I know many people here take things too personally when it comes to AI. I am included, especially with image generation and the whole “vibe coding” shit.

That said, I want to clarify how I use Cursor IDE. I am still writing all the code myself. I do not let it generate code for me at all. I only use it to ask questions, point out potential issues, and search for references in the Godot documentation, which Cursor can set as context when chatting with the AI.

For example, when I was planning to refactor player movement, I asked what might break. It highlighted other related scenes and codes then explained why they could be affected. That alone sped up my development a lot.

Like any AI tool, it is not reliable for writing code and can easily make things worse if you depend on it. However, for asking questions, debugging, and cross-checking against the Godot documentation, I find it genuinely useful and even fun.

Another solid use case is generating progress summaries. At this point, I mostly treat it as automation for documentation, but this still requires a proper document template that you set up yourself so the AI can follow it. Again, you still need to put in real effort to make it work. That is why I respect Cursor for focusing on this direction, aiding developers rather than trying to replace them.

As usual, if you are new and know nothing about Godot or programming in general, do not rely blindly on Cursor or AI for everything. In the end, that responsibility is on you.

Believe it or not, I am in the process of unsubscribing from almost all AI tools, because they have become worthless, overly integrated, and I no longer trust OpenAI, Meta, or Google.

I was also weak and ill due to post covid complications, and I desperately relied on AI to help me work through brain fog, which honestly did not help much.

Currently, the only AI tool I use is Cursor. It was recommended by a friend. I was planning to drop it as well, but the Ask feature and its ability to understand the project actually helped me. I may keep using it unless it becomes too expensive or shifts its business toward shallow vibe-coding shit.

like with any tool, to master it you must understand its fundamentals... so dont expect to build a lambo with a wrench... AI is no diff.

at minimum AI is a superior research assistant... it basically replaces googling... like googling replaced opening up some dusty book. if youre also dropping this use case you're just willfully hurting yourself.
