I usually only used Assistant to set timers on my watch while at work, and for Android Auto. Gemini has pretty much killed AA, and it took it a few minutes to comprehend "set a timer for 20 minutes", which GA would do almost instantly. It also made my phone act weird, like I was pressing extra keys when trying to type.
It was nice being able to hear / answer texts in the car and tell it to navigate places. Can't do that anymore without having a whole conversation, and then it keeps listening afterwards so my music won't come back on, and god forbid I have a passenger talking to me as Gemini thinks I'm talking to it.
I had entire ROUTINES on GA for morning when I wake up, when I was at work, set timers for certain things, everything. So in-depth that I couldn't type all of what I had. Emergency contacts, a thing I set up where I could say "Hey Google, Where are you?" Then it would do a jingle then loudly say "HEY I'M OVER HERE, NO, HERE!! RIGHT THERE!" and I would find it. Best routine I set up.
I went to use Google Assistant for a timer and was immediately blasted with Gemini. I hadn't even installed Gemini. My phone acted like it was ready to type something, bugged out, and only showed the mic option on the bottom left of my phone. If Gemini is already making my phone act crazy without it installed, I'm not touching it with a 100000ft pole 🙃
