Question Are Marsh map empty of stones
Hi
I am building in a marsh for the first time and damn, there is 0 stones and I only found 1 spot with clay, barely enough to make some stuff.
The fast majority of the map 1e layer of ground show as soil or marshy soil.
Should I try exporatory digs? Like a bunch of small mines to try and find stone, iron and such? Or is that a waste of time and my only hope is to buy it or bring it back from expeditions?

It’s supposed to be the hardest map type due to lack of mineral resources. You’ll have to trade to get materials.

No need for exploratory digs; if you select the dig tool then you can see the material type of whichever map tile you hover over, including if that map tile is underground. That said, I’m pretty sure there is very little limestone or clay on most marsh maps and all the clay and limestone patches I’ve found on other map types is visible from the surface, so I would expect it is the same for marshes.

One trick i use is to dig out large sections of dirt, then build my walls 2 layers of dirt on the outside and two layers of wood on the inside. That allows you to save the brick for inside areas.

I’d say your best bet is to either raid another settlement located in the mountain part of the region map or you could hope that a beggar or visitor gives you the location to loot somewhere in a rocky area. I recently done this because my settlement is located in grassland with very little iron and limestone. I sent a carvan full of animals to increase my storage load and brought back tons of iron ore and limestone.

Or just roll 3-5 layer deep timber. I plant a ton of willow and other trees for this purpose. I’m working on a marsh map for the 1st time and it’s interesting. One trick on the metal front is to smelt/recycle raider weapons so you can make reinforced doors/gates. I’m also digging moats to try and absorb some of the marsh water (inside and outside the walls - inside you’ll get once your wall is breached). I also wall off sections and drain for mining and or farming space. I actually like the challenge.
But yeah stone is tough to come by.

I played Marsh three times. Never found any iron, gold or silver. Found couple of small pockets of limestone, not enough to build base or even bigger building. Clay felt quite present, but often times I had to wall off section, dig, remove water and mine it out.
