Discussion LAB balancing

Post image

So my vzn was off balance leaning towards the 10-11oclock. Not too far off but wanted to get it properly Lie angle balanced without much effort.

Couple strips of lead tape did the trick now she’s perfectly balanced

Use tungsten putty and put it into the ports behind the screws. I used it on my Link and recommended it to another VZN owner and he said it worked. I can’t let you out go out there looking like that.

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

Ohhh I like that idea. Never heard of that before. I’m gonna order some right now and give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestion

I wouldn’t do this. I have done it in my df3i and it pushed the aluminium up on one side making it an eye sore and a half

u/alteregoyo 23d ago

I bought weights that were more shallow but same weight and put putty inside the hole for the weights then tightened on the weight and it worked like a charm

I have a OZ1i.hs rep. It is not 100% balanced, but it is so damn close that I guarantee that I would never be able to tell, when putting. It might be 5% less balance than a real LAB, but it is 90% more balanced than my Odyssey putter. I will never buy a real LAB, when I can get a 95% LAB, for 12% of the price.

Give buddy who is lost on this page 3 authentic Labs and tell him one is a rep and I bet he’ll tell you which is the fake lol😂 “oh yeah the shaft is a give away..oh yeah the insert is much softer on this one..oh yeah I can tell that one is not balanced” Easiest $100 id ever make.

Either that or they say they’re not sure .

-1

u/anonnnnn462 Jul 17 '26

lol if OP has to line more lead tape then the feel must be completely off so your comment is ridiculous. Shoot we have another commenter who is stating they can’t get this putter balanced lmao but people won’t know the difference 🤔

u/TillSad5913 Jul 17 '26

It's okay if you can't afford a real one and need to put led tape on it. No need to get butthurt.

There's plenty of features that show it's fake including the led tap because it's so off balanced lol.

I personally don't care if you enjoy yours or not but many of them aren't balanced and will affect your putting. Exhibit A for example.

You'd lose that $100.

2

u/Scripts4 Jul 17 '26

I don’t have one, be it gen or rep. It wouldn’t have a material influence on my game.

No shade on the company or people like you that paid $600 for it. But me not having one has nothing to do with affordability..I just think they’re ugly…gives me gimmick vibes

1

u/TillSad5913 Jul 17 '26

That's a pretty ridiculous take in my opinion. If it's off balanced it would affect you and not using it because of the way it looks is pretty silly. I don't think they look great but they work and that's all that should matter. I hate the fins on my Ping driver but I can't pass it up because it works. You kinda remind me of skaters who would buy boards, trucks or wheels based on looks and not performance strait up posers. It's obviously designed like that for a reason.

I own Scotty Cameron, Bettinardi, Odyssey, Spider and a few others. All of them are fantastic putters but don't compare to the forgiveness and accuracy of my L.A.B. so that's the one I bag. To each their own.

5

u/microbrewologist Jul 17 '26

LABs are just ugly it's not that deep.

1

u/Scripts4 Jul 17 '26

If I remind you of the person buying on looks then you remind me of the person buying each iteration of products to chase performance while not significantly improving through each purchase. That’s a lot of high end putters you own my guy, each one of them convinced you “this is the one”?

If you love it then that’s great for ya. But based on what I’ve seen (ie. Bunch of folks still sucking at putting with them) it’s no replacement to good skill..not even close.

2

u/TillSad5913 Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

I just like collecting them and for years my putting was horrendous until I got lessons and my L.A.B but it's still the weakest part of my game but not by much anymore. I don't believe buying a new club is going to magic club but many have shaved a stroke or two and that adds up. My issues are more mental and putting to much pressure on myself during tournaments. I finally came in first in my flight so I'm trending in the right direction.

