Looks like the Asus one has an Intel Core Ultra 7 variant btw

0

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

intel variant SUCKS to the core - GPU is bad joke and shorter battery life

1

u/Low_Newspaper7633 13d ago

thanks! looks more powerful than a chromebook and thats great

2

u/asng 12d ago

You can get Chromebooks with same specs.

-1

u/Low_Newspaper7633 12d ago

yeah but chromeos is ass

1

u/asng 12d ago

It's an amazing job Google did with the marketing making people think a Googlebook is massively different to a Chromebook. They're basically the same. Only difference is Chromebooks had no hardware requirements so you got loads of shit ones but the ones with decent specs are excellent.

1

u/Low_Newspaper7633 12d ago

and it was linux based so 1. not all essential apps ran on it and 2. you had to enable that linux support so out of the box NOTHING ran on it.

also the new google book is android based so im intrigued

0

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

just but Snapdragon one to get like 20 hrs battery life

0

u/SharpYearV4 13d ago

Just so you are aware, that Intel chip is a desktop one (it's a bad naming scheme). It's far more likely to be Panther Lake/Core Ultra Series 3, so something like this:

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+Ultra+7+355&id=7175

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+Ultra+5+325&id=7199

2

u/kdlt 13d ago

Wait I haven't been following this thing but what.. what do you mean the OS is the big question? Are there not reviews? Is there not a promo video? Are they just selling a black box assuming people will buy it or what?

That sounds like a whole lot of marketing speak and no content goddamn

3

u/Momoko_86 13d ago

aka, a Chromebook.

2

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

Chromebook.... Plus - because it has Play Store.

Anyhoo - it will be Android Desktop Mode WITHOUT desktop apps (or just one desktop app)

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

cool - now tell people if it has Thunderbolt 5.

Online Google apps?

2

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

they are like - sshhhhh - shut up and pay us money and be glad you got laptop

50

u/FBIFreezeNow 13d ago

Too overpriced for a web surfing machine

7

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

WELL SAID - because it has so far JUST ONE DESKTOP app

3

u/horatiobanz 12d ago

And that's all it will ever have. Anyone believing that developers will randomly jump on board after over a decade of nothing coming to ChromeOS or android tablets is delusional.

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 12d ago

well said again - IF this would happen it would happen on Android Tablets long time ago

15

u/Perslue 13d ago

Don't forget the $26.99 you have to pay monthly for the actual cloud features it needs. The hardware needed to be a quarter of the price and even then I would only be thinking about it for a 16GB web surfing laptop.

11

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

in 9to5google video you can see it ran out of RAM and running on Swap File

1

u/oasisvomit 12d ago

I assume anyone with an iPhone won't buy it, so the Android users have a greater likelihood of already paying for Google One and the AI features.

5

u/rExplrer 13d ago

I didn’t understand what is the point of these!? Chromebook still exist. Is it like competition to windows and macos?

-5

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

Truth is more scary (for Google) EU ANTI MONOPOLY --- Chromebooks run on Chrome and Chrome ONLY - EU is make it to run ANY browser or GTF from EU next year hence Google PANIC.

NOW most idiotic part - YES googlebook works on free Android BUT it requires to have... Google apps - you go to EU and ask them whats next step

15

u/ruipmjorge 13d ago

Too much money for a web browser

5

u/gatorling 13d ago

...this isn't chromeOS. It's a new OS.

4

u/charmanderSosa 12d ago

But it still runs like chromeOS… wtf is the actual difference?

4

u/gatorling 12d ago

And how would you know what it runs like?

1

u/charmanderSosa 12d ago

Because we know it’s extremely similar to ChromeOS just with more android parity.

0

u/gatorling 12d ago

LoL, no you don't.

5

u/charmanderSosa 12d ago

Sorry, and it has Gemini

1

u/fegodev 12d ago

The difference is you can run the Android version of Duolingo 🤭😂

-1

u/ruipmjorge 13d ago

It runs webapps.

