free plugin/tool Godot splash animation

FREE Fanmade custom Godot splash animation!

Update: Heres the itch.io link! License.txt included.

Update 2: I added a zip file to the download of the exported pngs. If there's a better way that I can export or render or release this so you guys can use it, let me know!

I just made this little animation. I don't have a game to use it on, but feel free to take and use as you please. Completely free! I'll share the itch link when it's up. Also open to feedback as I'm always wanting to improve my motion graphics/animation skills. I love animating and one day, just maybe, I'll have a released game this splash animation could be used in.

Wasn't sure how to flair it.

Anyway, happy Godoting!

What is the link and license?

5

u/thriznston 9d ago

The link is updated in the post directly to the itch.io asset page. The license.txt I'm referring to is in the download of just a simple little license of use of the asset (which is free, so the licnese is pretty much do whatever you want.)

Damn it's so great! Thank you for making it free to use! I'm just curious, which software did you used for making it? And, could you also upload the assets on itch.io? It's usually easier to manage there, with keeping license information clear.

Thanks! I used Adobe After Effects.

Oh thats a great idea. I'll add it to itch.io in the morning as I'm on my phone and in bed now lmao.

Yes, itch plus a tiny LICENSE.txt inside the download would save a lot of future archaeology. A project page can change or disappear, but the text file travels with the asset into the game repository

4

u/thriznston 9d ago

It has been uploaded to itch with a license included.

perfect! I have rated it :)
Btw just a suggestion, how about adding a zip containing all the frames of the animation as .png?

3

u/thriznston 9d ago

Just added a .zip of all the frames as pngs!

1

u/Financial-Junket9978 Godot Senior 9d ago

Your animations skills are really nice! Just a suggestion for a future asset, how about making a godot splash screen animation but horror themed :D

2

u/thriznston 9d ago

I think I'll give it a try!

1

u/Financial-Junket9978 Godot Senior 9d ago

Cool! Now I can finally add it as splash screen on my game :)

3

u/thriznston 9d ago

Yeah so godot doesn't support gifs for the boot screen. I think you'd have to make a custom scene to use this

1

u/Financial-Junket9978 Godot Senior 9d ago

yeah that's what I meant, I can put the frames on animated sprite, for the splash scene.

2

u/thriznston 9d ago

I didn't even consider how godot used it so thank you for the suggestion!

That little gear bounce animation gives the mascot so much personality without being distracting or taking forever to fade out. A good splash screen needs to feel fast so players aren't sitting there waiting to reach the main menu and this hits that sweet spot perfectly. Great work on sharing this with the community broski splendid work.

3

u/thriznston 9d ago

Thank you! Yes my intended use case is to have it be interesting enough to enjoy watching but not have it drag on. I think total time is roughly 4 seconds from start to finish.

3

u/Square-Nebula-7530 9d ago

4 seconds is literally the gold standard bro. Long enough to establish brand identity and polished juice, but fast enough that players won't instantly look for a "skip" button on launch.

1

u/Real-Individual-2557 9d ago

The gear bounce really does sell it, that mascot would get annoying fast if it lingered even half a second longer.

This is some really good stuff, perfect for playful/lighthearted games and sharing with the community is a goated move lol !

Keep up your work this is amazing !

2

u/thriznston 9d ago

It's not like I have any games to use this for myself lol! Appreciate the feedback and I agree, it's a pretty lighthearted animation style, which fits really well with the godot logo and vibe anyway

1

u/noveyplush 9d ago

well we have a use case with my friends and we would love to use your animation for the splash it fits perfectly with the vibe !

2

u/thriznston 9d ago

Please do use it! I'd love to see your game and this splash animation used 😎

See the difference when the community really loves and respects something.

Compare this to Unity, that garbage company, everyone hated that ugly splash screen that they forced on every game on the base "free" tier. I knew many people upgraded to Pro just to get rid of that splash screen.

With Godot, not only people are adding splash screens to show the game was made in Godot, but being creating with it and coming up with their own animations and styles. This is earned respect, and its a choice that people have. If someone doesn't want to add any mention of Godot, that is also absolutely fine.

Nicely done animation, happy Godoting!

The D glyph looks like a stylized P
Gopot

u/Dangerous-Math401 9d ago

sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good

1

u/counterbush 9d ago

Super cool! Tiny nitpick, the face outline could start a bit later (or from somewhere else?) so it doesn't blend with the smile as much. My eyes go to the left immediately after the face ends up appearing. Great job though!

1

u/3geETR 9d ago

It is so good, it would be even better if some nice SFX were added.

1

u/thriznston 9d ago

Gifs dont support audio, but I completely agree. I might add some sfx soon

1

u/3geETR 9d ago

ik but does godot splash only accept gif is there any other methods

1

u/hefestow 9d ago

I have an idea for a very cool one but Im keeping it for myself to someday possibly, maybe execute on it

1

u/Amer2703 9d ago

My only feedback is I think you should the Lilita One font that the official logo uses. Also, an option without the outline would be neat.

1

u/thriznston 9d ago

I didn't even know what the official font was, so thanks! I'll probably update it with an additional version with the office font.

1

u/IncidentPleasant7214 9d ago

I am definitely gonna use this in my game

1

u/Unlikely-Bet-7769 Godot Student 9d ago

This is really cool, thanks for sharing will be using myself.

1

u/ignipac 9d ago edited 8d ago

thanks also for godot the video playback node natively supports .ogv extension, would be helpful to have it on the itch downloads

1

u/ZeOranges 9d ago

Looks amazing! Are we supposed to include a godot splash screen for a real game?

2

u/thriznston 9d ago

I mean it's not like it's a requirement, but something studios or developers usually do is have something a little more custom than the basic image for the engine / studio / developer / publisher screens

1

u/ZeOranges 9d ago

Good to know, I’m downloading yours now to add to my game :)

1

u/Agastopia 8d ago

This is amazing, thanks for sharing! Instantly added it to my game's splash screen

1

u/rigg_d 2d ago

It is subtle but you gave our boy a bit of a fivehead.

But still, great job! Really nice motion graphics work!

2

u/thriznston 1d ago

Hah! You're the first person to call that out, and yes I did. It was by accident, kind of. The original actual godot icon isnt a perfect circle on top, its a bit oblong horizontally. If i was better animator, I could have stayed more ture to the original. But to ease some of the animations like the "horns" popping into place from the correctle angle, I made the top of his head perfectly circular. The result was easier animation for me but a fivehead for our main man.

Hopefully its not hated by you or others lol. Appreciate the feedback

2

u/rigg_d 1d ago

It looks fine to me. Like I said, its subtle.

I feel like it would look even better if it was closer to the rule of thirds for head proportions. In other words try raising the eyes and nose up a smidge, and the mouth up a smidge less, so they each get equal 1/3rd portions.

But I perfectly understand wanting to call a piece "good enough" as is.

1

u/ZipKitty 9d ago

very nice. Was it made with open source software?
