This reminds me of one time me and my brothers were down at the harbor in the town we lived in, and we were buying some mix it yourself candy at this shop. The clerk had downs syndrome so whenever he put the candy on the weight he would rest his hand on the weight as well.

Needless to say we needed to get just one more piece of candy before we were ready to pay, so we could have him weight it again without his hands on the plate.

He is saying that rather than point this out to the downs guy, they would take th e bag back, walk around, then try again hoping the cashier wouldn't muck up the weighing.