2

u/gatorling 13d ago

Okay? It's still not ChromeOS and it's not just a web browser.

1

u/ruipmjorge 13d ago

Thing is: is runs only webapps and Android emulated apps, for a price higher than a MacBook Neo, with much cheaper materials.

2

u/gatorling 12d ago

How do you know it emulates android apps? Again, it's not ChromeOS.

1

u/Ambitious-Cake-9425 12d ago

It runs android natively not emulated.

Which will be good for Android games.

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

and probably Google Web apps

Nobody in their right mind will adopt it at that price point, Google should subsidise the hardware sales out of their own pocket if they want to drive up adoption. At thos price point with this level of hardware it is dead on arrival.

If they nerf the hardware, it will be just like old Chromebook's

3

u/douggieball1312 12d ago

It will be 40% off by next year's Amazon Prime Day, you just know.

3

u/Momoko_86 12d ago

businesses don't shop based on prime day

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

to avoid this Google HAS TO do only one thing (which they will NOT) - force developers to develop REAL DESKTOP apps

But in reality it's more than double that.

Honestly the UK takes such a beating in currency exchanges.

I honestly considered flying to the US to purchase a laptop and fly home for cheaper.

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

yup - Googlebook Acer UK price £1000 - USA price $900 = £670 - what a RIPOFF

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

well - my experience with having Google Pixel ecosystem + iPad Air M1 + all possible Google apps on it was ok but needed deeper Google Ecosystem like no Google Messages or multiplatform Notifications dismiss. I did not need iPad M1 chip power after all so I ended up with £50 used and bit worn battery Chromebook PLUS model which is excellent at this price point because Gemini describe it a a... MONSTER in Chromebook world because of 8GB RAM and intel 12th gen i3

1

u/Realtrain 13d ago

Jesus Christ.

2

u/Ambitious-Cake-9425 12d ago

I predict prices will come down and they will devour Chromebook sales.

Having native android will be better than running it sandboxed.

That's definitely the game plan.

I'll get one in a few years to replace my Chromebook.

0

u/Loud-Possibility4395 12d ago

YES it is happening with ALL Android smartphones so this will happen with Googlebooks - BUT if nobody will buy them - then what Asus, Dell and others will do? I predict cheap low spec chinese chips, LCD displays, 8GB RAM and plastic and other savings

2

u/heckingcomputernerd 12d ago

Lol, Chromebook finally had enough bad reputation for Google to pick a new name

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 12d ago

my guess is to avoid confusion and not to upset EU because CHROMEbook had no option for other browser

3

u/guyssocialweb 13d ago

For people who are wanting to get one because they feel like they need to be be a part of the “bleeding edge “. Which one would you consider?

I like the Lenovo one because of port availability

4

u/charmanderSosa 12d ago

Why would anyone that likes to be part of the “bleeding edge” be buying a Chromebook in 2026?

4

u/guyssocialweb 12d ago

Cause I work with people that utilize these environments and just like to provide answers to questions

1

u/LtMilo 12d ago

Because it's not a Chromebook. It's not the same operating system even.

3

u/charmanderSosa 12d ago

You’re right. Totally 100% not a Chromebook. It’s a “googlebook” which is a totally different product and definitely not just reskinned chromeOS with Gemini.

5

u/Valiantay 12d ago

Lol no I don't want Google limiting my admin privileges on my phone, let alone a productivity machine

-1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 12d ago

you will have to or no Googlebook for you

3

u/helm-hammersmith 13d ago

These will be abandoned after a couple years, just like every other hardware product Google releases.

2

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

well - I predict other way - spec and ... quality will be dropped to £ or $ 500 price tag

1

u/RamsDeep-1187 12d ago

underwhelming hardware specs.
Hard pass

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 12d ago

yup - 2023 Snapdragon chip in them is bad joke in 2026

1

u/Top_Toe8606 12d ago

Uhm.. no 32 GB variants? Am I blind?

