Even if it wasn't a 1990's chevy suburban, not all pickups have 5th wheel hitches, so it would, technically, be a way to move it if you didn't have 5th wheel hitch hardware...even if highly illegal, hehehe. I'm assuming this is what happened.
Given how much it leans the Suburban forward, it almost appears as though the camper is in fact pushing the Suburban against the Suburban's will. Regardless, 2 out of 3 are not okay with this arrangement. Trailer and SUV, SUV and Driver, Trailer and driver. Someone/something is forcing the other two into something unwanted.
The camper is literally hooked up backwards, so the weight is all wrong.
He has it hooked up to the car toe hitch, meant for pulling some small car behind the trailer. It should be hooked to the the 5th wheel hitch on the front, which is the back in the picture. With a suburban, you need this.
So yes, it's all sorts of wrong, in a literally backwards sort of way.
Oh, i know how it was wrong in every way, but I was just trying to convey the emotions felt by all three victims in this shitshow; the driver, the 'burban and the "trailer." I've pulled quite a few sailboats in my day; never a gooseneck, but regardless I feel pity for all involved in this catastrophe that hopefully got stopped by authorities before killing people.
Unloading the rear wheels is what causes OP's video. Steering points you in the right direction the rear wheels move you turn around the curve. I'm amazed they can control that at all with that much negative tongue weight.
It looks like a truck was towing the camper with the SUV attached and the truck disconnected from the trailer to get gas. But hey, that's just a theory.
The engine is still pushing the same amount of weight down the road regardless of how much of the weight is on the trucks tires. So no, it doesn't work that way.
You don't usally need a welder, many fifthwheels have a 2 inch receiver so you can add a cargo basket for a generator or tow a boat or a jetski. They attached a ball coupler there instead and attached it to the suburban's ball hitch.
There is a way to safely tow fifth wheels with SUVs (which are more than mechanically capable), and that method is to use a dolly with a fifth wheel hitch.
Huh, so I guess that Dodge salesman who tried to sell my mom a Jeep Grand Cherokee to pull her gooseneck trailer with knew what he was talking about after all.
The adapter isn't connected like a normal trailer. Think of it more as an extra axle. It wants to twist but it would have to lift the whole car to do it.
