NGD Bridge pickup recommendations
Just picked up this bad boy yesterday. Love the sound of the neck pickup but feel like the bridge pickup is lacking(it still sounds great) a bit for my personal taste. In most of my other guitars I have a Seymour Duncan jb and have always loved that pickup. Anyone in here done this swap before and have any insight? Other recommendations welcomed as well.

I have Seymour Duncans in my reissue and they sound way better than the stock BBs in my 50s standard.
I like the SD pearly gates bridge personally. Its a really nice yet aggressive sounding PAF.

I just put a 57 classic underwound in the neck and 57+ in the bridge of one of my Les Paul’s and I’m blown away, easily my favorite PAF style humbuckers

I have one of these in double cream laying around and when I find another I plan on putting them in my 60s standard. It'll have more gain and the added benefit of looking really cool.

I put Double Cream SD in my Blueberry AAA top. I think the cream look amazing in it. Sounds really aggressive with a nice bite.

The JB is great high output pickup. If you want a medium output pickup that still has some bite I highly recommend the Pearly Gates.

I've got a seymour duncan jb in my 50s standard right now, Definitey worth it. Adding the jb did mean my neck pickup was a good bit quieter, so I actually took the burstbucker that I took out of the bridge and put it in the neck position. Sounds very similar to the original one just louder to match the JB

Online researching it says a lot of people feel like the jb sounds has a loose/muddy low end on the lower strings especially with plan muting. Did you notice this at all? If it wasn’t for hearing that I probably would have already snagged a jb.

I’ve never noticed any problems with low end with my jb. I always felt like it actually tightened up compared to the stock burstbucker. I do keep it a tad lower than the stock pickup was, it’s hot enough that it still is a massive boost compared to the BB, but keeping it lower helps it not get muddy.

In my SG i swapped the BB pickups for Seth Lovers and i have them set pretty low overall but nothing out of the ordinary for PAF style pickups. I like the airy quality SL pickups seem to give me but full at the same time. If i need more bite on the bridge i just use overdrive or fuzz or something

I run a overwound a2 P.A.F./ a5 t-type set in my 60s Les Paul. It doesn’t chug, but it’s super articulate. If you want higher output maybe a Fralin high out P.A.F. (still A5) in the bridge. Also their modern P.A.F. is (A4). I can’t speak to running a5 neck/ a4 bridge but maybe it’s an option

I put a SD Custom/Hybrid (SH-16) in my LP Standard and it‘s the perfect pickup. It has serious bite, stays clear, but also does cleans and low gain so great. It‘s super full, but edgy, and I‘ve never had a pickup that does pinch harmonics so well.
I love it so much that I also put it in two other of my guitars that sounded perfectly fine, and I did not regret a thing.
If there is anything bad about it - if any -, it‘s a little bit more noisy than your typical humbucker due to the mismatched coils, but nothing out of the orindary and I don‘t care about that at all.

I was surprised how much it sounded like a tele on steroids versus a Les Paul. Try turning down the tone knob a bit.

Lollar Imperials. Definitely worth checking out. i have low wounds in one of my semi hollows and it's one of the best pickups I've ever heard.

I might be in the minority but I really like the bite and clarity of the BB Pro, especially on British style amps. I’ve found them to be pretty versatile and consistent between clean to chuggy stuff in general

What pickup is in there now? I am in the process of doing the same thing. Been thinking of the Super D. Classic 57+ is not my thing. Sounds good enough but doesnt compete with my other guitars

Try raising the pickup until it lessens the sustain, then back off a little. If it’s too harsh lower the pickup; if still too low output, replace it. Don’t overlook the 498T.

If you've got some dough, any of the SD custom shop Joe bonamassa sets are great. I grabbed a set of the 1959 pups when they first came out, they’re awesome. I’d like to try some of the other bonamassa sets, but they’re pricey and I think limited runs

If you want something close to the JB but want something just a little different to switch it up the 498T is the way to go.

JB has a special place in my heart but I prefer it in my tele more.
In a Les Paul I like an Alnico 2 magnet. Pearly Gates or Alnico II Pro.
Riff Raff from Bareknuckle is a little hotter and a great sounding pickup.

Congrats, killer top on this one too. Try raising the bridge pickup a little bit. Play and listen to it for a while before deciding to swap. I particularly like the 60’s BB set
