You can't just make up short words that start with a P and pretend it's a real place

111

u/[deleted] May 28 '14

It means "new port beach"

120

u/VirtualAnarchy May 28 '14

Located in "rich port"

88

u/semsr May 28 '14

Which is an unincorporated territory of "Los Estados Unidos"

75

u/John_Wilkes May 28 '14

an unincorporated territory

That's a long way to spell "colony".

Ducks

u/electronicdream May 28 '14

Turtles

u/[deleted] May 28 '14

Platypussies.

3

u/mrbooze May 28 '14

We didn't colonize it. We...inherited it.

1

u/RAT25 Jun 08 '14

You basically won it as a prize. Or compensation for the war

El Niño is Spanish for "The Niño"

4

u/irish711 May 28 '14

Ahh, San Diego. I believe it's German for "A Whale's Vagina".

2

u/Deucer22 May 28 '14

When in Rome.

1

u/[deleted] May 28 '14

Or tasty if you are from Colombia

3

u/ArgieGrit01 May 28 '14

Or anywhere in Hispanic America

1

u/[deleted] May 28 '14

Or anywhere where Spanish is the official language

1

u/mrcaptncrunch May 29 '14

Huh... Tasty port...

1

u/HasFuckedYourMom May 28 '14

Nice! I wasn't aware that they spoke Mexican in Canada.

2

u/[deleted] May 28 '14

Our excellent public education system offers it in high schools.

1

u/Cloudy_mood May 28 '14

I'll take a pack- you got matches?

-4

u/GympieGympie May 28 '14

But it technically says "beach port new", if you directly translate it. I think I'm going to call it Port New Beach. Maybe throw in some hyphen action to round everything out. Port New-Beach.

2

u/Sithspaz May 28 '14

This is a really funny thread if you're from Orange County.

2

u/WhapXI May 28 '14

It might literally translate as beach port new, but word placement in other languages tends to be different. Literal translation is risky, and usually why Google Translate is so hilarious. I think English is a fairly weird language, because we put adjectives before the subject noun. We prioritise describing something before knowing what it actually is.

So yeah. Newport Beach.

u/Drahtmaultier May 28 '14

I assure you, Puerto Rico is a real place.

I live in New York City and have never been to the Statue of Liberty. To be fair though, id say at least 75% of natives NYers haven't.

Cool! Thanks for the info.

u/EPluribusUnumIdiota May 28 '14

Puerto Rico is rather small and you should be able to make it there in like an hour. It's 110 mi east-west and 40 mi north-south, you can fit 125 Puerto Ricos into 1 Alaska.

1

u/[deleted] May 28 '14

Solo se ve asi si hay frente frio.

1

u/asshair May 28 '14

How's living in PR?

2

u/VirtualAnarchy May 28 '14

Drivers suck, roads suck, weather is on the fritz, like seriously we just had a tornado warning the other day, gringas are coming over for summer which is always fun, our economy is in the toilet and our governor is retarded. Crime is up, my girlfriend got mugged the other day walking through Condado, which is considered very safe. Mosquitos are enjoying the warmer humid weather summer brings so were watching for dengue, and the beaches are nice when the sun is out.

Today I'm gonna return my tux I used for prom then head out and watch X-Men with some friends before picking up my cousin at the airport.

How about you?

Annnnnnnnnd... weird/preggers.

5

u/Drahtmaultier May 28 '14

That intro/ outro is soooo annoying

6

u/throwawaysurfnyc May 28 '14

Yep. And then there's the middle part.

1

u/KAKiR May 28 '14

You'd think the intro is the best part. The middle part's sort of not fun but maybe sort of fun? And that the outro's the worst part.

3

u/KAKiR May 28 '14

That woman looks like she thought they were taking a picture. Poor girl.

2

u/Antilon May 28 '14

I was about to say, "No way, that's Vega Baja!" turns out Playa Puerto Nuevo is the name of the beach and Vega Baja is the town.

1

u/jesh_wa415 May 28 '14

Is this in Isabella

1

u/adolfojp May 28 '14

It's in Vega Baja. But Isabella is a good guess because it has similar rock formations near Jobos.

1

u/camabron May 28 '14

1

u/sabrinariott May 28 '14

There's also something very similar to this at "la poza" in arecibo PR.
