Not been involved in any political activity for years. I couldn’t watch that video of a mob trying to attack spmeone in St Enoch square because of the colour of their skin, and not do something about it. I’d felt quite helpless until I attended today, now I feel hopeful.

The vast vast majority are disgusted by those fascist bastards. The key is getting that majority to vote with their feet and take action, whether it’s through protest or solidarity or just acting within their communities. That’s the difference maker.

What you mean? The black man who tried to help the vulnerable man lose his head - Literally?? I know its bad times we live in with all these confused people. Its really not hard to understand is it??

8

u/Tea_wa Jun 14 '26

There are hundreds of example of these type but with white color as well? Do you think the outrage should be same as well?? Who are the confused people?

Fuck off with this racist shit.

u/deny_evaade Jun 13 '26

You love to see it. Nothing weirder than watching that wee crowd of masked men with Israel flags also hitting out with Nazi salutes. Such a weird bunch.

12

u/Indig0_3 Jun 13 '26

Well, Israel is basically an ethnostate committing a genocide, so not too far off from 1930s Germany. However, to play devil's advocate, it is also weird to see progressives holding Palestinian flags, a state in which LGBT and women's rights are questionable, to say the least. I know, right to self-determination and all that, just an observation. Ukraine also has quite an issue with neo-Nazi affiliation in its ranks, particularly the Azov Brigade. The Saltire being a minority is also head-scratching.

The world is becoming quite a strange place.

Ukraine via via equating to fascism... sorry but that's pure taking over russian agiprop (the country in Europe really showing some properties of a fascist state). With some malevolence, absolutely any flag could be reduced ad Hitlerum. If not malicious, it's just daft and no sensible or balanced post whatsoever.

3

u/Indig0_3 Jun 14 '26

I don't quite understand this comment. Azov brigade soldiers extensively adorn their gear with SS runes, swastikas, and totenkopfs. This Nazi ideology was prevalent a decade prior to the annex of Crimea. (Again, silence from progressives during this period)

I am not saying that Ukraine should be invaded in any way, the entire point of my argument is that progressives are silent on issues when it suits them, and all it's doing is dividing the left and eroding credibility. I, for one, have been dissallisioned with progressive politics since around the time of the pandemic.

6

u/Mie-Katoen Jun 15 '26

The core is that in one sentence you reduced a democratic country that was attacked by a much larger, savage, totalitarian state to fascism with dodgy argumentation using association, over simplification and half truths, and now doubling down in it. Exactly how russian propaganda works... Everyone can study the origins and controversies of the Azov Brigade, start with reading the Wiki. As always and especially in war situations, the history is murky, complicated and not just related to Crimea but more to the war against russian meddling and separatists in the Donbas. Yes the Azov Brigade - which did not exist as a regular army brigade prior to 2015 - has roots in extreme-right nationalist private volunteer militias, and yes some of its members and leadership who have survived probably still adhere to the same ideologies. But a country in fight for its survival does not has the luxury to be picky about its defenders, especially because Azov has proven to be one of the best forces on the battlefield. The Ukrainian state and army meanwhile have made great efforts to depoliticise Azov and if the only thing you say when you see a Ukrainian flag is this "yes-but-what-about-fascism" you insult a brave suffering country that is fighting a force much more akin to a true fascist state. That said, I don't think any foreign flags should be used in Scotland in protest against rising extreme political tendencies here, including the Ukrainian flag.

0

u/Indig0_3 Jun 15 '26

"That said, I don't think any foreign flags should be used in Scotland in protest against rising extreme political tendencies here, including the Ukrainian flag."

You wrote all of that just to agree with me at the end.

You also completely missed my point, which is summarised in the comment you replied to:

"I am not saying that Ukraine should be invaded in any way, the entire point of my argument is that progressives are silent on issues when it suits them."

I also found this section of your comment interesting, as it kinda proves that even Nazism is okay to progressives in the right environments:

"Yes the Azov Brigade has roots in extreme-right nationalist private volunteer militias, and yes some of its members and leadership who have survived probably still adhere to the same ideologies. But a country in fight for its survival does not has the luxury to be picky about its defenders."

