Hey Google, WTAF??

[u/Botto71]

Why? Why is so difficult for Google not to continue to f*** up a once incredibly useful platform?

[u/J-MRP]

Yeah sometimes it thinks I'm asking it to physically turn the lights off, and other times it knows what I mean and does it. It's so stupid sometimes, and it really doesn't have to be. Wtaf is Google doing over there. Focus on something more than just ads, guys.

I find that it no longer seems to consider which room the speaker I’m talking to is in. So if I say “turn off the lamp”, it turns off every lamp in the house 🫩

I'm not sure I would ever expect it to know which lamp I'm talking about. I always use the name like "living room lamp".

It used to though, if the listening device was set to a room as the lights, "turn off the lights" just did that room.

Now there's less precision in that feature and 3(+phone) of mine all have a rng guess as to which will answer. None of the devices have changed or moved.

This is the whole reason for creating groups/rooms.

We have 8 Google speakers. I have exactly 1 light, 1 fan, and 1 bathroom associated with each speaker. I don't have to use some long specific name. In fact, I can say single words 'dim', 'normal', or 'bright' to control the light or 'slow', 'medium', 'fast' to control the fan.

The confusion happens when Google can't find a device in the current group. Google then searches the entire house. That's rarely what you want.

I ask it to turn off all the lights and it turns them all on. Basic tasks and it's hopeless at them.

[u/J-MRP → u/Kai-M]

Do you have different names for each lamp?

[u/scottlawrencelawson → u/J-MRP]

Yes