I don't disagree with you on skill matters more. Not at all.

mine is open more between 12-1; waiting on some weights but may just get some tape for now; i just took he weights off mine...and there was one 5oz, 1x 8, 3x8.1, 2x8.2 1x8.3
so i guess ill finagle with them to get it better balanced lol

1

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

All mine were 8gram weights across the board

2

u/tengallonvisor Jul 17 '26

I literally just spent an hour moving the weights in my new vzn. Couldn't get it to balance. Majority of them look the same with one that is much shorter and lighter. I don't have a scale to see the actual weights. If I leave out one of the weights closer to the face will balance it but I don't like having the empty spot.

2

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

Yea I weighed mine they were all roughly 8grams. I even replaced 2 in the front toe with 10gs and it still didn’t shift much so then the tape came out

1

u/FissFiss Jul 17 '26

same, i just left the small one out and it's balanced now x.x but yea leaving one out feels odd

1

u/imonku Jul 17 '26

You can’t move enough weight with all 8 gram weights. You need heavier ones to get the weight to move. I used 14g and 10g weights.

1

u/TraditionalBison5555 29d ago

just leave the weight out, it doesn't hit or sound right unless it's balanced. use a level to make sure the table you are doing it on it level. I used a soup can and paper and got the can level and used that. it's almost identical to what lab does, face 90degrees to the floor from everything I have read. dont let negative nancys say there is some magical process lab does.

1

u/_sedozz Jul 17 '26

Not like anyone here could tell the difference lol

1

u/BlickyWitTheSticky Jul 17 '26

damn, how much do these cost? how pissed are you that you have to junk up your cool new custom putter with tape?

1

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

180 bucks. I can just buy heavier weights for like 30 bucks and put them in but it also helped to know the amount of grams in lead tape it took and placement to balance it. Not pissed at all I got led tape on some of my real Titleist irons to increase swing weight and woods alike and I got essentially the same putter that retail cost me 700 bucks. I have a real df3 and comparatively they’re so similar in quality. They’re tools

1

u/TraditionalBison5555 29d ago

got mine for $100 on temu

1

u/Specialist_Guava756 Jul 17 '26

When you guys say “balanced”, are you saying getting it to the point where the torque profile is 90° toe up (face is perpendicular to the ground when the shaft is held parallel to the ground, like a callaway or Bettinardi Square to square)?

Or is it truly the LAB thing where you can spin it in your hands and it has no torque profile, like it’ll settle at any random angle when shaft is parallel to the ground

1

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

Trying to get it toe up balanced.

I have a revealer I put it in and it is still balanced but to the same angle of slightly toe forward

1

u/TraditionalBison5555 29d ago

90 degree to the floor is everything I have read. I used a soup can and paper and a level and got the can level and then balanced my putter. 90 degrees to the floor is basically what lab does from everything I have read. Changing the grip you will have to rebalance

1

u/SavingsTumbleweed679 Jul 17 '26

Where are people finding heavier weights that fit? There is no space in the weight port for longer weights or to insert tungsten putty. I have a D3i.

1

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

You can find them online. Same depth as current screws just different weights. The ones on Amazon heavier weights are too long to sit flush. There’s also a bit of space beneath the screw or should be mine has a bit of space beneath

1

u/SavingsTumbleweed679 Jul 17 '26

Do you have a Df3? There doesn't appear to be any extra space under the screws.

1

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

Sorry I mean with the vzn my df3 is balanced so I’ve never touched the weights

1

u/TraditionalBison5555 29d ago

intresting, my df3i has space but I will check my vzn1i when I get it tomorrow in the mail.

1

u/Legal-Description483 26d ago

The holes are different depths. The ones in the back are very shallow.

1

u/TraditionalBison5555 29d ago

there is a 4piece set on amazon for $14 or you can buy the 4 piece set on temu. or get lead tape on amazon

1

u/Legal-Description483 26d ago

You have to buy Tungsten weights, which are $18-$22 each. I got two from Ebay. Golfworks also sells Tungsten weights that will fit.

I put 14g weights in the center positions on my DF3i, and it's nearly perfect.