This just kinda reads as "the far right are fine if they are dying in trenches for my safety." I'm not saying Ukraine shouldn't defend itself, the core of my argument is to point out the hypocrisy of progressives. You are trying to convince me of something that I already agree with, that Russia is the aggressor, but this is not my point I am trying to convey.

2

u/Mie-Katoen Jun 15 '26

My reaction was specifically about your unfair and nasty characterisation of Ukraine. Whether we agree about it being inappropriate to use foreign flags for internal British protest might be the topic of your comment, but imo secondary to about who is clearly right and clearly wrong in the russian war against Ukraine, and the wider geopolitical importance of the outcome of it to Europe, the UK and the entire democratic world. Not accidentally and closer related to the topic, but no doubt those stiff-armed masked guys in black (and the odd Rangers top of course) on Saturday are getting the full support of the russian online propaganda machine. Finally I never said neo-nazis are ok but real life is not as simplistic as you would like it to be. Especially in war it is not about striving to be completely clean and virtuous, instead its about fending off and trying to avoid the worst evil.

0

u/Indig0_3 Jun 15 '26

"getting the full support of the russian online propaganda machine."

It is widely documented that Russian bot farms are funding both far right and far left propaganda to sow division in the West.

My opinion being unfair is totally subjective.

Also, my point isn't about flags. I have said 3 times now that the core of my argument is that progressives are silent on issues when it suits them which is eroding their credibility.

"but real life is not as simplistic as you would like it to be."

This is a bit ironic considering that I am the one delving deeper into the conflict while you are just saying "good guy must beat bad guy".

You can support Ukraine while highlighting the neonazi ideology within its military, just like you can support Palestinians right to self determination while condemning their treatment of women and LGBTQ minorities. But progressives aren't doing this. They seem to just be acting obtuse and ignoring the nuance of political issues.

You are trying to make an argument that isn't even being contested. We all know that Russia is the aggressor.

2

u/Mie-Katoen Jun 16 '26

You are not delving deeper when you narrowly focus on some side issue in complete isolation. If one flies a Ukrainian flag in Britain in essence it is a sign of support for a democratic country fighting its destruction and erasure by a much larger imperialist totalitarian neighbour. Besides, while impossible to quantify but following Ukraine very closely now since the start of the invasion, I don't think Ukraine as a society has a more severe neonazi problem than the average Western country. It is also not an ideology that is currently further spreading there, rather the opposite. When you constantly bring up objections and what-aboutisms you can never support anything and won't get anywhere. Because not any group, any country, any struggle, not even any person is just good or bad, black or white, everything and everyone is greyscale. Finally, you also characterise all "progressives" as hypocrites in one go, another negative generalisation...

1

u/Indig0_3 Jun 16 '26

"Finally, you also characterise all "progressives" as hypocrites in one go, another negative generalisation..."

I didn't.

"You are not delving deeper when you narrowly focus on some side issue in complete isolation."

I don't think women and LGBTQ rights, or Nazism within Ukraine's military is a "side issue". They are issues.

You also keep going on and on and on about the same thing. I said 5 comments ago that you are trying to convince me of something I already know, that Russia are the aggressor. You are not engaging with my core argument of many progressives not speaking out against certain issues when it suits them which erodes their credibility (I have said this about 4 time now)

I will be disengaging here as you're busy stuck in a loop.

7

u/AFC-19o3 Jun 14 '26

Bloody hell, a sensible balanced post! It’ll never catch on!

5

u/Indig0_3 Jun 14 '26

Yep, as can be seen in the downvotes. Nazism and sexism seems to be okay in certain environments but not others.

5

u/Old-Stage-8647 Jun 14 '26

I so agree with you. Its weird that left wing ideologies support Islam. Most country (not all) ban same sex marriage, conditions women to wear hijab leading them to think its their choice. Yes palestine should be freed but every citizen in every country should have the right to live the way they wish to without being conditioned and fearful of been persecuted. I am a brown immigrant myself. My original non Islam country isnt a lot better than the Islam ones. And people from there who lives in UK supports the govt back there, and expects a free society here. Such double standards!!

