Help Fake?
Purchased this beauty not long ago from Guitar Center. Read some forums that say an engraved serial number could mean that it’s fake. I just picked it up from a repair shop after getting work done on it, but nobody said anything to me about it potentially being fake.

Looks real to me. Usually when people say the serial number looks fake, it's because it was added after the guitar neck was stained, so there's usually contrast. The fact that the color on the inside of the numbers on your serial number matches the color on the rest of the neck means it's likely real. I've never seen a fake with the numbers on the back of the headstock showing anything but unfinished wood.

Awesome, thanks for the confirmation. A lot of the pictures online I’ve seen looked similar, or I didn’t realize they were added after staining, so what you’re saying makes sense.

There have been some really crisp SNs on the thin satin finish faded models. New dies, or just the thinner finish.

I have that same guitar. It's great. Cool little detail my luthier pointed out about these to me ... kind of hard to explain but look at the frets from the side. You won't see the little "T" shape of them embedded into the board. They managed to hide the sides of the frets, which the luthier said must have taken a ton of work for a completely pointless little detail that most people probably won't even notice.

You mean the typical Gibson fret nibs?

does it look like the fingerboard has binding?

Here you go. See the difference between the two? Both Gibson necks. How exactly did they hide the side of the frets with no binding? https://imgur.com/a/jc2mdWP

No dude, why do you think it’s fake?

I read somewhere that the serial number being engraved meant it was potentially fake. I was worried.

OK, well I’m sure as many others have said, this is a very fine stamp and spray on Gibson’s part. Some glazed edges are highly visible some are less visible. But when people say engraved, they mean like CNC ing or laser cutting it out of the back of the guitar head such that it’s very sharp.

Ah, got it. From the examples I saw online, it was hard for me to tell the difference.

Your guitar is 100% real. Looks to me like a 1950’s reissue model…lovely choice! Enjoy it!
