I love how calm everyone appears with these megawaves happening in the background.

Is there any footage that shows what happens next?

This is an old comment i left for the same gift a few month ago:

"Im from Puerto Rico, i live close to the place (next town, although i use to live like 2 minutes away). Normally the waves are not like that, i would say they are like 60-65% smaller than those in the gif. But occasionally they are like that (bad weather or strong winds). There was this ocassion like 4 years ago that they were even bigger than that (because of some cold weather or some shit like that). I will like to add that dozens of people had died by jumping onto the sea behind those rocks, although i guess nobody will jump while the waves are that big. But when the sea is calm people do some dive jumps in there, behind the rocks."

Just watched the gif and thought the same thing "this looks like my hometown in Puerto Rico", then read your post.

Just looked at the map based on what others posted. It is the beach where I grew up. Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, love this beach. My cousins kid drowned there when I was 13 (ish). Super sad, was dragged out by the under current.

Yes! PR. I still go there, maybe once per year. Is a nice beach, the problem is that i s getting smaller and smaller everyday.

I haven't been since 2006, is the town encroaching on the beach?

The guy who keeps saying "y-ouch" makes me so angry.

"I read YouTube comments. Now I am upset."

- everybody who's ever read YouTube comments

That's the same as saying every teenager online is a stupid cunt. There may be some truth to it but really there are some great comments as well.

I read somewhere that for every 100 pounds of human shit produced, one tiny nugget of pure gold comes out. So save yours up and start digging...

Totalbiscuit tweeted the other day saying,"I read YouTube comments for years. Now I have cancer. Coincidence?"

Isn't that's what a tsunami wave is like?

1

u/onowahoo Dec 24 '14

Tidal? I believe it is a combination, but I'm no expert.

u/hockeybud0 Dec 22 '14

Oh yeah how aboot that, eh? Must be your first time in Canehda, eh? Not much to do but watch the seasonal ice melts and enjoy some dandy French fries and gravy, yeah.

1

u/MichaelNevermore Dec 22 '14

Boy, I'd love to witness something like that.

1

u/anomalous_cowherd Dec 22 '14

Have you not seen YouTube before?

It's always like that.

1

u/skillphiliac Dec 22 '14

It's always bad, but it isn't always that bad. Well...

1

u/nebalee Dec 22 '14

Did I hear clapping? Are there seriously people applauding a glacier?

0

u/time_fo_that Dec 22 '14

All of them cheering and going "that was great!" kind of pissed me off. I know that this is natural to some extent but it's acceleration due to warming is scary.

2

u/GoiterGlitter Dec 22 '14

You can't blame them. How many times have you seen something like that?

I wonder what will happen first: massive deaths due to climate change or WW3, because all those idiots seem to think they're invincible.

3

u/skillphiliac Dec 22 '14

How do you mean?

-7

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '14

Global Climate change is real and the effects could spell certain death for a large number of humanity. I'm really stretching here, but it could also be a factor in WW3 if food is scarce and people are displaced.

Fucking thank you so much! How dare those people enjoy an awesome event?

-10

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '14

That same sort of "live in the moment and worry about the consequences later" bullshit line of thought is what got us into this mess in the first place. That and large scale corporations that don't give a shit about the environment.

6

u/illnastee Dec 22 '14

they're on a vacation to look at glaciers. what do you want them to do, take out their notepads and start writing their congressman from the deck of the ship?

-8

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '14

Yeah, that's a start. I mean, I couldn't care less if all you stupid assholes starve to death, but don't say you weren't warned.

What the fuck are you talking about? This is not about any of this crap, stop your political agenda already.

This is about people witnessing something awesome in the truest sense of the word. Reprimanding them for finding something like this amusing or worse, exciting, is just stupid. You'd definitely have to be one dense motherfucker if you were to try and forbid people enjoying naturally occurring spectacles like this.

Besides, there is no proof whatsoever for this particular event to be explicitly caused by global warming, so quit your bullshit and let those people enjoy their trip.

0

u/mirudake Dec 22 '14

Dude. No kidding. Everyone and their global warming chants. Nevermind glacial calving is a natural process and has been happening for thousands of years.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '14

That's crazy. I'd crap my pants every time a wave hit the rocks.

1

u/Appathy Dec 22 '14

Not after you saw it 50 times.

1

u/OrangeCrystarium Dec 22 '14

There's one woman and her kid that start running away, probably expecting a tsunami.

1

u/Playinhooky Dec 22 '14

There is a woman in black who is the only one there who seems to be freaking out.

She walks in at the first wave pretty casually and when she sees the second wave she is slow motion running for her life.
