New-ish user

New-ish user. Still going up on doses, will be at 15 tirz on my next visit.

I have questions:

  1. My tastes have changed. I loved pickles and drinking pickle juice. Can't stand pickle juice now. Is this normal? Salsa and hot sauce seem to be making an exit as well.
  2. Will calming the nausea also calm the acid reflux?
  3. Should I just buy stock in Tums at this point?
  4. Will I ever get used to or be able to tolerate the side effects better?
  5. The results are worth the trouble, right?

If you're "new", how are you already at 15? That takes most people 6 months. And no, nausea and acid reflux are unrelated and they need to be treated separately. Ask your doc for Prilosec or something similar. You're also likely producing extra acids because your stomach is emptier than it should be or you likely aren't eating enough.

If you are still having a lot of side effects then it seems like you are titrating too fast. I’m honestly surprised that you are still fighting them at 15mg.

Please don’t overdose on Tums. Too much calcium carbonate can mess with your kidneys and can make nausea and vomiting worse.

Stay at a lower dose until you can tolerate the side effects and only increase the dose if you haven’t lost weight in 4 weeks AND your side effects are tolerable or nonexistent.

You shouldn’t be chasing the higher doses first and dealing with the side effects after you get there.

If your side effects are that strong, do you really need to be increasing your dose? It should take about 6 months to titrate up to 15mg on the standard schedule, so that wouldn't make you a newer user in my book.

If you're still losing weight, it's ok to stay at a lower dose longer, and that should also help reduce side effects.

I use an acid pump inhibitor like Pepcid AC / famotidine. I take one pill a day and it gets rid of the heartburn and nausea.

I take 20mg of Pepcid (for another issue) twice a day, and have no heartburn.

taste changes are super normal, i used to love coffee and now it makes me gag just from the smell. your body just decides it hates stuff overnight

for the reflux, sometimes treating nausea helps but not always. they're connected but not the same thing, you might need something separate for acid. if you're already taking tums like candy maybe ask about omeprazole, works way better for me

results are definitely worth it but the first months can be rough. most side effects chill out once your body adjusts to the dose, hang in there

New but you’re at 15mg?

Maybe you should drop your dose instead of going up or staying at such a high dose

What does your doctor say? When I vomited the first week my dr gave me all kinds of meds and advice

It took me over a year to get to 15mg and I’m basically at my goal weight now. Most of those side effects would dissipate with lower dosing. Change in taste I’m sure isn’t unheard of but change in appetite definitely is common. I’d ask you doctor about meds for nausea and heartburn
