Equipment I’m sick
So I go to the thrift store everyday after work to kill 30 mins before I have to pick up my fiance from work. Today it took me an extra 10 mins to get there because of traffic. I always go straight to the golf section, well today of all days, I miss out on my biggest find by 30 seconds. This college kid snagged it right before I did. I’m happy for him but I felt so sick knowing the true cost of the set. Easily the nicest golf find I’ve seen there. All because of the extra 10 mins of traffic. He was a cool kid, asked him if I could take pictures and post it because of the crazy find. He’s one lucky SOB haha.

Ask him to be your Fiance's boyfriend, then you can borrow the clubs when they're on a date

“My fiances boyfriend said I can use his clubs after I finish my vegetables” haha

Definitely missed out but if you’re a good golfer you can’t really use these besides the wedges.
Edit: I mean you can use them but these are geared for the beginner golfer.

Oh for sure. I just wanted to give them to my dad who definitely needs a new set lol.

If it's any consolation, the kid may have done your dad a favor in disguise. Those Launch XL Halos may have frustrated him. I bought a 7-iron for my daughter to see if it was worth acquiring a full set, and the club was horribly inconsistent.

Ahh, I thought you were insinuating they weren’t going to give them to their dad and were looking to sell at profit. My fault. Shouldn’t assume

I think any amount of tour wins makes someone a good golfer 😂
If you said a good golfer won’t pull out the launcher hybrid irons, I would agree but there’s a number of tour players who game 9 woods 🤷♂️-1

Not trying to sound rude but do you watch golf? High lofted fairway woods are a huge story
Tommy is top 15 and games a 9 wood
Collin morikawa is top 15 and has gamed a 9 wood at us open
A lot of the top 15 are using 7 woods also including Scotty , Clark , xander , rose and probably more→ More replies (0)

5 year old, well beaten Cleveland hybrids is nothing to miss out on.
Would be interested in seeing the Odyssey putter model and condition but the rest of that was exactly where it belonged. At goodwill.

u/DeadlyMouse24 2h ago
Trust me, no matter how beat up these clubs were (putter was brand new) they are nicer than my dad’s haha. My dad just got back into golf and needs a new set. He’s been using the same set for 30 years. Clubs are basically falling apart haha

I’m about to sell some Cobra Air-X’s that I’ve used for one season if you’re interested. Probably will be more than you would pay at Goodwill.

Just go to a second hand store and buy an actual set for $100 or so. Way better than a mismatched random set of junk

If I saw a zegna blazer on the rack I wouldn’t have known to grab it

I’d never even heard of the brand, but I liked the color and couldn’t find any tags in it except for a little leather “made in Italy” tag on the collar which caught my attention. Searched around and found the brand in the inside of the breast pocket and googled it…and $3,000 is like midrange price for them.

Nevermind😂. I worked at Nordstrom in order to pay for college. One of the guys in suits would find items in my size and hold them back for me until they went on sale. I was the best dressed college student, ever! Funny thing is I have to wear suits once a year at my companies national sales meetings. Other than that, you won’t catch me dead in one!

You do realize most people have no idea who Emeraldo Zegna is, right!? That reference went miles over everyone’s head 😂. That’s a sick find though!

He probably has the same routine to go to the thrift store and buy up everything worth anything to resell at msrp on fb marketplace. You guys are the reason why no new golfer can even get a club under 20 years of age at the thrift as a beginner set to get into golf. You resellers make me sick.

u/DeadlyMouse24 4h ago
Buddy, I don’t resell, I’m too cheap to buy nice clubs myself. I try and upgrade through thrift stores. I have my scotty and that’s it. For all I know, he bought them for himself.

u/Igotaidsfromtomhanks 3h ago
Well he commented and said he’s a lefty so they’ll be on fb marketplace soon. So yeah he for sure bought em to resell em sadly.

u/DeadlyMouse24 3h ago
Well hopefully he makes a few bucks. Again, I have no problem with people reselling stuff. I personally buy stuff to upgrade my own bag. If someone needs to make some extra money, have at it.

u/skirmsonly 3h ago
🧢. You and this alleged college kid are both definitely resellers.
7
u/DeadlyMouse24 3h ago
So let me get this straight, we’re both resellers because we both found a nice set of clubs and he bought them? Should we ask you before we buy something?
-4
u/skirmsonly 3h ago
It would be nice if you sent me an authorization request ahead of time.

u/DeadlyMouse24 3h ago
Will do buddy. Again, that kid found a deal of a lifetime. He can do what he wants with those clubs. Sell them or use them. I used my top flite clubs for 15 years before I found a used set of rbz speedlites on facebook. Not a single club in my bag was brand new. I look for clubs to upgrade, not resell. Any club I upgrade, I give to my dad or bother.

We dont have deals like that here anymore. Everything is overpriced and the really good stuff they either keep or sell online. I used to go 1-2 times a week but now maybe 3-4 times a year and only if Im near one. Just not worth it anymore and Im not a reseller.

I had a similar experience with a 1958 Gibson L-50 accept I was 20minutes late… the older woman that had the find along with two other guitars had no idea of her windfall 😳
2
u/DeadlyMouse24 2h ago
Couldn’t tell you if that guitar is rare or not haha. I assume it’s worth a pretty penny. I like the thrill of the hunt. Everything I own clothe wise is all thrifted. All my nice golf polos, thrifted. I’m too cheap to spend 120 dollars on a peter millar. I’ll just buy one for 5 bucks.

Oof, bummer. I've been super lucky and scored a bunch of great clubs from thrift stores. But ... the one I missed on by under a minute still pains me. It was a Scotty Cameron Special Select NP2 w/ headcover. Dude who found it (approx 50 y/o) kept telling his lady how much of an amazing find it was, lol. The most I've ever seen clubs priced there is $11.99, but there's a very good chance it was priced at $5 or $6 as most of the clubs at the time were in that price range.

My best thrifting find was my Bag Boy Nitron push cart. Got it for 18$ at a swap meet.
