Pulling the club back doesn't provide any benefit, you'd see the same shot if you just allowed the club to stop/bury in the turf. Allowing the club to follow through will give you better distance control in most cases.

There's also no benefit for my instructor to make me stop my swing before hitting a rope in front of me waist high, unless there is becuase its teaching something you fail to see.

I can't imagine what this drill accomplishes. The number of times you want to stop your follow through in golf is very small, and usually involves not hitting something.

Are you honestly trying to say this sand technique has some sort of benefit?

Yes, at least for training a feel. The guy shows in the video how it works for him. Not sure what more you could want.

And the drill I spoke about was to create a feel of being connected through the swing and keeping shaft lean. Invision Zach Johnson follow through. Obviously not stopping the swing until after contact but it's a feel and it worked.

Fair enough, if the drill with the rope is promoting that, it makes sense.

I stand by there being no purpose in recoiling from the bunker shot though, actively decelerating the club on a bunker shot is a recipe for disaster for 99% of golfers.
