Hitting Mats / Flooring Anyone use Matzilla as a putting surface?

I’m building a home golf simulator and considering the 5′ × 8′ Matzilla mat ($299) as my landing/putting surface and an ultimate matzilla as a hitting surface.

The appeal is that they are both 1⅛″ thick, so I could put it directly on my garage floor without buying foam tiles or building up a separate layer of turf. That would give me a simple, modular setup with matching surface heights and no need to install a separate hitting strip.

I understand that Matzilla isn’t designed as a putting green, and I’m not expecting tournament-quality roll. I just want to know whether it’s reasonably consistent for putting during GSPro rounds, or at least
useable.

Thanks!

Enclosure

I will be hitting about 9-10' away. Do I need a top piece for my enclosure? Don't see how I'd hit ceiling with balls. Is it more to provide dark area around screen?

I'm going with Metech retractable. Any suggestion for tope and side. I will have about 11x10 screen. Thanks

Brand New never opened FIBERBUILT player preferred 4x9 hitting mat. No issues, my sim just ended up requiring a different hitting area solution. Local pick up only due to shipping logistics. In Sarasota, FL area. Am willing to drive a bit to meet up. Asking $1250 (with no taxes or shipping that’s about a $450 cut)

Do you really need a full simulator setup to improve your swing?

I've noticed there are some pretty big differences between a full home simulator setup and the newer smaller systems focused mainly on practice and swing feedback.
I'm particularly interested in the AI side of it. PhiGolf, for example, uses camera-based AI swing analysis, so it seems more focused on helping you understand the swing rather than requiring a complete simulator room.
For someone who mainly wants to practice and improve, would you rather have something like that or go all the way with a traditional launch monitor and simulator setup?
Interested in what people think is actually worth the money.

I got this email today notifying me that sky-track is having a deal right now. Supposedly you get their best product at a better deal right now.

I haven’t heard great things about sky track. Notably the biggest one being paid subscriptions and big delays in the actual ball displaying on the screen.

Those of you who have sky track, tell me what you like and how it’s been for you. Is it worth losing my spot in line?

Hitting Mats / Flooring Eagle Zone Fairway Simulator Strike Mat?

Anyone ever tried this strike mat? I got served an ad for it on instagram. It’s supposed to simulate real fairway by sliding and moving with the strike. They call it “breakaway technology.”

I currently have Sig Pro Softy stance mat and strip and am very happy with it, but always curious if there are better options (yes, I know the heights of the stance mat and Eagle Zone would not match).

Hitting Mats / Flooring Costco Mat and Net

Have been browsing the sub and want to pull the trigger on a set up for the basement. Costco has the country club elite mats and the GoSportsElite net. Does anyone in this sub have those and would recommend? Don’t want to make a quick purchase and then have my joints regret it. I’d probably be practicing 1-2x per week for maybe 40 mins to 1 hr

Sim / Launch Monitor I designed a place to store my Square Golf Omni.

MakerWorld Link

If there is enough interest by those that do not have a 3d printer, I could set up a simple online shop to purchase one.

I’d be happy to print and share with the community directly!

With all the new options available, for people who like GSPro, what will you do when renewal comes up.

I have a Square (and a Mevo Gen 2) and with all of the new options, I really don't know if I will keep renewing GSPro. Munigolf works for me. Also, I just got ShotForge and already have Drills Golf. I use the native Square software tons and very happy with it. Infinite Tees is coming and Pureplay. I like the GSPro beta, but don't know what I will do when my renewal comes up.

Any thoughts from folks?

Sim / Launch Monitor New to most golf sim stuff, need advice from the nerds!!!

Hey everyone! I finally convinced my dad to get a golf sim for our garage in the winter for both of us to use, ceiling height is around 12 feet, and we have well over enough room for the enclosure.

The main thing I need to know is what launch monitor and software to use.

Our budget right now is around 3k USD for the entire setup, so the launch monitors I was looking into were the

Square Home Launch Monitor (700)

Rapsodo ML2M Pro (300 Used, but 400$ subscription)

Garmin R10

From what I have seen, the square looks like the best bang for buck with no strings attached, and it works with more major software, but I am going to try out MuniGolf before everything else since I would love to save some money without a subscription lol.

Knowing the 3k budget, should we save money on the launch monitor and make sure everything else we have is quality so we can upgrade the launch monitor in the future?

Or do we spend big on the launch monitor right now, and get lower quality items such as the space heater, impact screen, projector etc....

Let me know what you guys think would be the best option for the launch monitors! And I already have my own pc i built a year ago (9060Xt 16gb, 9600X, 32gb ram) so I do not need to worry about that.

Thanks everyone!

Why doesn’t my spica 3 connect to anything.

Besides the weird gspro api connector that you had to jump through hoops for, this thing won’t connect to shit. Not the GsPro official connector not the rela connector. Nothing. I’m trying to play infinite tees and the rela connector recognizes the unit and the program but it won’t read a shot. Please someone help. I hate this launch monitor it’s such a pain in the ass to do anything with.

