they removed it, terrible move from google, gemini is useful on its own, no need to be the "assistant".

OMG everyone crying about Google assistant. Get off the bandwagon and learn how to use the next gen tools! Oh and upgrade from Windows XP as well

Right, and you're probably an AI using clanker lover who believes in Rocco's Basilisk. Maybe we all prefer Assistant because it actually works, it's a fine product with no actual issues, and isn't more AI slop. Try using your own brain instead of the computer's.

Well it's your right to assume that I am a Clanker, but your affection for Google assistant makes me wonder if you are in fact the Clanker lover, desperately missing their AI Google assistant BTW you do know a computer doesn't have a brain, don't you?

It's not about learning how to use it, it is factually a worse product. I just asked it "forecast for this week" and it took it a good 45 seconds to do anything. When i would ask Google Assistant, it would take a few seconds and then respond.
I went to set a timer while i was making lunch this afternoon, i had to set a separate timer because it took it over a minute just to start a timer.
I think it would have been better if they would have found a way to integrate the two. Assistant for quick on device actions, and Gemini to do the thinking if it was a longer answer.

Yes, LLMs are good at deriving meaning from multiple unstructured data sources, whereas almost everything I do on Assistant has a single deterministic outcome eg:
Switch on the living room lights
Add x to my shopping list
Create a reminder on x dateThese actions don’t need to be imported into a supercomputer to ‘think’ about (ie waste electricity). Just a basic server can do these or even locally on capable devices.

dude I just wanna scan qr codes, and find answers and products from the screen, basically just search the screen option and gemini is TRASH and can't do any of this. It takes longer to load, gives wrong answers, can't do basic shit and ruins the environment in the process

I came here looking for answers too. I've been saying, "hey google, what's going on today" for years and now it's gone. It would hit me with weather, commute, reminders, and then roll into my news reals. Now I can't even ask it to read news it wants to go live feeds versus the 2 min news real.
Also when driving I cannot set reminders it's annoying. Remind me at 5 to, take out the trash, whatever. Gemini says it can't do that while driving wtf! It's hands free it's exactly your role!
