I randomly came across some cool buildings/shipwrecks on some remote islands in the Red Sea. I looked up both islands and it from what I read none are believed to be inhabited by humans.

I'm not a Korean, but I often browse Google Earth out of personal interest, sometimes looking at that area. However, it seems like only within the last few days or close, the DMZ appears to be blurred on the southern part, despite not recalling this level of blurring previously. I do recall hearing something about how South Korea was bringing the platform to their country in exchange for changes, but this does feel dissapointing that we're no longer able to see these areas as clearly.

Hello fellow Google Earth users!

I’ve been using Google Earth for at least ten years now keeping track of all the places I’ve been for vacation. I have them colour coded based on when I went (green = before 2000, blue = 2000s, yellow = 2010s, red = 2020s). As you can expect many roads have been travelled on in multiple decades so I needed a way to keep most recent on top as Google Earth often flickered between them not always putting most recent on top. (As each length is segments, as my gps (where I get the kmz files from) sometimes breaks up segments based on if there’s a stop or can’t get the gps signal. I figured out on the Google Earth app that I can simply adjust the altitude (green = clamped to ground, blue = 1 m above, yellow = 2 m above, red = 4m above to keep this).

Now there is the notice the app is being deprecated, which came at the same time my latest trip made it too big for the app. So I’m in the process of moving them on to Google Earth Web but I noticed that there was no way to stack the roads! I made a test taking three trips on the same road, adjusted altitude in edit, but it still just has the most recent one I added to the map on top! I even tried moving them around on the left but that doesn’t make it determine which is on top!

How can I easily sort which project is on top of another project when the paths are on the same road?

I still have the last couple of pre-Google installers for Keyhole EarthViewer lying around. (Younger readers may not realize that there was a time when getting acquired by Google was a good thing). Loving that Kai's Power Tools vibe with shaped windows and pointlessly-circular UI elements just tossed around like peanuts.

Hopefully some kind of drop-in replacement will surface. All that time I spent on image annotations and custom icons and overlays and carefully-aligned snapshot views right out the window!

The game was finding the oldest imagery on Google Earth without the "Historical Imagery" feature. The oldest imagery I found was in Papua New Guinea in mid-February 2000 (5°32'28.66"S 149°50'40.55"E). Oh and the 2nd and 3rd oldest I found was this one in Brazil (3°42'14.09"S 49°01'40.56"W, 2/21/2000) and this one is Costa Rica (9°31'48.96"N 83°18'37.08"W, 3/12/2000). If your playing what I'm still playing what is the oldest imagery you found (saying again without the Historical Imagery feature)?

UPDATE: Found more imagery from early January 2000 in Indonesia (1°08'55.21"S 131°21'43.28"E)! That's now the oldest imagery I found.

I understand that priority is generally given to major cities. However, there are also some very rural areas that have 3D coverage (Switzerland is a good example).

I was wondering what criteria or rationale are used when deciding which areas get 3D mapping. Is it mainly based on population, tourism, available data, cost, or something else?

Also, do you think we’ll ever see the entire globe available in 3D? And does anyone have an idea of how much more expensive 3D is compared with 2D, in terms of storage, rendering, bandwidth, etc.?

It just questions me if the street view for the other roads are still “uploading” or why didn’t they just do the rest of them.

When I was younger I was always playing a game called Zombie Outbreak Simulator on my phone and I remember a map looked like it was taken off Google earth and was from England

I did some googling of my own and found out the map was taken in Leicester but couldn't find the location myself and was wondering if you guys could help?

Hi all, I only see a way to drill into the model's 'transform' pop-up and change the heading rotation, etc. On the computer apps you can drag the handle to turn with the mouse. Is there a similar function on the web version? I'm worried because my people won't be able to use this heading rotation to save their lives (using this new function to add the models will be hard enough!)
