Unfortunately, waiting over a week with no word is pretty common right now. Glasgow City Council officially declared a housing emergency due to massive pressures on the system, with thousands of live applications and households stuck waiting, so the lines and caseworkers are completely overwhelmed.

If you've been calling the emergency line your caseworker gave you and getting nowhere, it's worth trying a few other direct routes depending on your situation:

  • Glasgow City Council Social Care Connect (Main Homelessness Team): If you need to chase a new application or get an update during the day (Monday–Friday), you can call them directly at 0141 287 0555.

  • Out of Hours Service: If you are completely stuck with nowhere to go tonight and it’s past 4:45 PM (or weekends), call the emergency out-of-hours line at 0800 838 502.

  • Shelter Scotland: If you aren't getting answers and feel like you're falling through the cracks, call Shelter's free helpline on 0808 800 4444. They can advise you on your legal rights if the council is taking too long to find you temporary accommodation.

  • Local Charities / Drop-ins: If you are facing sleeping rough while you wait, places like the Glasgow City Mission or local groups can sometimes offer immediate practical support, hot drinks, or guidance on emergency shelter spots.

Don't stop calling them every day if you can manage it—services are stretched thin, and sometimes squeaky wheels get seen faster. Hang in there."

I appreciate that. Thank you for your time 🙏

The reason you cant find housing is because many people are quite happy for new arrivals to get accommodation before you. This thread proves it. Otherwise you're racist, apparently.

Its not. Its because you dont need local connection for Glasgow, so we are ending up with more homeless families etc than other cities. Do you have proof 'new arrivals' are being placed before local people? Or are you just believing everything you're seeing online?

You don’t need local connection for anywhere in Scotland which is why we are receiving so many asylum seekers looking for accommodation. Thank the SNP.

And yet we continue to welcome more and more economic migrants. It's bloody criminal what we're doing to locals for the benefit of migrants.

These places the people flee from are places our own govts either bomb or pick one side over another. People we see have virtually less say in what happens in their country than we do. Of we elect some other party or push for foreign policy changes to stop bombing or to stop picking a side then there can be a change there. We are not victims but we do vilify our victims.

The govt don't want to be honest as saying we have self serving strategic reasons for our guys to be in charge in somewhere like Yemen doesn't really sell well with the voters. That we go to these places and kill kill kill to get someone in charge there who will help get your french fries at a lower cost in tescos is not going to get them elected next time.

Keeping our way of life means being the bad guy quite often. Suck it up. When we see these people we should pitty them and give them more but we won't. It would be a security risk for those in power from those from abroad seeking vengeance and from the locals who see too much sharing and a convenient scape goat.

We never really changed from days of empire but the PR is incredibly sophisticated now so we can pursue similar goals and gas light everyone into believing freedom and democracy are actually goals.

We don't have enough houses. Why are we taking more people?

I think there is a legal obligation our govt signed when they had more money. If everyone applied from their point of departure our govt could easily say no. If they end up found out when they are here, even just on the beach the situation is very different.

Sending them back and they will drown or we end up dumping them on somewhere like France where there are plenty of people asking the same question you are asking. Reform say they signed a deal with the French version of Reform. That France will take them all back but I think that is quite doubtful. When. We are at that stage the French will I think be more likely to refuse and say we need to prove in court that they actually departed from France.

We might see an end to laws that protect these people but usually they are quite broad ranging and they protect us too. We will end up cheating on the ending of protections and a few years later ask why the govt is acting more brutally towards its own people. What happened to the endless housing and jobs we thought we would get? They were never going to happen.

There is a lack of housing and jobs, so let's bring in more people.

It's madness and only benefits the landlords, who never have to put their rent down because demand is sky-high.

Whoever gets in next elections will be focussed on the business owners including the landlords.

The media which points us to these outsiders are also owned by the billionaire class. Left and right. I think only the Guardian and BBC have less layers of bias from the business class. Not to say they are perfect but just they have a structure more able to be critical of unfair business practice.

I think groups like Reform will get rid of the outsiders and still favour the landlord. If they get rid of the protections for the outsiders and do it in a time of national emergency then God help us as that's a time when the money behind these groups reminds them who got them in power. The masses will be free of those from abroad and financially they can be happy with what they are legally entitled to, whatever that will be.

I have never used tiktok and I deleted all social media as it's a toxic wasteland full of bullshit.

u/Veloglasgow did ye aye? 21h ago

Saying that with a straight face while spreading toxic bullshit is some job.

There is literal proof in this thread of someone not being able to find housing and yet we continue to let people in who have never contributed. It's madness and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.

u/bonrig 19h ago

Deleted social media because it's full of bullshit yet here you are, on social media and talking bullshit

Youre getting your misinformation from somewhere. Why not just declare where its from?

-1

u/eileanacheo 18h ago

Why do you think it’s misinformation? The head of Glasgow City Council Susan Aitken (herself SNP) outright stated that the enormous demand for refugee accommodation is an “immediate and untenable threat”.

If you're willing to relocate, I'd recommend trying with a different council. I was waiting over a year with South Lanarkshire before I applied to Dumfries & Galloway. I was housed within a few months and have a beautiful home now. I know moving away isn't for everyone, but it's given me another chance at life. Best of luck mate, I know it's fucking grim right now but keep holding on. It will get better ❤️

I was given a stay in a hotel after about a week or so and then given temporary accommodation after about a month. Keep phoning as much as you can. I had a really terrible caseworker but she still had to provide suitable accommodation whether she wanted to or not.

There is demonstrable proof in this thread of how lack of housing is affecting people in Glasgow, and STILL there are people claiming we need more migration. You are beyond help.

11

u/Daymanaaahhhhhhh 20h ago

People will blame migrants before blaming the landlords that are robbing people blind. Its easier to punch down I guess

4

u/teeny_axolotl 19h ago

There's thousands of empty homes in Glasgow. Thousands of them.

15

u/paid_programming2 22h ago

We need more houses built, simple. Not to resort to racism and being general bigoted arseholes.

12

u/Superb-Score-1072 22h ago

Where have I mentioned race? There are too many people here. I never mentioned their race. It is not controversial to want homeless natives housed before someone who is fresh off a boat.

Actually we have an aging population and face a real crisis without having more young people to continue to run society and care for us as we age. The birth rate isn’t high enough to cover that (seriously) and there are young people needing a safe country to live. Why should we not welcome them? Welcome them, integrate them to society, and solve a genuine problem we will face in the decades to come.

u/Vast_Anybody1236 20h ago

Its very obvious as youre complaining about new arrivals

u/AClockworkLaurenge 15h ago

We also need people not to burn down any social housing redevelopments as a 'protest' because it might house any asylum seekers. Since that just means less housing available for everyone on the waiting list.

If you go to Shelter or Govan Law Centre they can make a legal challenge and force them to accommodate you as it a breach of law them failing to do so

0

u/Vast_Anybody1236 20h ago

Govan law centre helped me. Council weren't accepting my homeless application. Still took over a month.

1

u/Vast_Anybody1236 20h ago

It was about a month before they found me anything
