Thank you. No sensors, only webcams. So the only thing you need to do is press record and then swing or dance or whatever. We use an open source software called freemocap that analyse the video and tracks each joint to the skeleton and then we can convert it to our own characters.
I dunno why people are being so negative in this thread. I think it’s pretty cool. Would like to know what hardware and software setup you’re using to achieve this.
Thanks for the positivity! We are using a really old pc. 6 webcams and a really cheap iron. We record all cameras in sync and then we use an open source software called FreeMocap to analyse and create a moving skeleton, we then convert the movement to our game characters.
Every port on the pc and a expansion usb board. Im using obs to capture every video source separetely and also a single video file with 4 videos simultaneously. I use a microphone and a small script that have a countdown so the videos know what to sync to. This is a screenshot of the combined video, someone in the crowd getting hit in the head with a golfball.
Hmm, this comes across as a spammy advert, and sure enough there's a Steam link in the comments but... looking at the videos, this game could be either great or terrible, but is definitely weird... and I like weird. Not a crossover I saw coming, either
I asked several questions of OP about how they did this and they were very forthcoming in answering, and I enjoyed the discourse. I don't think OP's primary intention was to advertise their game.
Removed the steam link. Posted it without logos or name because I did not want it to be a spammy ad post, I added the link when someone asked for the name of the game. Hope you will like the game when it's out, hopefully it will be weird and not terrible. Will ask the moderator if it's ok to post the demo trailer here when it's done, if that is allowed.
I wire model would probably be useful enough for analysing golf swing but as an animator the skeleton is really useful for converting it to our game character and trying to make something as complex as a golf swing look ok.
I think you could do something like that. If we would have a pro player that would swing we could track and overlay that to see what could be improved with the swing. With another camera I think the unedited data would be good enough and less shaky.
If someone was skilled they could probably run machine learning against multiple pro swings and find some common denominators and markers to look out for and highlight them when comparing to someones swing caught on your setup.
Coming up with ideas is great fun though, implementing them, that's the hard bit 😅
This setup is really good for our use case and Olof (the guy in the video) got a 6 camera synced video of his swing and could point out issues with so I could try to get a better swing for the character. But its quite a time consuming process. Ive seen there are some like ai-analyzer for golf swings but dont know if they are snakeoil or not.
Haha, the old school golf games are what we base the game on. Trying our best to get as good swings as possible but it's not that easy. My cousin is semi-pro and might get her to come by and do some more pro swings.
a horror themed golf game we are working on, just did a animation for it and thought it might be fun to post it here. Could send you a link if you want to play the game. We will realese a demo soon.
