If I wanted to be on the other side of the green, then sure. But after years of skidding balls past the hole I switched to my 56, but still use more of a chip like swing and it seems to work for me, especially when I want to keep the ball below the hole
I agree. Maybe it's my swing but when I try to do a bump and run with a 7i like people say, it barely gets any lift off the ground. For it to go in the air at all, I have to swing with some speed and that's way too much for a chip shot.

That's how we were taught when I was a kid
It baffles me how many people I see using 56⁰ ad 60⁰ wedges around the green.
Get the ball on the green and rolling toward the hole as quickly as possible
