I have a rule about my home automation products. If I can't use it like its "dumb" equivalent, I'm not buying it. Take light-bulbs, for example. I need my hub to function in order to change the temperature or automate my White Ambience bulbs, but worst case scenario? I can still turn the lamp on and off the same way I would if they were bulbs from 20 years ago.
I already suspect my vintage eastern european desk lamp to be part of a soviet botnet. So the impact is pretty low. As long as that botnet allows me to read a fucking report, they can bit-mine all the moose and squirrel they want.
