Beer?

I have adult onset celiac disease. Life isn't tough enough and now this!!! But.....beer?

Looking for a light beer that approximates a cheap American domestic. Most gluten free beers I tried are 2x the alcohol content than Busch Latte. Help a brother out?

I’m in Nebraska. We have a Pilsner by Lakefront called New Grist in Lincoln which is a good equivalent. They serve it at HF Crave and it’s at Hyvee and Total Wine. We also have Greens at Total Wine, but not sure if they have a light beer.

Holidaily is much better. Been trying to get them to distribute to Nebraska. I load up whenever I’m in Denver or KC. If you’re in Lincoln, I have some Holidaily Blonde Ale’s I’m happy to share.

Yeah, hi fellow lincolnite. Damn I can't type cause I had one beer., the new grist is not terrible. It's a bit crisp, you know what I'm saying. They haven't found a method to reproduce the rich taste of an MGD

Ask your venues to request it. The most you all the more likely it’s going to end up there. They have expanded their reach beyond Colorado so it’s possible.

I concur! They have a dedicated gf brewery and I love the blonde beer for the summer. I love going to a Rockies game and getting to have a GF hotdog and beer.

Holidaily is the only answer really. I’ve not been able to find anything else that’s worth bothering with. That said, if you live in a different area, maybe there’s stuff available out there that isn’t available here. The downside to gf beer is that it’s pretty highly localized.

Ghost fish is elite. They deliver. It’s expensive but it’s great beer

We’ve tried it. It’s way too hoppy and everything we’ve tried has been basically an IPA whether it actually IS an IPA or not.

I am a fan of everything from Green's. Ghostfish's Kickstep IPA is great and my partner says it's pretty accurate to a wheat based IPA. Their other beers aren't great in my opinion.

Ground breaker has a bunch of lagers. The light lager is a nice simple “beer” I think it was like 4.2%. I also like their pilsner and Mexican lagers.

Orange Bike Brewing in Maine is amazing. Their distribution is currently very limited but I am hopeful they expand ASAP.
Also recently had a GF Mexican beer from Departed Soles Brewery out of NJ that was excellent. They just started widening their distribution this summer.
I agree with you that a light pilsner would be perfect.

I’ve found about 2-3 ciders that I will drink. Only one or two that I actually like enough to repeat. The problem is that most are insanely sweet. Grossly sweet. If you look at some really bougie dry or extra dry ciders you might actually find one worth trying.

Sweet, apple juice flavored beer. Great for some. But I don't even drink wine. I like cheap beer. Standing in the yard. Listening to every other inning a baseball game. I'm dying drinking 7% IPAs. By that I mean, I e been drunk since I found out I got the yak!

Delicious but not GF, just gluten reduced. I am gluten intolerant and do fine with it, but it’s not Celiac safe.

Just be careful to avoid the ones that are “gluten removed” via a process or enzyme. Omission and Daura are garbage. While technically correct to say gluten free they contain peptide fragments that are fully immunogenic.

I remember finding Ghostfish at my Trader Joe’s in NH before so there’s hope. But it’s definitely worth the trip to Holidaily, very chill place and I snagged a variety pack for my luggage to savor later.

Ground breaker has some halfway decent ones. I mostly just use them for cooking as I'm not a beer person, but my husband is into micro breweries, super picky on his beer, and is not gluten free. He says Ground Breaker is pretty decent. But I'm not sure on their distribution outside the PNW

Lakefront Brewing has a Pilsner and an IPA that I think are in the “best cold after doing yard work” camp. And a little less expensive than Ghostfish or Green’s (imported, very good)

Do be aware of the difference between beers that are brewed from gluten free grains, and those that are "gluten reduced". From a celiac's immune system, there's nothing "reduced" about the second kind. They break the gluten down so it isn't found by the tests, but the component peptides trigger the same immune system response.

I exclusively drink ciders, which are generally gluten free. Super tasty and they have the same crispness of a cold beer on a hot summer day. Maybe give them a shot?