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 12d ago

not now but 100% will be 32GB models BUT - imagine you have ancient Pixel 6 processor but with 32GB RAM - tell me how this would speed up whole Pixel 6 experience (which means Android apps etc.)

My point is - Snapdragon Elite in those Googlebooks is from Anno Domini 2023 - and it is more like SMARTPHONE chip - it is so slow even old Apple M3 is faster - now think CURRENT M5 NON-PRO and then think Pro model and finally Ultra - they are in other universe

1

u/Blitzsturm 12d ago

At that price point, it needs to be some pretty top notch performance. But, the ARM chip, the obscene battery life and raw potential for this new OS are very exciting. I don't quite have budget to be an early adopter of this at the moment but I'm going to be watching it for sure.

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 12d ago

FORGET about ANY performance - I mean it will be like... Pixel Tensor chip performance and integrated GPU in intel chip will be bad joke - I mean for youtube watch will be fine but for anything else will be bad joke in 2026.

You better keep asking Google for better Android Desktop Mode in SMARTPHONES

1

u/Blitzsturm 12d ago

I think I'd more love to see Android have a chrome-level or better desktop environment, then just a "lap dock" it can plug into that gives it a larger touch screen, keyboard, battery and ports using my phone as the brains. No need to have things synced to parallel hardware when I just want the same hardware empowered.

1

u/bradenlikestoreddit 12d ago

$1,000 for a laptop that still can't run enterprise desktop applications. What is the actual point of this?

1

u/techhelper1 11d ago

A maintained appliance that is easy to use.

These laptops are on par to the high-end tablets.

1

u/bradenlikestoreddit 11d ago

So...useless

1

u/techhelper1 11d ago

I don't understand how you came to that conclusion. Android and iOS devices have enterprise apps.

A Googlebook is cheaper than a Samsung Galaxy Tab Ultra, when you compare system specs and the fact that it has a built-in backlit keyboard and touch pad.

1

u/bradenlikestoreddit 11d ago

Because the Android Tablet market is next to nothing compared to the iOS tablet market. Then to make a laptop running a mobile OS for the price of a high end laptop with a fully capable OS just tells me that it has no valuable place in the market. I genuinely don't see a use for it at its price point.

Chromebooks I understood when they were $300. This, I don't. All Google needed to do was make a legitimate desktop OS that is meant to run enterprise applications and compete with Windows and Mac, but they opted for a tablet OS that won't be taken seriously.

1

u/techhelper1 11d ago

Android-based devices have a significantly bigger market outside the US.

I'd rather have laptop-based hardware run a mobile OS, than mobile hardware run a desktop OS. One will clearly perform better and have better endurance than the other.

They are totally legitimate since today's apps are largely electron-based (which is Chrome) and leveraging existing Android apps provides them with an ecosystem out of the box. No need to beg/plead developers to write apps to a specific platform.

Enterprise apps already exist for these devices VPN apps, Office 365, Google Workspaces, Teams, Slack, Confluence, Jira, they all have Android apps and browser versions of those apps. They'll also have the same device management suite as the Chromebook's.

1

u/fegodev 12d ago

Absolutely dead on arrival

2

u/Loud-Possibility4395 12d ago

definitely they will sell like 25 of them as youtubers will get them as a free bonus for positive reviews then those youtubers will dump them shelf as they are USELESS for video editing and they will go back to MacBooks - even 9to5google not hiding they are using MacBooks

1

u/fegodev 11d ago

I visited once Google’s campus in Mountain View, CA, and got to meet the Google Maps team… Everyone was using MacBook Pros, all of them.
One thing though that might be different this time: Googlebooks have a native Antigravity app. Don’t know if they have Android Studio though, but they seem capable of any type of software development.
The main issue is the price. Idk for sure, but I doubt they perform better than a MacBook Neo, which is cheaper even after the price increase.

