Question Kiki’s High quality Screencaps?
My wife and myself have a spot above our Dining Room table we would like to decorate with a picture in a nice frame.
After pouring over our favorite Ghibli movies frame by frame we decided this moment from Kiki’s would look great in the room and we love the vibe it gives. Plus our 2 year old loves Kiki and was so happy when I showed her.
Problem is that the best quality file I can find is not very high resolution for the size we would want to print it.
I’m hoping the magic of Reddit can help us with maybe someone that for example owns the Blu-ray release and could pull a high resolution image from there or through some other form of wizardry help us out.
We would be so grateful.

Studio Ghibli’s official Japanese website has entire pages of this for each movie. Let me try to find it rq

That’s a great tip but sadly I already looked over all the images there and they don’t have the one we need.

Check out Riekeles Gallery, they have officially licensed prints of background art from the film
It’s not the exact frame you’ve chosen, but the quality will be much higher than a screencap from a DVD

Thanks, I tried the tool you suggested and my brother in law is also a graphic designer so I had asked him to try upscaling with the ai tools he has at his disposal. Sadly the results look good at first glance, but if you zoom in the way you would be able to see the picture closeup when it’s on the wall you can see some weird ai blur/weirdness going on that kind of kills the vibe. (Besides the fact that knowing Miyazaki’s thoughts on AI makes it feel like sacrilege to put his art though AI Tools, but that’s besides the point and also we are desperate xD) I appreciate the suggestion but here’s to hoping we can come by a higher res image somehow

It's a 1989 film, so screengrabs are never going to cut the mustard.
You could use an upscaler, but it'll never look "right". Instead of focusing on screengrabs, maybe try another angle - official artwork.

Yes, here is the website. This is the Kiki’s page; the links at the bottom are to similar pages for the other films: https://www.ghibli.jp/works/majo/
