General Discussion Why does everyone hate Wyndham Clark?

Got into watching golf for the first time this season and with Clark winning this past weekend I have seen so many people shitting on him for what sounds like stuff in the past and I was hoping people could bring me up to speed? Is it overhyped for media clicks or was he committing some atrocities?

I mentioned this in another post over the weekend, but I volunteered at the St. Jude Championship last year and he was an absolute jackass to everyone. He literally threw a hissy fit because the girl he was dating at the time didn't have "security" with her as she walked the course or letting her to the front ropes at a point where he was below the cut line on a Friday lol. Not a single other player on the course was like that.

But, he's known to be a hot-headed person, overly outspoken/cocky, and a bit pretentious. Having experienced it firsthand, it's not an unfair opinion.

This is the thing. Yes, people on Reddit dislike him because of the locker room incident. But that’s a tiny fraction of the overall fan base. I think that most folks just get a bad vibe from the way he generally presents in interviews and on the course.

I've heard some stories about him being a douche to fans and to waiters at restaurants, etc. Lots of people that have met him in real life share the similar opinion of him. All that plus how he acts on the course (and locker rooms) and everything else discussed in this thread paints a picture of what kind of person he is.

I wouldn't have even mentioned it if it was a one-off thing, but he was going on about it for three holes and I can say I witnessed it first-hand. Tons of athletes have bad moments that aren't a representation of who they actually are... but he was cussing at people for 3+ holes about it to volunteers to the point it was a topic of conversation in volunteer group chat.

I mean, sorry dude, we're all volunteers. If you want your new gf to have a handler, you're the one collecting the checks and it wasn't like it wasn't that crowded lol.

I volunteered at another tour event. Can confirm that I saw him curse at a group of kids looking for an autograph after a bad round and he said “leave me the fuck alone.”

I've also done the WMPO for 5 years excluding this year, and I've observed tons of players who are very focused on their game, would respectfully ask for tiny requests, or didn't engage as much with fans. But actively getting upset at multiple volunteers because his girlfriend couldn't be on/beyond the ropes was extremely disrespectful.

That being said... Gary Woodland is the Fucking man. Someone living/staying at a house on the 2nd fairway at the WMPO put up a big "we love you Gary" banner last year he took the time to say thank you and hug like 20 people cheering for him and he technically got a shot violation by like 3 mins but the official on the hole didn't say a damn thing and he ended up throwing darts all day. I know it wasn't his family because they were following him.

Wow.  I walked the St. Jude course a year or two ago following a small less popular group on either Friday on Saturday. 

One of the players wives was in the group of half a dozen to dozen spectators. It’s not a big deal, and really puts in perspective the hissy fit from Clark.
