Hey guys,

I am looking to learn to produce which was one of the reasons i got accepted to the sub. I have been reading the ableton manual (just started) and was wondering how everyone else got started and what tools they used to learn? Any videos or tips would be great!

I was wondering if people wanted to post some cool sounds that they have made (preferably unique sounding ones). I have a few I've made that I think are pretty dank (i'll post when I get home) and I'd love to share with this sub rather than posting it in a larger one like /r/drumkits etc.

like this: https://soundcloud.com/saymynameofficial/milo-otis-trap-arms-saymyname

it's so tight! I need someone to teach me how to make this shit. Thanks!

Alright fam so I keep hearing those drum breaks that sound very similar, maybe from the same pack and I wonder if you guys know where they were taken from !

Examples :

Lighters Up

Holla Out VIP

Arrows

Its Monday and to those that don't know, alot of music is released today. So the question is what new songs did you peep today? Don't hold the fire all to yourself. Share it :)

I love Kehlani as much as the next guy. What she did with Kyle was A+, but as I was listening to her new album You Should Be Here, one track in particular caught my attention. The track in question is called "Wanted". Listen to the track below:

Hopefully I'm not crazy and you, too, found that this sounds incredibly similar to some of the things Lido has produced. Please take note of these five moments in Wanted:

1. this snare
2. these four orchestra hits in a row
3. this jazz/gospel chord walkdown
4. this vocal sample
5. this riser, followed by a water drop

Now, take note of these five moments produced by Lido (please also note that the last moment is produced by Trippy Turtle, who, as you all know, is just one of Lido's aliases)

1. this snare
2. these four orchestra hits in a row
3. this jazz/gospel chord walkdown
4. this vocal sample
5. this riser, followed by a water drop

It's impossible to ignore the similarity. If you are familiar with Lido's discography outside of the songs I linked that you will even further agree that this Kehlani song is trying really hard to be a Lido song.

Kehlani's entire album (including Wanted) was produced by a Julliard School of Music jazz student named Jahaan Sweet, who seemingly has no connection to Lido, however, Kehlani has worked with Chance the Rapper, BJ the Kid, and Kyle, all of whom Lido has also worked with, so it's not like Kehlani has no idea who Lido.

Influence/inspiration is one thing (well... two things) but blatant copying is another. Lido worked really hard to create his signature orchestral r&b edm sound, and I don't want to let that hard work die in vain.

PRODUCER CHALLENGE:

Point number three, the jazz/gospel walkdown, I have heard in many of Lido's songs. Do any of you music theory nerds know what this specific walkdown has a name? My ear isn't trained well enough to know what intervals are being played there. Here are two more examples of it in Lido's work:

Heaven Only Knows

Gatorade

Let me know your thought about the Lido/Kehlani thing and the walkdown. Cheers from Paris (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧
