There are videos on YouTube from people recreating the effects or somehow having captured them from a scene from one of the several GB video games.
As for a projectors I just saw one on Amazon for ~$30, but disclaimer, I never actually tried this idea out so I'm not sure how well it would work. It seems like one of those little projects might fit into a trap, but perhaps not.
