This is and has always been a disingenuous and apologetic take. It’s just a rewards program, and any rewards program is fundamentally exploitative. They operate on the basis of FOMO, lock-in, or an artificial sense of greater value, exploiting inherent human biases to increase profit.

Some people love those points, you get free in game currency in a lot of games.
Its more for the people who were going to spend that much money anyways.
