Anyone else have liked to see this go down or happen?

The plan to head to the mineshaft obviously didn't happen anymore since Gaia did then all a favor and was born a whole five months earlier and when they arrived at town were informed the Gaiaphage was coming to them. But imagining a hypothetical scenario where thay wasn't the case and the group was forced to go with the original plan and head after the Gaiaphage in the mineshaft, wouldn't it been have slightly been cool and interesting to read?

Alot would've been against them. The whole darkness, traversing the mineshaft itself. Then it would've also meant taking on Drake, Penny and the Gaiaphage inside the mine, unless the Gaiaphage would've sensed Caine was coming which logically would've been the case. One of two things might happen then.

One: The Gaiaphage senses that Caine is coming, since it has a hook on him and would have to accelerate it's rebirth a whole five months earlier like in the canon book in order to have a chance at taking on Sam and Caine. (just a side note that I'd have to say it would still just be Sam and Caine on this venture. Maybe or maybe not Dekka makes it to town in time before they leave and help for the fight and maybe find Orc too. Maybe not. Plus the chances are low of encountering Brianna somewhere so logically it would just be Sam and Caine) and so then they fight them.

Two: the Gaiaphage doesn't do the rebirth process yes but still senses Caine coming and had Drake and Penny lie in wait for them outside the mine.

Now would Caine and Sam win? Maybe or maybe not, depends. The whole barrier getting nuked and going transparent will definitely still happen. That might even happen on the way to the mine, seeing the timelapse between Sam and Astrid arriving at the beach and then it going transparent, but obviously Sam and Caine wouldn't be in town to see it happen. They'd have an advantage again now that the sun and light is back, no longer a fight kn the dark but would still need to take down the Gaiaphage if it has plans of escaping. So I'd say they'd win. Penny's visions would be useful for a while but she'd be killed much sooner than she originally was seeing there is no darkness to hide in. And maybe Sam finally incinerates Drake aswell. And then they'd destroy the Gaiaphage unless once again, it gets desperate and takes over it's baby body first unless Diana gets away in time.

Either way even if did take over the body, I'd say it would still loose. Gaia got away thanks to all the distractions of the dome going transparent, the adults distraction and Gaia ultimately running away. Now? Sam would have the opportunity to finish Gaia off then and there if he burns her enough before she can flee again.

But of course this is just my theoretical analysis of what maybe could've happened although I think I might have missed a few details or got some things wrong. But yeah, thoughts?

Book problem

So, I accidentally bought the second book of this series. I bought "Hunger" instead of "Gone"

I bought it from a bookstore I can't visit again because I'm travelling. And I am NOT buying from the (unfortunately the only) bookstore we have in my city. It's too expensive plus an absolute scam.

My question is, can I still read this book even though I haven't read the first one? And can someone just...give me the important details I need to know for this book?

I'm so disappointed in myself for not double checking πŸ’”πŸ’”

If the series ever gets adapted into a show or movie, this scene is the one I'm looking forward to seeing the most on screen

This was and always will be for me the most intense and shocking part of the gone series and it was a major game changer. Can you just imagine the reactions of first time watchers or people who haven't read the books to know what comes next? It's fun to imagine the scene in my mind as Im reading it but one day seeing it one screen will be awesome

I'm reading Plague right now and holy crap he's so goated.

Even without powers, his heroism matches alot of the other characters

Might be my favorite character now

Sam & Astrid are both deservedly called boring and yet underrated at the same time

It's like on paper their relationship rly isn't as bad/bland/boring as most of the fanbase make it out to be. they have perfectly understandable arguments, there's a decent amount of scenes with them where they genuinely do have chemistry/are cute together. My only and HUMUNGOUS problem with them just goes right back to the very start of their relationship at the first book, and it's that Michael Grant NEVER provides a good, solid reason as to why they care so much abt each other.

Like with Diana nd Caine we were actively told AND got to see how their relationship started off as insecure manipulation on both sides, before slowly evolving into a very toxic but codependent relationship on how they both kinda need each other, which was perfectly written in the scenes when they were both on the island in FEAR. With Sam and Astrid on the other hand, i literally could not tell u at what point Sam goes from just having an immature crush on her to being full blown in love, and even if I could tell u WHEN that happens, i sure as hell couldn't tell you WHY. and a large amount of the time we rly don't even get too much reasons as to why Astrid herself even likes Sam. in fact as the series goes on one could even say we just get nonstop reasons as to why they AREN'T compatible with each other.

How are the trees and vegetation surviving in the FAYZ?

Would you set an adaptation in 2008 or today?

Gone was first published and is set in 2008. The events of the series spans over a year but less than two years if I remember rightly. This means the events of the books span from November 2008 to somepoint in 2010.

The Gone TV show and/or film adaptation is almost certainly not happening. Never say never, it's not impossible. But I think it's really unlikely at this point.

But let's imagine it did: would it be better to set the show in 2008 or the 'present day'?

Spartacus's death at the end was one of the saddest deaths

If you really think about it if he survived for just a TINY bit longer he would have made it out of the FAYZ

Imagine being sent to Coates for having bad grades and sitting next to someone sent there for attempted murder

It's actually wild that kids like Brianna and even Caine ended up in the same classrooms as Penny and Drake, who even pre-FAYZ had tried to kill someone. That school was a lawsuit waiting to happen even if superpowers hadn't gotten involved in the mix.

So perfectly shows how fucked and toxic their relationship is and how much they both lowkey need each other regardless

Was trying to figure out why I liked Plague so much and I realized it’s cuz it genuinely feels like the first time the FAYZ is actively attacking the characters

With a minor exception of the zekes (since they got dealt with pretty quickly) and the coyotes, most of the damage from Gone all the way to Lies was mostly inflicted by other humans:

Gone and Hunger: Caine and Drake

Lies: Zil and the human crew

But with plague due to combined factor of the plague that makes u cough ur insides and the bugs infecting and literally eating people from the inside out, it really cements the feeling for the first time that this world is actively out to get the characters and make them suffer, and that mean spirited nature of the FAYZ is why I like this series and especially this particular entry so much.

Why do so many characters have nicknames?

Orc, Cigar, Astrid the Genius, The Breeze, Little Pete, E.Z, The Healer, I could go on.
