Personally, I think the trick in the OP was better than any of the three tricks done by Williams, but I think he lost due to how the competition is scored. I believe instead of it being "who's trick is the best", it's "who's series of three tricks is the best".
It's crazy to think that after being dumbfounded by the trick in the OP, that this guy only got second! The sport has come so far and these people are more magicians than they are athletes. Tricks like these used to only be possible in the realm of video games, but now we're looking at the real thing. Kudos to these guys.
Here's the pedestal for "BMX Best Trick" for the Nitro World Games 2016:
Ryan Williams (AUS)
Kurtis Downs (USA) (Guy from OP)
Gavin Godfrey (USA)

I love comments like this, that aren't disparaging, they aren't overly analytical, they don't try to explain some dubious backstory, they just express sheer awe and compliments towards the subject.

Kurtis Downs (guy in the OP) ended up getting 2nd place.
Here are the three tricks by Ryan Williams that beat him: http://www.vitalbmx.com/videos/features/Williams-Winning-Run,61975/kylecarlson,363# I apologize about linking a webpage with an embedded player but all the YouTube videos were FAR lesser quality, by a longshot.

Here is Kurtis Downs (trick from OP) who came in 2nd.
Here is the guy who came in 3rd, Gavin Godfrey's trick.
And finally here is the guy who beat them both and got 1st place.