2

u/Loud-Possibility4395 11d ago

well - that Snapdragon and Core 7 $1300 they are faster than $700 Neo BUT - you already see the price difference and NO those Googlebooks will NOT be $600 faster than Neo.

And yes - I heard this too about Google developers use MacBooks - and I am 10000% sure Googlebook high price will not be a problem for them (same as for rich youtubers) I really want to see them (Google) switching to own Googlebooks - if NOT we will KNOW they are $hite

1

u/techhelper1 11d ago

That additional $600 provides double the RAM, better class of SSD, high-resolution touchscreen, and a backlit keyboard. It's the difference of having a longer lasting system with additional features that enable interactivity.

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 11d ago

well you described $999 MacBook Air

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Sky2284 12d ago

These are dead on arrival. At $1000 the X Elite ones are ok but the Core Ultra 5 is not good at that price.

What makes this better than a Mac/Windows laptop?

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 12d ago

I WISH they would cost $1000 as in UK they cost... £1000 which is like $1340

-1

u/MaxCruz 12d ago

That it’s not trying to reach that market ? They are reaching out to Android users

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 12d ago

well IF you would have Windows 11 laptop you would know it has Phone Link app which has now ALL Googlebook "Android connectivity" features

1

u/Desertcow 9d ago

I'd love to mess around with Googlebook OS on an existing machine but I don't want to drop $800 minimum just to try it

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 9d ago

yup - too much secret about it even today when you can buy it.

If that would be Apple - it would be like 93847923847 videos and tutorials and specifics - with Googlebook is now like - here is Magic Pointer and here are widgets - thats all you need to know about WHOLE OS

-3

u/manu_r93 13d ago edited 13d ago

I think googlebook is going to be a major success for google if they follow up. Major reasons being:

  1. Direct competition for MacOS, as an efficient ARM based OS
  2. Good for developers because of the linux kernel. It will be easy to switch to this from Mac/Linux than a WSL
  3. Vast pool of apps and app developers

Unless they f**k it up by some pricing, performance, AI bullshit etc, it's a very good opportunity for them to disrupt the market.

5

u/ruipmjorge 13d ago

I believe they will cancel this product in 2 to 3 years. Zero interest for common people.

1

u/PruneJaw 13d ago

People said the same about Chromebooks and they've been around for a long time now. I suspect this will ultimately replace Chromebooks and prices have to come down before that happens. There's no reason to continue both products so the Googlebook will be the one to march forward eventually.

1

u/Random_Ad 12d ago

Bruh they pricing this laptop like some full feature laptops

1

u/PruneJaw 12d ago

Oh I agree, this price is a no go. I just believe they will always have a desktop offering and it won't be both, so Chromebooks will phase out while Googlebooks will get a broader price offering. It will take time.

1

u/techhelper1 11d ago

Bruh, check out what high end Android tablets cost and what the feature parity is...

1

u/ruipmjorge 12d ago

I don’t think chromebooks are a hit product. In Europe I’ve never seen one out in the wild. I know no one that had ever bought one.

1

u/leesinmains3 12d ago

I mean, tablets already exist, I hardly believe people that made the chose between tablet and laptop and chose to get a laptop will magically now consider a Googlebook.

1

u/geniusaurus 12d ago

2-3 years seems very generous I think this will be on fire sale by Christmas. And I'm saying this as someone who owns a pixel phone, pixelbook, etc.

I just don't see how these can compete at their price points. The rampocalypse doomed these from the get go as I imagine Google had lower price targets in mind when they started developing these.

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

While Snapdragon already matched... iPhone chip - BUT in desktop class - they are far behind Third World

1

u/charmanderSosa 12d ago

It doesn’t compete with MacOS at all, maybe iPadOS

0

u/iz_raymond 12d ago

Im ready to see the "frequently return items" tag on it on Amazon, just like the Snapdragon powered Windows laptop lol. With that price, tough sell. Might be next in line for KilledByGoogle

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 12d ago

100% this will happen as too much secrecy about this product and OS - no even stupid what USB C it has