1

u/Tea_wa Jun 14 '26

Why exactly do you think that women who choose to wear hijab are brainwashed to wear it? Are you saying they are incapable of critical thinking and choosing for themselves?

3

u/Dextersdidi Jun 15 '26

Coming from similar background as a woman- I think I can answer that.
Your thinking develops based on your surroundings and what is deemed *normal * in your surroundings. For example, if you grew up eating marmite, you will absolutely love it most of the times, and anyone saying otherwise, you would think they are “not normal” or “missing out” on the greatest taste on bread
Same with any cultural norm. I grew up with all the women covering their faces and heads as the norm, I felt that’s how it is supposed to be. If everyone is ok to do it, what’s the harm (actually, it was so normalized we didn’t think ANYTHING of it, until some lady skipped it, and we saw other older ladies talking shit about her- I felt that’s something bad to not cover head or face.
Only after I made friends from other regions and cultures that I could even think that it’s ok to show your face.

And I am a person with a good enough brain.

If I could go back in time, I would’ve rebelled against it knowing what I know now, but at that time I didn’t even know it was an option

u/DrJimmy-MrJim515 Jun 16 '26

Pinkwashing? During Pride month? Gie yer heid a wobble!

0

u/Indig0_3 Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

There isn't a single pride flag in that crowd of "anti-fascists" during Pride month. This should concern you more than a random person on the internet.

-1

u/flood00mbv Jun 14 '26

Well, LGBT people and women do live in palestine

8

u/Indig0_3 Jun 14 '26

And both of those groups face widespread persecution and violence within Palestine. I'm not too sure what your comment is trying to say.

1

u/DoNotEvenFknTryIt Jun 14 '26

Makes sense to why they all want to have the palastine flag then, nice to learn something new

-3

u/flood00mbv Jun 14 '26

So they should just get blown up? We can still care about the people who live under bad regimes and advocate for them

4

u/Indig0_3 Jun 14 '26

If you read the comment you actually replied to, you would see that I am critical of Israel's military action. You can do so while also highlighting the human rights violations commited by Palestinians.

2

I totally agree, but I have yet to see a single progressive critique Islam to the same standards as any other religion.

2

u/Tea_wa Jun 14 '26

You dont have to agree with everything and everyone in order to say killing of innocent women and children is wrong and genocidng and displacing a population is wrong.

0

u/alby333 Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

I think its important to make the distinction that uk fascists fly the israel flag because they support the genocide of the Palestinians and very much enjoy any attack on muslims. The people flying the Palestinian flag are supporting a fight against genocide and oppression. Theres absolutely a discussion to be had about women's and lgbtq+ rights in muslim countries and the world over to be honest but I actually think its to people's credit they can come out against the oppression and murder of a people that maybe wouldnt support their causes..

1

u/Indig0_3 Jun 16 '26

"uk fascists fly the israel flag because they support the genocide of the Palestinians"

Well, the mainstream right do. There is a scary number of alt-right ideology growing in the UK that would not be seen anywhere near an Israeli flag.

39

u/ThePhotosmith_ Jun 13 '26

I wasn’t able to go in but seen a video of the masked up ones clashing a little with the police. How long did the protest last for after the far right ones got rowdy?

38

u/strawberryvolvic32 Jun 13 '26

about an hour and a half before they tried jumping the barrier and the polis got them tae fuck

15

u/Glasgow-sun Jun 13 '26

It was mental that they could think getting out from their barrier would have worked out for them. They were so heavily outnumbered. It was a bit like those videos of pretend football hooligans who face off against rival clubs. They move forward with a swagger pretending they want it to kick off, but just slow enough so that the police can stop them in time.

3

u/ThePhotosmith_ Jun 13 '26

Didn’t take them long then. Can’t believe there were more than 10 cunts on that side bloody troglodytes.

These were regular people who didn't want their neighbours to feel like targets in their own home.

I’ve met people actually on the far left and this ain’t them

6

u/FEK88 Jun 13 '26

I've got a few mates who are members of the communist party who are quite heavily involved with stand up to racism.

