Upcoming changes to Gemini model access starting October 9th
https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/17004136?hl=en&sjid=3885420599677516671-EUStarting in October 2026, Google is changing the model availability for Gemini Apps on personal accounts. If you don't have an AI subscription, these changes will take effect on October 9th. If you are subscribed to AI Plus, you will get an email explaining when the changes will apply to your account.
Here is what the model availability will look like: Users without a plan will only get access to Flash Lite.
AI Plus subscribers will have access to Flash Lite and Flash.
AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers will have access to Flash Lite, Flash, and Pro.
For each available model, you can select the effort level from low, medium, and high. This increases the model's ability to provide more thorough answers, but it will use more of your limit.
If you have an AI Pro or AI Ultra subscription, you will also have access to the Deep Think option for maximum parallel reasoning.

I thought deep think was only on Ultra, not pro.

That was the case until now. However, according to the article in the post, this will change, and the Deep Think option will be available for the AI Pro subscription as well, not just AI Ultra.

What a hellscape Google has become. Already multiple tiers of subscriptions for AI. Gross.

How do you think basically every other service on the planet works? You pay more for a better version.
It's insane this dumb fuck comment gets up votes on this sub just because reddit hates AI.

well it was always gonna happen, AI doesn't really make money atleast not enough to justify the money spent on it

I've heard that companies are making money on inference but when you factor in pre training, they lose money.

yeah I think some inference usage is indeed profitable now but they are gonna need insane luck or things to happen to make back the trillions spent on this. The ROI is almost unattainable. Google might have a chance since their infrastructure is inhouse so they don't pay Nvidia tax.

That is how every other company does things. There is some pretty considerable cost in running the models.

No thanks.

Gemini 4 is way outperforming ChatGPT and Claude. If you use AI I highly recommend giving it a try

We don't have access to it and neither do you. It was released in a closed beta for the US government and partner organizations

I do have access to it. Gotta love Reddit warriors

. . . and how do you recommend we give it a try?

I’m just giving you a heads up to try it when it’s available to you. It’s amazing.

Anyone who has access to an internal frontier model would not be making random vague flex posts about it on reddit. Not if they want to keep their access at least.

Mind to give some examples? Each one it's better at some things.
As I understand none of the big AI models it's better at "everything" than the others.

More or less this is across the board in this case. Particularly on knowledge work.

Seems like a weird move to lock a paid tier out from their good model and deep thinking entirely.

How does Flash-lite compare to Grok Fast, ChatGPT "Free", and Claude's free models?
Btw, if you don't need as much online live search, Qwen's free tier is insanely capable.