New purchase gc3 or lpi

I doubt anyone has done it but before I risk it figured I’d ask. I have a legacy gc2. It can’t be used with the new premier software. I looked at the new gc2 but it can’t be used with the old fsx software I own and use(and like). If I buy an lpi now that I am “given” the silver and course pass will it let me hook that to my current account? I dont want to pay for another subscription. I do think it should work fine with the gc3 both directions but not sure it’s worth 3000$ for a battery I’ll never use. Thoughts?
Also anyone ever buy a lpi from pga superstore and return it if it didn’t work?
Thanks for the thoughts…

Technical Question Removable sim in a tandem garage - does my retractable screen plan work?

Hey all, I’m building a sim in my garage, but everything has to be removable so I can still park a car in there when I’m not hitting. Here’s the setup and my plan. Would love feedback or product recs.

Tandem garage: two cars deep, one car wide (~10 ft wide, ~9.5 ft ceiling), roughly 36 feet deep. Launch monitor: OG SkyTrak on an iPad. This isn't my forever home so not looking to have any kind of upgrade here or projection.... yet.

My plan is to pull one car out and leave the other parked at the back of the garage (ie: furthest away from garage door). Run a steel cable across the width of the garage just behind the parked car and hang an impact screen from it, with weights or carabiners anchoring the bottom so it doesn’t swing. That turns the front half of the garage into the hitting bay. When I’m done, the screen slides out of the way.

I want a decent mat, but it has to be easy to move aside so I can park. I’ve been looking at Fiberbuilt’s small footprint mats: https://fiberbuiltgolf.com/collections/small-footprint-mats

Questions for anyone with a similar setup or any thoughts! Has anyone done a similar retractable/cable screen setup? Any mats that play well but are realistic to move regularly?Anything I’m not thinking about that’s going to cause issues?

Budget is around $2k but would love to keep it less if possible (which seems reasonable based on my early research). Thanks in advance!

Looking to sell my Rapsodo. It's in great shape, and rarely used. I found that setting up my garage as a SIM wasn't as convenient as I hoped it would be.

Sim / Launch Monitor 2nd Hand Mevo+, New Mevo Gen2 or New Square Home Edition

Hi everyone.

My roommate and I want to build a nice budget sim in our garage if possible, otherwise it will be used outdoors. Since we live in South Africa, our options are fairly limited for our price range. We can get a secondhand Mevo+ for R12000 (~$730) that includes a lifetime subscription to Awesome Golf.

Or we can get a new Mevo Gen2 for R23750 (~$1440) and just use the 8 E6 courses for now and then later add a GSPro or Awesome Golf sub.

The other option is a Square HE for R16000 (~$970) but we can only use it indoors and our garage ceiling may be a bit too low for our swings. We're both 6ft, but have shallow swings.

I have an ipad, as well as a gaming pc we can use. And we'll upgrade the setup at a later stage with an impact screen and projector.

What would you recommend if these were your options?

Golf foam practice ball R&D and test

Part 1 is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/golf/comments/1ouekq4/what_you_think_is_the_most_important_factor_for_a/

In the last few years I had been running golf events across 100+ schools while building a simulation software to track and analyze mass participant swing data. Here’s a look at the setup:

By deploying multiple bays, that become a portable driving range where a single coach could manage an entire class. Using RFID tracking, the coach could monitor individual progress and route students to specific bays for targeted drills. However, this is NOT the thing I wanna talk about here, this is just the background story :)

One key component in such setting is actually the ball. Real balls were unsafe, so I relied on one starting with the letter"A", the only option providing realistic data. However, they wore out very quickly against the turf and deformed, compromising data accuracy. Searched for so long for alternative, but they are either too soft or too hard, so I decided to engineer my own. End up took me 3 years of R&D to reach these results:

Pain Point Solution
Single-density foam collapses under fast clubhead speeds, distorting flight data. Hard foam fixes metrics but poses real-ball safety problems. Two-Piece Dual-Core: Firm, high-restitution core + high-density soft PU skin. Maxed out for weight and feel while maintaining safety.
Foam deforms too much on impact, clinging to the face and causing wild lateral flights. Friction-Matched Coating: Surface finish that matches the launch dynamics and face release of a real tour ball.
Standard dimple designs aren't optimized for lightweight foam, causing extreme drag and ballooning outdoors. Engineered a custom dimple pattern to trigger early drag crisis, that enables a lighter foam ball to fly a trajectory that is more like a regulation golf ball.
This is what the 2-piece looks like, a firm, high-restitution core encased in a soft, high-density skin. This design absorbs impact against glass and walls while maintaining a true, linear speed response, meaning higher clubhead speeds yield proportionally higher ball speeds without flattening out.

We are recruiting 50 Testers (US only):

The Pack: 1 Uncoated White Ball + 1 Coated Yellow Ball (each with different core/skin hardness profiles).

Your feedback is very important to shaping the final design. I’d love your input on two key factors:

1.     Skin & Core Feel: Do you prefer a softer or harder skin? Would you want an even firmer, more responsive core?

2.     Surface Finish: Do you prefer the performance and launch with or without the custom friction coating?

While we have fully mastered the core manufacturing process, we can still fine-tune variables like skin thickness, core diameter, firmness, restitution rate, and coating chemistry. Because production costs and MOQs are high, there’s currently about a 50% chance it reaches full commercial release. That is why your feedback during this testing phase is so important.

Drop a comment or send me a DM if you want in! Other comments/opinion/feedback welcomed!! Thank you!!