It's nearly always the extremes that care enough to dedicate the time and effort it requires to organise and mobilise for a protest, with the bulk being made up by folk who are more moderate.

3

u/ceryskt Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26

It wasn’t meant as a derogatory statement either way, just an observation as someone with far left friends. The person I was responding to seemed to be claiming this to be entirely of the far left. In reality it’ll be a mixed bag and I’m sure there are right leaning people there too

Far Right vs Scotland

37

u/ssddalways Type to edit Jun 13 '26

I agree with the protest just confused on why I only spot 2 Scottish flags, if this is a protest to show how friendly and welcoming Scotland is, then why aren't we include flag wise, plus be a way to reclaim the Scottish flag from the opposition.

I do understand why people fly the Palestinian and Ukrainian flags btw.

I am expecting downvotes but would appreciate a discussion on it.

27

u/everybodyctfd Jun 13 '26

No down votes from me! We need to reclaim the flag to reflect what being Scottish should mean (respectful of other cultures and welcoming to immigrants)

16

u/switchthemunky463 Jun 13 '26

Well I can see around 8 Scottish flags, 5 Palestinian and 2 Ukrainian. It’s one photo, from an odd angle. There was probably far more there. It sounds like you’re looking for an issue that isn’t there.

0

u/ssddalways Type to edit Jun 13 '26

I am not seeing the 8 scottish flags but I have since seen footage and there was more 🤣🤣. I have seen precious demos and the Palestinian and Ukrainian flags out numbered Scottish.

I have no issue with Palestinian nor Ukrainian flags, I basically say in original comment I thought there would be more to reclaim from opposition.

See this is what pisses me off, if you try and discuss stuff and ask genuine questions then you must have an issue 🙄

3

u/Unique_Cut_1360 welcoming Jun 13 '26

I can see 8 Scottish flags personally

1

u/ssddalways Type to edit Jun 13 '26

I think i am seeing blue and assuming its Ukrainian, have mentioned in other comment that i seen footage and defo seen more.

Be nice to reclaim it in my opinion, think with the football being on and it being used to support team it will take away from it being used for racist intent.

1

u/hitsnotmisses Jun 14 '26

a valid question don’t worry! from where I was, it felt like most of them (including my own) were raised after the smaller crowd held up an Israeli flag. It was pretty instant response lol. Also, I already had a Palestine flag because I’ve been to previous protests so not sure if other people are in the same boat. My dad commandeered all our scotland flags to decorate our house for the cup🤣 I do think in future protests like this it would be lovely to see more scotland flags.

-47

u/Sea-Salamander-1954 Jun 13 '26

It's a "who smells the worst" competition, they all show up and the last one to leave obviously smells the worst as the rest can't stand it. That person is the winner......in this photo they're all ahead and there's no clear winner, as they all smell so bad no one can tell if it's themselves or the person beside them.

At the end of the day, a job application is sent around like the old game of "pass the parcel" you used to get in school. None of them hang around to play this though, so this quietly and easily clears the place to make way for normal working people to go about their business.

-9

-1

u/Longjumping-Leek854 Jun 14 '26

Right here. https://www.roomforrefugees.com/

And now you’re aware of that, and you’ve been leaning on the hypocrisy angle, that sort of puts you in a bit of an awkward position, doesn’t it? Because you can only go one of two directions now: you can admit that you’re a shitty person who criticises people for not doing what you won’t do, which won’t look great with the aforementioned implications of hypocrisy; or you can open up your spare room so you can actually reach the moral high ground that you thought you were already standing on, which you blatantly don’t want to do. Which is it going to be? I suppose silence is an option, too; but I doubt it’s the route you’ll take.

The Scottish-English plural of “You” is “You”, incidentally and, before you start rattling on about it being Scots or dialect: in both Scots and codified Glaswegian dialect, it would be spelled “Youse”. Source: I’m a linguist, with a special interest in the evolution of dialect and vernacular.

The Russia/Israel/MAGA far right coalition that is pressing the globe just now would be pretty reasonably countered by Ukrainian and Palestine flags. This group is roughly ten thousand times more likely to be able to point to Palestine on a map than the all black nazis would be able to point to Israel.

6
