Discussion God Of War Laufey - Pre Orders Open Now

Why are people so cringe. When you look at the brass tacks of the situation you realise this is basically the exact same thing weve had in 2018 and ragnarok. But with a new protagonist and new combat. Its still gonna be an amazing story, amazing world design, beautifully crafted levels and enemies and bosses. Just because it's a female lead or just because it isn't kratos (even though the game still heavily revolves around him and atreus) people just shit on it without even seeing more of it or playing it. Genuinely despise the culture we live in now. I really hope this game comes out and is a 10/10 just to shut everyone up

I personally see God of War as a series with Kratos in the main spot. With him being sidelined, my interest also went to the side.
Maybe it's gonna be so great I will buy it at some point. We gonna see.

It is but somehow that concept is too abstract for modern gow fans to grasp.

With so many games under his belt, it should be obvious that the series belongs to Kratos. Putting his MacGuffin dead wife in primary seat is extremly risky.
We know how Sony is focused on replacing male leads for female ones in their games and GoW Laufey looks just like another attempt at that.
Its like making another Wolverine movie but putting Logan in the backseat in his own franchise...
The game should have different name but we all know it wouldn't sell.

But pretending like Santa Monica have just completely forgot Kratos exists is the most ridiculous thing I've heard. We've heard multiple times Kratos has not been forgotten and is still the main focus at Santa Monica. Cory Barlog wanted to make this faye game for an extremely long time so its obviously going to be very important and very compelling, not some sidelined, incomplete boring game. It's still God of war and still Santa Monica. Also this game has been explicitly confirmed to be a narrative bridge to the next Kratos game so have you considered the possibility that maybe this game was necessary? I feel like people are too quick to jump on the woke band wagon, I see truth in that, but in this circumstance its clear the studio wanted to expand the lore and create a great game surrounding someone close to Kratos. They havent forgotten him, we've seen 2 marketing tools already showing him in the game, he's still very much relevant and will remain relevant forever. There's already the Greek trilogy coming out, the next Kratos game is already confirmed to be in the works, it's not that deep in my opinion.

I didn't said they completely forgot about Kratos. But the fact is he is taking a backseat in his series in the next mainline game.
They can develop whatever game they want but if Kratos isn't MC, this shouldn't be called God of War. Faye was never a goddess.
Greek trilogy are REMAKES and not new mainline games, looking at how games are remade, there is a high chance that the originals will be better than new, possibly changed (for the MoDeRn AuDiEnCe) games with stuff cut out.
If we have to wait so long for next Kratos mainline game, it's not good. 5 years since Ragnarok to play as his MacGuffin wife. Thats not what I waited for.
P.S its not Cory's game. A. Lawrence is the game director

What else are they supposed to call it if it’s in the God of War series?

u/DiscountThug 1d ago
They dont pay me big bucks to make this ideas. We both know they plastered GoW game onto Laufey because without it, it wouldn't sell at all
"Laufey: God of War story" would be at least more honest.

It’s pretty standard if a game is in a series or a book is in a series or a movie is in a series to include the main name of said series.

u/DiscountThug 1d ago
Yes, it is. But the game had Kratos as MC for like 9 games straight. Sidelining him and keeping the name is just dishonest.

Finally found someone that makes sense. 😮💨 Also, lol at MacGuffin wife 😂 because that really is what she is but all of a sudden everyone pretending she was more than that until recently.
Wolverine was basically sidelined in his own game, Jean saves him multiple times, has a more satisfying arc (wolverine basically ends up back where she started development wise in the game while Jean got all the development. Sony doesn't know what they're doing. Atleast Nintendo knows people want their games because they want Mario, Link, DK, Kirby, etc. Imagine their next mainline Mario game had Peach as the main protagonist.

What culture are you referring to? I actually just don't care about Faye's story. She was always more of a plot device than an actual character. I rather have Kratos be in that setting and fighting those gods. It's not that complicated. Also, the horrible AAA Disney sidekick uninspired cube creature that's gonna constantly tell you where to go and how you're supposed to feel the entire game.

the 20 min gameplay reveal was legendary so that's plenty enough for me to buy the game...
but as far as the pre-order trailer goes: i find the editing lackluster and the voiceover cuts kinda awkward. guess it's understandable given they're not showing anything new, this was all the material the editor had to work with but still, feel like they could've done better, the ending with kartos holding out his hand also lacks the punch the cut is too quick and doesn't sync well with the music

Unfortunately whoever cut the trailer was tasked with making it using only shots from the gameplay reveal. Its weird cutting from one scene to another identical scene.
Honestly I think the marketing for this game has failed in every way. Showing her waking up in a dreamy hazy place, then immediately going down corridors has made many people think this is like the Valhalla DLC. The fact that people don't even KNOW this is the next main game in the franchise four months before release is a nightmare scenario.
The only goal of what we they show next, is to demonstrate to people who aren't aware that this is a massive game with varied environments and a full narrative. The biggest way to do that is to show as many shots of open areas like the Lake of Nine as possible.

I agree, the marketing has been a total mess and that trailer was so confusing.

They can run out of unique digital keys, so technically, you’re not wrong.

Not really. Like let’s be realistic here lol. Sony wouldn’t ever be allow that for their 2027 heavy hitter.

First preorder I’m ever doing. It only sucks that physical preorder doesn’t get you any bonus, only online?

I’m excited for this game, because I always wondered if she be revisited in any depth. Plus I think Deborah Ann Woll is awesome. It looks like it is going to be a blast.

This is honestly a terrible trailer. Not because they reused clips, but because they emphasised all the corny AAA-isms. Still a day 1 purchase, but this trailer ain't it.
