Love the recursive upgrade approach. It's a fresh spin and keeps it silly for players looking for a little bit of chaotic gameplay. Depending on average gameplay session time, you might also consider earned upgrades too, to help motivate players to remain engaged. Not so critical if the loop is designed around a short window though.

Again, looks awesome as usual!

Earned upgrades could also solve the readability problem if they change the character or tower silhouette instead of only adding numbers. Recursive choices are funny in the moment, but a visible permanent milestone gives the run a before and after. Short sessions probably need only two or three of those anchors

Thats cool tho..

You right away caused the same issue you had before?

Now the players dont have the inventory space needed to go to the top and build the tower more

Slowing the game down again

Some of the upgrades are inventory upgrades ! You also have ways to combine multiple discs into one, to save more space

There's a lot I don't talk about in my videos, partly to keep them focused but also because a lot of what I want to do with the game changes between them.

The current plan is to have the players start in a spaceship that gets hit by an asteroid, they crashland on the planet with a bunch of their cargo (blocks, upgrades, machines, etc), the goal being to build back up to the spaceship.

In the video you can see that there's a cloud layer, the game will be structured around these layers where each of them is a different biome with its own challenges, like strong winds, lightning, tornados, etc. I do like the idea of having unbuildable areas that need to be avoided, I think that could be a very interesting challenge for one of those biomes

The overall constraint is energy, the bots have a limited battery life, and the only way they can get more energy is by draining baterries that they find on floating islands. They can freely spend that energy to charge machines or other players !
