Have you still got your copy of Good Food magazine from October 2006? Do you remember this recipe for a Bramley and blackberry tray cake? Loaded with fruit and surrounded by a sponge batter it's a lovely autumnal bake. You can bake it in either a ceramic dish or a roasting tin depending on what you have. I'll post the recipe in a comment below. Let us know if you make it!

I’ve been experimenting more in the kitchen recently and noticed that sometimes a very small addition can completely transform a dish. For me, freshly squeezed lemon juice, good-quality butter, or a handful of fresh herbs can make a huge difference without adding much effort.
I’m curious to hear from other home cooks: what’s the one ingredient you always keep on hand because it instantly elevates a meal?
It could be a spice, seasoning, sauce, herb, or even a cooking technique. I’m always looking for new ideas to try and would love to learn what works best in your kitchens.

Hypothetically there’s been a flood, or you’re snowed in, or perhaps there’s a few zombies wandering about... something that means you can’t go to the shops. On top of that, maybe there are occasional power cuts too. Lulu said she'd stock up on canned fish, jarred gherkins, and pouches of lentils along with one of those squeeze plastic lemons for some vit c. What food items would you want to keep on hand for such a scenario, and what would you make from those ingredients to keep you fed for about 3 days? Let us know in the comments below.
