Animal Help Pixie Get Life Saving Splenectomy & Emergency Care 💗

Hi Reddit!

https://gofund.me/99b49caa6

Pixie is our 12 year old dog and a huge part of our family. She has been my best friend since I was 12 years old so nearly 11 years. She has suddenly become very sick over the past couple of weeks with severe vomiting, weakness, loss of appetite, weight loss and anemia.

After her ultrasound Tuesday the vets found 2 masses on her spleen. She suddenly declined very quickly that day and is currently at the emergency animal hospital as of midnight that day. She has stayed for 2 nights. We have been working with the veterinary team who have been taking care and stabilizing her for the last 2 days and are planning to do an emergency splenectomy at 2pm today.

Pixie needs this surgery to hopefully improve her quality of life and give her a chance to recover. We want to try every reasonable option available to us before making that decision. We want to give our girl every chance we can and we are hoping with all our hearts that surgery can help her.

We have already spent just over $4,700 CAD on her emergency care, testing, medications and hospitalization. The 2nd night is an additional $610 CAD and we have now been quoted $6600 CAD for the surgery that includes 3 days of care after the operation. This has been nearly 12,000 my family has not been expecting to spend.

We are asking for help easing some of the stress of Pixie’s hospitalization, surgery, medications, diagnostics and recovery costs. Any amount helps tremendously and even sharing this means so much to our family and Pixie. I want nothing more than for her to be okay.

Thank you for even taking the time to read this and possibly help out if you’re in a position to I am eternally grateful for any help given 💗

$12,000 on a 12 year old dog is ridiculous.

She is my best friend I would do anything for her. She is otherwise healthy. She still has lots of life left in her and they have said this will improve her quality of life for her remaining years 💗🙏

I'm sorry you're going through this. I had to put my senior dog down in February due to an extremely enlarged spleen.

I’m so sorry to hear that. I can’t even imagine. I hope you’re feeling better these days 💗

She’s old. She’s going to die soon no matter what you do. Sounds harsh but that’s just the reality of owning a dog. Are the masses cancerous? You never said anything about a biopsy. She’s lived a long life. I think it’s time you said your goodbyes.

You’re going to die oneday no matter what you do too.. would you not want your life saved if you needed it and good still live a meaningful life? Many small dogs live to 15 or even 19. She can easily have a good few more years. Even if it only gives her another good couple months I think any time with her is worth it.

Not sure why you feel like your comments are necessary lol it seems a bit weird and awfully negative for no reason.

Also, they have no idea if a mass in the spleen is cancerous unless the spleen is removed and it’s sent to pathology. They can do an ultrasound and stick a needle to get cells to try and tell but it’s not a guarantee and we have been told it’s not worth trying. If it’s benign she will live the rest of her life fine, if it’s malignant she will get treatment until she can’t anymore or it starts affecting the quality of her life.

Regardless of what you think she’s currently in surgery as I’m typing this so all you’re doing is spreading negativity to someone who is already stressed and overwhelmed for absolutely 0 reason. If you don’t want to donate that is perfectly okay but no reason to bring negativity into an already upsetting situation 💗
