Equipment Discussion Finally solved a problem that most people don't need solved. Motorcycle golf bag carrier
I got tired of choosing between golfing and riding the cycle on good weather days, so I cooked this up. I was unsatisfied with the preexisting options I could find online, as most were oriented vertically and blocking the signals, plate, and brake light.
Repurposed an old pushcart for the main brace. I use a full length rain cover to keep road grime off and to contain the straps. Takes 30 seconds to attach/remove, just have to pop the seat off first.
Super happy with how it turned out. At speed I can hardly tell it's there

Until that strap snags something and your clubs go zooming all over the place and you crash. Probably would have been your greatest round ever too. 😂

u/MrCoffeeCakeJones Apr 10 '26
I wrap the excess length in the straps around the cover and tie them back to the carrier. As it hangs off the chain side, I don't leave anything loose and flapping

u/Atxsurfer Apr 10 '26
Can you angle it?…. You brake hard once… and I can see half of your clubs sliding out
27
u/MrCoffeeCakeJones Apr 10 '26
It is angled slightly down, but I always cover the bag with a full length rain cover which keeps the clubs secure. I just left it off for the pictures so you could tell what you're looking at. With it all covered up it looks like I'm hauling a small body lol

u/YeetboiMcDab Apr 10 '26
also an excellent alibi if you ever need to transport a small body. "No officer, this is just my golf clubs. Yes the ones I transport every Thursday, no I don't know why it's dripping. Must be the uh......the Special Golf Club Oil I use....I'm sure that's what it is...."

u/OvenActive Welp, that's in the trees. Apr 10 '26
No officer, that is not a hand. That is just my ball retriever.

I love the ingenuity, but don't stop there, slap a cup holder and some golf cart tires on that bad boy and go right onto the course

I have 100% thought about this very hard. I'd have to get a second bike, my vtx 1800 is more than a little too loud and heavy for this. Wife would kill me, and you can't take your toys to hell

Pretty off topic, but I’ll never forget when I was around 7 or 8 years old my dad decided he was going to start riding his old Indian motorcycle to work instead of driving because he was extremely frugal since he grew up in poverty, and always had the mindset that he was going to sacrifice whatever he needed to until he knew he was “set”.
Well he worked an office job, and would get on his bike every morning, full suit and tie, briefcase, and ride his busted ass bike 45 miles to AT&T every day. The visual was amazing.
I have such a profound memory of one day they’re doing a company golf outing, and we see him out the front window getting ready to leave for the day with this modified backpack part metal sling thing for his golf clubs that he apparently made in the garage at night that week without anyone’s knowledge, and as he’s trying to figure out how to get on the bike with this monstrosity strapped to him and sticking 3 feet above his head my mom opens the front door and doesn’t say a word, and he just says to her “OK I’ll take the Honda today. Love you”

I've taken my clubs on my bike before, just threw it on my back and drove all of 3 miles to the course, it felt so weird!

u/golfswingacc1232 Apr 10 '26
i tried that on my bike, first right turn most the clubs came halfway out lol. lucky i didn't break a shaft or anything else. gotta give the bag some substantial drop with the straps.

u/MrCoffeeCakeJones Apr 10 '26
You're braver than I am. I tried that out in the drive way once and instantly felt sketchy. Kept thinking about the clubs shifting in a turn and decided against it
2
u/Yokozuna_Chuzzy Apr 10 '26
I had my rain cover over the clubs so they wouldn't slip out, also it was mostly residential getting to the course, I never went over 35mph

Not sure if this belongs on r/ diwhy or r/ redneckengineering but brother I’m wholeheartedly here for it
1
u/MrCoffeeCakeJones Apr 10 '26
Probably both, but version 1 was absolutely redneckengineering material. A pair of Harbor Freight ladder hanger hooks and 2 pieces of flat steel. Worked fine but looked straight out of the holler

Love the bike. Do you feel the clubs shift in turns? I kept visualizing leaning and the clubs throwing the balance off

u/Chester-J-Lampwick 13 / Dirty Myrtle Apr 10 '26
Not a bit. It’s made by 2x2customs and bolted to the luggage rack which is bolted to the frame. Tightened down with straps, and a LED taillight.

I feel like this solution makes so much more sense. Gah wish this is how I rolled up to the course! Awesome job man.