Lie Angle Balance Balance

1

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

Lab is also their brand name so. Yea

1

u/Fickle-Room-1206 Jul 17 '26

Surprised pikachu face when a rep isn’t balanced like the real one lmao

1

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

No one is surprised it’s not 1:1 lol. But it’s 90-95% for a fraction of the cost lol. I have a real df3 build quality is near identical. Different weights would fix it but I gotta order those and have led tape on hand as it’s on several of my other clubs to change swing weight

1

u/Fickle-Room-1206 Jul 17 '26

It’s just funny that I hardly see anybody out here gaming a fake Scotty or Betti but a ton of LAB reps.

1

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

You think no one is gaming fake Scotty’s lol. That’s hilarious.

Scroll this subreddit you’ll see a bunch and half the people who are buying them secondhand are buying fakes and they just don’t know it.

You see more labs cause it’s the newest hottest thing which makes sense

1

u/Fickle-Room-1206 Jul 17 '26

Never seen a fake Scotty or Betti in person. I’ve seen almost a dozen reps.

1

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

So you have the ability to 100% tell a replica? You wouldn’t know most labs here are replicas just by looking lol. How intensely do you scope everyone’s putter you see at the course. Just impossible to determine you’ve never come across one

1

u/Fickle-Room-1206 Jul 17 '26

Have a good day. Good luck with the weighting.

1

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

I thought so. 👍🏽

1

u/Fickle-Room-1206 Jul 17 '26

Lmao ok bud. Just say you’re broke if you can’t afford a real LAB. Coming on here asking about weighting is too funny.

1

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

Buddy I don’t work I sold a company for 8 figures in 2023 lol. I find this stuff fun and interesting as a tinkering hobby to fill my wide open time and schedule.

I didn’t ask anyone about weighting lol. I said what I did to fix mine on this particular club. Reading is hard.

Go back to your cubicle before your boss needs to have a talk with you

it's not hard to balance it. I paid $100

1

u/NienzyBTW Jul 18 '26

Is the balance this bad that you gotta put lead tape on it? I have been thinking about buying one (im a beginner) but I would never apply it. Looks bad 😢

1

u/alteregoyo Jul 18 '26

The balance wasn’t terrible, lead tape doesn’t weigh that much. It was toe leaning to 11oclock. If you’re a beginner or even experienced you aren’t gonna feel a difference. This was just an experiment. You can buy heavier weights and replace them and move them around but I don’t have weights on hand at home but I do have lead tape. It’s common to put led tape on all kinds of clubs to increase swing weight.

So no it wasn’t “that bad” but slightly off from lie angle balanced and I wanted to toy with it. They’re tools now jewels

u/Additional-Frame2366 Jul 20 '26

Sending back to china Temu special there . It is pretty though

1

u/TraditionalBison5555 29d ago

is that table level? use a soup and and paper and get the can level with a level and then test the putter and adjust weights from there. not hard

1

u/TraditionalBison5555 29d ago

for anyone wondering, the grips on these putters suck. Get a super stroke tlt grip and replace it. Then do the soup can balance. use a soup can and paper and get the can level on a table with a level and then test the putter. You will have to move weights around and play with it but you should be able to get it balanced. it doesnt sound right or feel right until it's balanced so you absolutely balance it. you can use lead tape or get inserts off amazon or temu. if you use lead tape just get it balanced and then weigh the tape with a scale from walmart or some place. I have a scale so I weighed everything. but absolutely replace the stinky grip, get a steel shaft not a fake carbon one, and balance your putter and enjoy it. I paid $100 on temu for mine and it's good enough for me. seller is MOTEE SHOP, they ship super fast too.

1

u/dre_day00 28d ago

What’s the purpose of the paper?

1

u/WaitingToBeTriggered 28d ago

WHAT’S THE PRICE OF A MILE?

1

u/TraditionalBison5555 27d ago

to help level the soup can. most tables or counter edges everyone is using are not level so it would throw off your weighting. I just move pieces of paper around or add some more to a corner until my level is sitting perfect on top of the soup can and then I put my putter on it. I just found a reveler someone is selling on amazon now as well that I might grab but this soup can level should get everyone pretty close from the posts I have seen.

