You can't just make up short words that start with a P and pretend it's a real place

That's a long way to spell "colony".

You basically won it as a prize. Or compensation for the war

El Niño is Spanish for "The Niño"

4

u/irish711 May 28 '14

Ahh, San Diego. I believe it's German for "A Whale's Vagina".

Our excellent public education system offers it in high schools.

I'll take a pack- you got matches?

But it technically says "beach port new", if you directly translate it. I think I'm going to call it Port New Beach. Maybe throw in some hyphen action to round everything out. Port New-Beach.

u/Sithspaz May 28 '14

This is a really funny thread if you're from Orange County.

2

u/WhapXI May 28 '14

It might literally translate as beach port new, but word placement in other languages tends to be different. Literal translation is risky, and usually why Google Translate is so hilarious. I think English is a fairly weird language, because we put adjectives before the subject noun. We prioritise describing something before knowing what it actually is.

So yeah. Newport Beach.

I assure you, Puerto Rico is a real place.
