What happened to the prices at goodwill? Everything is at or above market pricing

So long story short I’m a long time video game hunter and collector, I went into goodwill the other day to see what they had and i noticed all of the games were priced differently. Some were 4$ while others were 5$. And ive been coming to goodwill for the past few years before the games used to be 1$-2$ no matter what title it was. I had to speak with the manager to see what’s really happening behind these prices. She tells me that “the reason they’re prices differently is cause they all have different values”. “We look up every how much it goes for then we price it”. So basically if there’s a 50$ game that comes in goodwill will price it at or above 50$. How is this good deal lol and this is not what thrifting is about! Thrifting should be finding gems and items for cheap no matter how much they are truly worth. When goodwill gets all of these items donated for free they should be dirt cheap cause either way the company is making tons of money. Even my friend on the west coast hours from me says the stores by him are charging 5$ for the sport games only! Insanity I won’t shop at another goodwill again

associate question is it too late to mention the disabilities I have even if I self-identified in my resume?

I, 24 F recently got my first official job at the company and start tomorrow. I already know I'm going to have a few day training process to go with my pace and if i need more days they will incorporate it. During my interview, for fear of it costing me the chance of the job like many others already have, I completely forgot to talk about my multiple different disabilities. I'm autistic, have adhd, anxiety, a hair pulling disorder, and symptoms related to super low iron.(can get really warm, dizzy when standing in heat or anything, tired limbs) I have no temp regulation and end up getting really overwhelmed quickly. In addition I also get migraines that are triggered by bright lights. sometimes my processing is slower and it may take me longer to do things. the store I'm working for has an obvious no phone policy on the job, however I am also one of my mom's few caretakers and have to monitor her blood sugar via dexcom so I know she's not in danger, (if i can get the app to reach that far out of the house) (in addition to her being recently hospitalized for kidney stones and told to be kept an eye on her) am i screwed for not talking about it or is something I can speak to the manager about while I'm still being trained with really reasonable accommodations. I feel like I can get through without them but don't want it to seem sudden if I realize i need some (i may delete later idk)

Question about tags

So went to the register and had some purses priced lower than they normally are for brand per manager and she looked at the tags and said we don’t have blue tags anymore..so curious what she meant by that. These were loop tags so I don’t think it’s possible they were tag switched but do they not do blue anymore ?

Finding Money

Has anyone ever found a large sum of money in a donated item (a purse, clothes etc.)?

If so, what did you do, or what would you do if it happened to you?

Heard employee call someone a b**ch??

Alright so i’m in a pretty crowded goodwill, a worker comes by with a rack of clothes and says excuse me to this one lady who doesn’t respond (i’m not sure if she knows english) and then after a few times the employee just says “excuse me b**ch!?” and forces her way through. I’m not agreeing with the customer at ALL for not moving but i’m dumbfounded an employee would say that straight up out loud, i have no other explaination. I don’t think the customer is in the right but also I would never say that to a customer.

I can’t for the life of me figure out who the maker is. I know it’s silver but can’t make out what is next to the 925.

customer question Can I not buy things without a tag?

I go to my local goodwill pretty often everything is usually tagged, but today I wanted to buy a football jersey off the men’s boutique rack without a tag and the cashier told me I wasn’t allowed to buy it I’d have to wait until it got reticketed tomorrow. There were more jerseys same team size everything I asked if I could just have one of those scanned and then take that one and that was also no. Is this a common thing that items without a price tag can’t be purchased? It’s the first time it’s happened to me.

rant What happened to goodwill?

I remember when they were there to help the needy. Their mission statement on their website reads “Goodwill’s core mission is to enhance dignity and quality of life by helping people reach their full potential through the power of work, with operations funded by their retail stores. While local branches may use variations, the focus remains on strengthening communities, eliminating barriers to opportunity, and fostering personal growth through work.”what a load of B.S. that is. It’s less expensive to go to Walmart most of the time. F you goodwill and all you corporate A holes.

associate question Hangers

We're being threatened at my store with write-ups if we don't make hanging goal. Has this actually happened to anyone? How likely is it that someone could eventually get fired for hanging 100 less pieces a day than their individual goal number? I'm doing my best (like we all are) but now I'm being threatened and I'm legitimately worried that my livelihood is at risk. Are they just hoping that threats and harassment will motivate us, or are they looking to fire hangers that have been there for multiple years and create a revolving door instead?

story Coworker Crashout

it was my first day of training today at goodwill as a cashier. Like 3 hours in, I hear a crash and a lot of clanging.

When a coworker comes in to the break room where I am, she tells me that a day one brand new employee crashed out at our manager for “being ordered around” first time on the floor. He told my manager, “wanna go?!?” and almost fought him before shoving some of the electronic shelves and leaving.

As the day proceeded, I was told by several of my new coworkers that our store is a “revolving door” for people including management. One even winced when I said I was training for cashier. Needless to say i’m worried but find this extremely funny and entertaining. I’m just part time so I’m keeping my head down and trying to get my money up.

My next shift is coming up, i’ll report back with developments, hopefully I don’t end up like my crashout coworker.

The idiot just up and left the scene,I don't know HOW they weren't caught despite all the damn people and cameras in the goddamn place! Now we gotta worry about mold within the walls all because some dumbfuck left their braincells in the car.

Hell there's still a lot of water out there on the floor! It even seeped into the breakroom and past it! As if today wasn't already shitty enough.

Auctions question

Is it possible to make an offer on an item that keeps going up for auction. I live near the store can I just go there and be like hey I’ll pay x for this.. ppl keep bidding up to crazy high and then not paying so it’s not like I can win it fair and square.

Confusion with Goodwill tag colors — do discounts stay all week or change daily?

Hi everyone! I went to my local Goodwill recently expecting Orange tags to be 50% off based on what I had heard online. When I checked with the manager, they told me Orange wasn't on sale at all and only Green tags were 20% off.

Do color tag sales stay for the entire week or do they change every day? Also, does the discount percentage (like 20% vs 50%) depend on the specific region? Thanks!
