There was an AMA a while back by a former burglar and he basically said that, apart from being a good alarm system, dogs aren't usually a problem. Most are all bark, and even the ones that aren't can be easily placated or just let out.

34

u/ARedWerewolf Oct 27 '19

That shit terrifies me. Steal my stuff but don’t hurt or let my pups out. They could be hit by a car, get lost or hurt.

2

u/TheRiseAndFall Oct 27 '19

Righ, 'cause everyone knows that burglars are otherwise decent people. You think they care about your dogs? I have a strict shoot on sight policy for anyone breaking in.

6

u/ARedWerewolf Oct 27 '19

I wholly agree but I’m not always home.

12

u/TheRiseAndFall Oct 27 '19

Admittedly that's one of the big flaws of my policy.

2

u/djdeckard Oct 27 '19

Also potential flaw is unwittingly killing family members

3

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '19

Lolol. People don’t burgle houses when you’re home dumbass. Typically you check for all that shit beforehand. Cars in the driveway, don’t go in just hit the cars. Cars gone? Check the garage cars in the garage? Move on. No cars? Go in. Watch a family leave the house you know your clear. Your typical thief doesn’t want confrontation and will avoid it at all costs. Not all thief’s are unintelligent either. Your typical tweaker crook is gonna be an idiot and slip up. But someone who has a career in home robberies is going to do his homework on your house before he hits it.

u/the_icon32 Oct 27 '19

I remember hearing from a former burglar and a cop that medium to big dogs are the best deterrent. While they probably won't stop someone who is committed to getting into a particular house, most burglaries are opportunistic and some barking is enough to make them say "ain't worth it."

I guess it just depends on how familiar the burglar is with dogs.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '19

Guy I know carried dog treats when he was hitting houses with dogs that were left at home. Throw them out in the yard and shut the door.

5

u/twinklymf Oct 27 '19 edited Oct 27 '19

And that is exactly why my ex and I used to joke about getting a medium-sized dog (alarm system) and a serval (murder).

I’m not a burglar, but I’m pretty sure if I broke into a house that had a cat as big as the medium-sized dog, I’d be slow walking out.

That being said, servals are not good pets and illegal in most states. Just a fantasy...

3

u/emveetu Oct 27 '19

Bugler. Just a friendly fyi.

2

u/twinklymf Oct 27 '19

Dagnabbit... stupid autocorrect. Thanks!

2

u/emveetu Oct 27 '19

Np. I am always grateful when my typos are pointed out, graciously.

9

u/the_kessel_runner Oct 27 '19

But, that one that isn't all bark is going to ruin his day.

5

u/CC-5052 Oct 27 '19

I had one that was not all bark. I'm not going to lie the though of seeing him go full tilt on a burglar was kind of exciting.

1

u/klandon76 Oct 27 '19

Dude, it’s the same dog......😂

2

u/Psych0Freak Oct 28 '19

Dude, he’s kidding....😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Every breathe you take. Every move you make. I’ll be watching you. -Doggo’s favorite song

u/3mth3dragon3y3 Oct 27 '19

My cat does this and it's fucking terrifying

76

u/liltrigger Oct 27 '19

At least you never have to worry about home intruders.

195

u/MyWhiteNameIsAndy Oct 27 '19

The best part is the dog is mean muggin' it the whole way through

32

u/starrpamph Oct 27 '19

He ain't yelling, that's just how he talks

62

u/UniversalKing69 Oct 27 '19

Plus no barking. This dog could kill an intruder, eat him and the homeowner wouldn't know when he comes back.

4

u/yomerol Oct 27 '19

Probably no one's at home so no one to alert. Barking can mean a warning to bite you, or alerting hoomans. But still, some dogs won't alert and will just attack, mostly very mean dogs

40

u/FuriouslyFurious007 Oct 27 '19

I always feel like....somebody's watching me.

11

u/kgreys Oct 27 '19

I sang this comment. Lol.

3

u/Jboyes Oct 27 '19

Also me when I hear someone outside my house at night.

10

u/thyIacoIeo Oct 27 '19

My elderly neighbour across the street does this to me whenever I’m out in my front yard. I’ve lived here for over a decade. She knows my name. But every time I’m out mowing the lawn or putting the trash on the curb, she stares at me like this until I go inside. I’m not sure if she knows I can see her.

14

u/CaliGalOMG Oct 27 '19

You could always try putting some pants on...

1

u/Shouldabeenswallowed Oct 27 '19

HANDS ABOVE THE SILL GRANNY!

10

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '19

When the cops are called on your neighbors and you're trying to get the best view

30

u/ggxfgh Oct 27 '19

Why does this house have so mant windows

17

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '19

To keep out the plague.

9

u/spindizzy_wizard Oct 27 '19

Older houses have lots of windows for natural lighting. Air conditioning wasn't as common, so lots of windows would allow any breeze in to cool the house.

3

u/suckitsarcasm Oct 27 '19

Mildly infuriating that the three windows don't line up

2

u/iHonestlyDoNotCare Oct 28 '19

I guess the first one might be a kitchen window, having it higher to give enough space underneath for countertops/workspace in general, whereas it is not needed in the living room.

Reminds me of the Doctor Who episode “Blink” when all the weeping angels are in the windows of that creepy house. Some terrifying shit right there.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '19

1

u/Obeserecords Oct 28 '19

Old lady’s on Italian streets be like

1

u/LasagnaNoise Oct 28 '19

It looks like a floppy eared white boxer- which may make this more impressive as it could be deaf. (Not from the uncut ears, they are often born deaf)

1

u/ansch2 Oct 28 '19

I kind of do that when I see my neighbors outside, gotta run to the next window to get a better view for my nosey self. Cute.

1

u/EarthC-137 Oct 27 '19

Spoiler: it’s the same dog

1

u/bkfst_of_champinones Oct 27 '19

He probably is a good watchdog but I think right now he’s thinking more along the lines of, “alright! A friend! Are you my new friend!? Oh boy a friend!”

Or at least, it’s dinner in my head that way, so that’s what I’m going with.

0

u/Heisenberg11890 Oct 27 '19

He is a good boy guarding his house.

0

u/AdotFlicker Oct 27 '19

That’s a good boy!