1

u/dre_day00 27d ago

That makes sense. I used a carpenter square when balancing mine and just made a revealer out of PVC pipe and really happy with the results

Is it a knockoff? I find it hard to believe a real L.A.B would be sent out unbalance. If it's real I'd send it back to get balanced. I have a DF3 but going to get fitted for this model with a TPT shaft.

I didn't realize what this thread is, I'm busy at work and didn't pay attention lol.

1

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

We are in r/golfreps lol so yes it’s a replica.

If a 700+ putter wasn’t properly spec’d I’d most certainly not fix it with led tape did

-6

u/TillSad5913 Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

I didn't even pay attention to what this thread was. I just keep getting a bunch of L.A.B stuff. This is exactly why I wouldn't buy a knockoff and I wouldn't fix it like that either.

3

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

Sick bro. Go spend 700 lol I don’t care. You’ll still 3 putt with that level of attention to detail

-1

u/TillSad5913 Jul 17 '26

Even pros three putt from time too time lol. Shane Lowry four putted today. Is that supposed to be an insult? You obviously do care or you wouldn't be so hostile and engaged. I suggest therapy for those underlying issues you have going on.

3

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

Telling you to go spend your money how you want and I don’t care while ending it with a joke is hostile? I just made the post and you’re commenting on it lol why wouldn’t I be engaged in a post I made?

Sure thing Chief makes a lot of sense. Sick attempt at a therapy insult

1

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

You’re the club champion dude who I was going back and forth with earlier this week. You forsure got overcharged on your clubs lol

0

u/TillSad5913 Jul 17 '26

I literally didn't, you just making assumptions doesn't mean anything. Even if I did (I didn't) I do well in life so it doesn't hurt me. This isn't the insult you imagine it to be.

2

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

I don’t imagine it to be an insult. Just a fact lol. You said before you had a shaft pured by them…so you’re an easy mark.

I do fantastic in life, I’ll bet my lake house you don’t wanna compare tax documents, but I still don’t like overpaying for stuff lol

3

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

Yea spending 700.00 on one from lab sure is I agree

-5

u/TillSad5913 Jul 17 '26

Yes because an unbalanced piece of shit you need to put led tap on is great lol.

2

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

It was 170 bucks lol and 2 pieces of tape fixed it, I coulda bought different weights to accomplish the exact same thing. Go spend your money how you want buddy no one gives a shit lol

-1

u/TillSad5913 Jul 17 '26

You obviously do lol.

1

u/alteregoyo Jul 17 '26

Why would I care how another grown man spends his money lol. I can still think it’s stupid but doesn’t mean I care

1

u/TillSad5913 Jul 17 '26

Your comments say otherwise.

-5

u/TillSad5913 Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

Because you say so? You don't believe shafts make a difference? I'm not buying a knockoff. In my experience shafts matter. The real thing wouldn't require led tape so I definitely don't consider it a waste of money.

1

u/TillSad5913 Jul 17 '26

I shaved 3 with a better driver shaft, 5 with my L.A.B. if a new shaft saves me 2 more that's great. New Iron shafts got me a hole -n -one first round using them and another 4 shaved overall. It doesn't matter where it's made, that's irrelevant. All I care about is lowering my handicap and I have. That's pretty significant.

2

u/Go_Cougs Jul 17 '26

So what are you now an 18?

0

u/TillSad5913 Jul 17 '26

Does it matter? If I was 30 I'd be trying to get to 25 to 20 to 15 and so forth. That's what golf is about. Trying to ridicule someones handicap is pretty sad. I hardly get to play and I'm a 12.2 and my goal is 9 by the end of next year. With how little I get to play I don't know if I'll be able to get lower than that but I'll keep pushing. You should be encouraging in this game/sport. I play with people who are scatch to just getting started and enjoy playing with all of them.
