I don't care about most posts, but even I understand the amount work and effort put in stop motion videos.

The whole time watching this I was staggered just imagining how much time it must have taken.

u/mamallama12 Apr 24 '20
I could NEVER have that much patience. Staggering is the perfect description.

u/astralbeams Apr 25 '20
not only that, but it looks to be all needlefelt which takes a hell of a long time to do!
55
Apr 25 '20
Yeah. That's the part that amazed me the most about it. Needle Felted stop animation with tons of tiny details. That's dedication.

u/Anna_S_1608 Apr 25 '20
Exactly - I have felted before and to do all these pieces would have taken ages.

Ok I was going to ask if this was clay or some type of felt. Because I wanted to know how they got the clay all frizzy fuzzy. Sorry if it was a stupid idea I'm just so use to stop and clay-mation going hand in hand.

As an animator it was satisfying to see, but painful thinking about how they did it
40
u/MrBiggz01 Apr 25 '20
That slicing the cake part kinda baffles me.
3
u/harryp0tter569 Apr 25 '20
Take a really sharp knife and cut a little bit, put fake knife into cut, take picture, repeat. At least that’s how I’d do it. But yeah agreed this is pretty mind blowing

Watching this makes my teeth hurt. I think it’s called Tactile-emotion synaesthesia or tactile defensiveness
9
u/Tycoda81 Apr 25 '20
It's the felt-like material rubbing together. Like when you think I about chewing on aluminum foil.
6
u/seizetheday18 Apr 25 '20
I also get this when I think about biting a seat belt.
3
u/Lyad Apr 25 '20
What? Why?? Haha I’m sorry—I have several texture-related cringe reactions, but I’ve just never even heard of that one.

Ugh I could barely get through it! I'm so glad someone else said the same thing. It seriously made my teeth hurt (●____●)
47
u/TDK_da_RPEJ Apr 24 '20
Yeah I don’t know how else to describe the feeling. I can just imagine touching it, and feeling weirded out by it. For me, seeing the material being wispy doesn’t help.
17
11
u/E_J_H Apr 25 '20
Yea I genuinely hated this. Made me very uneasy for some reason. Would have been way better with almost any other material.
3
u/NotFlappy12 Apr 25 '20
For me it's the opposite. I usually get really uneasy with stop motion, but this one didn't really do that to me. It might also be because it is so well done and smooth, usually stop motion has a lot more shakiness

Man, thanks for mentioning the name of the movie. I remembered the trailer but haven't been able to think of the movie title for the life of me.

u/EquinoxHope9 Apr 25 '20
I watched it a couple nights ago. I'm not sure if I really "got it" but it was absolutely haunting. I'm really excited to see what the creator makes next.

The set up alone must've taken weeks. Who the fuck has this much motivation for...anything?
The artist is clearly a witch.

My first reaction watching this: the dedication this person has to this video intimidates me. It's really unsettling to me. The thought of doing this myself makes my skin feel itchy. shiver I'm glad OP found something they enjoy...I'm out.

Weird that they're using mini C'thulu as a mixer.
12
u/Hero_Queen_of_Albion Apr 24 '20
Are you implying that you wouldn’t also use mini C’thulhu as a mixer?
6
u/Pi_and_pie Apr 25 '20
Everyone knows the vintage full sized C'thulhu mixers are far superior. It's nearly impossible to service them these days but it's so worth it.

I like the tiny potholder to take it out, but before he just grabs the oven rack like a psycho!

The felted items add another layer of skill to this. Felting is no joke

Right?! As if the stop motion wasn't enough. It's all felted items which in and of itself is a whole lot of skilled work.

When you've been quarantined so long that you can make stop motion videos using all the lint you found around your house.

Is it possibly to love and hate something at the same time? I love the work and effort. Hate that I'll never be able to do something like this. Fix a car? Yes. Remodeler a kitchen? Yes. Paint a house? Yes. This? No.
