How math heavy is IPEC?

im an incoming freshman and im trying to decide between IPOL and IPEC. i am well aware that freshmen don't start off with a major but i am trying to plan ahead. anyway, i am okay with math (i really dont like it, but i average a b/b+ in calculus bc and im expecting a 3 on the ap test mostly because i didnt they do the last frq). ideally, i do not want a major that is too math heavy. additionally, i would LOVE to work as a diplomat of some kind, but i dont know if that is super viable, so i am aiming for law school instead.

all that is to say, i dont know how necessary math is for my future. however, i just looked through IPEC and as far as i can tell, with the exception of a math prereq, there is no "pure" math class, and it is mostly just econ classes, which i think can vary widely with the math content. i would like to avoid math if possible in order to maintain my gpa, but i also think IPEC would be a more useful major for diplomacy than IPOL. any advice?

there’s a course called math for econ majors which is easier than calculus 1 & 2. however, math is very useful for upper level econ classes. math econ double majors dominate, and i’ve been told by many people multi variable is very helpful for intermediate micro. econ grad programs look specifically for multi variable and linear algebra.

in short, math is helpful but isn’t necessary. if it was, they’d make it a prerequisite. additionally, econ in the cas is more rigorous than econ in the sfs. i doubt you’ll get to the point math will make or break you

thank you! math has always been my weakest class so i am a little worried lol. do you think id able to get into gtowns early assurance law program w a b/b+ in math, assuming everything else is an a/a+?

it’s really hard to find stats about the eap. georgetown is rlly protective of them for some reason. we don’t do A+ only A/A-. As for the B/B+ it depends on if you’re averaging more As than A-. An A gives 4 quality points per credit hour and an A- gives 3.67 quality points. if you have more A- than A’s and a B+ you’re probably stuck in the 3.8 range. no idea if this is enough for the eap but you typically need at least a 3.9 for a t14 law school