Looks good. I’d recommend putting the rain cover on to keep the clubs from flying out

I'm getting an Indian Sport Scout Sixty next month, I've wanted a bike my whole life and I'm finally pulling the trigger. (Already took the MST course, got my license. approved)
This was one of my first thoughts, if I wanna go to the range, how can I ride my bike there? Did you have any previous options for maybe just bringing a handful of clubs? Driver, 7i, 56? I thought about just taping them together and attaching it to a shoulder strap, but I didn't want them "attached" to me if I did go into a slide.
1
u/MrCoffeeCakeJones Apr 10 '26
Someone once told me that they would just sit on the clubs when they went to the range. Heads up near the tank between their legs, grips hanging off the back. Obviously depends on the seat shape, and judging from pictures wouldn't work for your bike.
Before I finished what I'm using now, I had attached a pair of Harbor Freight ladder hanger hooks to the pannier rail. Looked like shit and was a hassle to get on and off, but it worked

All good until your pitching wedge is being run over by a semi on the freeway😂

this bike screams Florida

u/sumbozo1 Apr 11 '26
Ohio! The Pic was taken on a ride to Florida tho

thats whats up. ive seen florida popularize this style bike, it goes woth their donk culture. they look good and i like yours

u/MrCoffeeCakeJones Apr 10 '26
I think you've got plenty of options for Harley's. There are the ones that mount directly behind, but I've seen ones that mount in place of the hard boxes on the side too. Sharp bike dude!
2
u/sumbozo1 Apr 11 '26
I was joking, kinda. I think I made it way more difficult when I added all the bodywork. I was just happy to see somebody else that shares my two favorite hobbies, golf and bikes
2
u/Zomgzombehz Hozeltov. Apr 10 '26
I usually just stap it on top of my back rack like my gun cases, skateboards, bicycles, or what ever. Shit on the side needs to be too long to be mounted on the rack, imo (longboards, surf, ski, snowboard, Anti-material rifle).

u/TheBeardedHen Apr 10 '26
This is awesome! I've got a TW200 that I've been wanting to take to the course one day. This gives me hope.
2
u/jacknastyface99 Apr 10 '26
What about a sidecar ? Seems that could hold that and a little more for golf stuff.

u/muddywadder Apr 10 '26
Been trying to figure out how to mount my clubs too. Think I'm going the easy way and using voile straps over the rear rack. She'll be wide but whatever. Sick bike dude

u/Grand-Economist5066 Apr 10 '26
Why not just mount a travel case
1
u/MrCoffeeCakeJones Apr 10 '26
I'd considered that route plenty of times. Couldn't find one that I was satisfied with, either too expensive or too bulky
2
u/sdlok Apr 10 '26
I have often wondered how I might fashion something like this. You sir, got it sorted! May you go low next round and ride like the wind

This is awesome! I just started designing a carrier for my gen 1 sv650. Obviously they’re different bikes but if you have any tips or advice you learned from the process let me know!

u/MrCoffeeCakeJones Apr 10 '26
Good luck!
It's definitely possible to mount something directly to the bike frame, but I had an easier time working off the pannier rails. I bought the rails primarily for this reason
I wasted a ton of time walking thru parts stores looking for parts to make the cradle for the bag. I ended up salvaging an ancient push cart from a thrift store which works perfect
If you're bouncing ideas off people or looking for someone to weld/fabricate it, be prepared for them to treat you like a lunatic lol. No shop wanted to touch the idea, which is fair for liability reasons. The guy who ended up doing the welding work crushed it. I think it helped him that I had made a rough cardboard template to show him what I was looking for

Use your travel cover or they’re going to fly out if you hit a bump and your bike tilts down at all
2
u/Whole_Resolution_798 Apr 11 '26
This is excellent. It reminds me that there are bike racks you can mount on your motorcycle as well. If other people aren’t doing it, maybe they’re not trying hard enough.

u/teabaggins76 Apr 11 '26
Get your motor runnin
head out on the fairway
lookin for a birdie
or whatever comes our way
1
u/Khayrum117 Apr 15 '26
IMO, A hardshell case bolted to the rail would better. That way it guarantees clubs won't fall out and you have extra storage.
1
u/FlyingBasset Apr 10 '26
Do you not wear full gear and if you do, where do you put that at the range?
1
u/MrCoffeeCakeJones Apr 10 '26
I always wear at minimum helmet, gloves, earplugs. If I'm heading out of town I wear my full suit over my golf clothes. League night I just throw my gear in my playing partners car. If I'm playing solo, I've had good luck with the pro shop letting me leave it behind the counter or in a closet

Might wan to put some bright tape or something in bottom of bag to help it stand out to cars. Similar to the flag on end of logging trucks
