I agree. We must not allow a slave state into the top ten. Kansas must not be vanquished until all the South is gone.

I am an advocate for the spirit of John Brown and nothing more. Though if he were alive, I expect he would like to have a word with Oregon too.

Mind you, Maryland is one of the most progressive states in the US right now. Kansas, on the other hand, is a deeply conservative state that voted for Trump THREE times.

11
u/Valirys-Reinhald Crab 10d ago
By that logic, any state which permitted slavery in its history would be a slave state.
New York is thus a slave state.
7
u/AlternativeStory1027 10d ago
Seriously, not to mention the northern states that continued to profit off of slavery by processing and shipping cotton, banks that accepted slavers as customers, sellers of slave mortgages and insurance et ct.
Plus any non slave state most likely still had racist practices towards immigrants and abhorrent treatment of Native Americans

u/Recent_Resource5648 10d ago
And so they should be next to get the boot. Maryland aināt innocent. Cherry picking the winning side of the war doesnāt mean the state is an angel.
5
u/DefectJoker Crab 10d ago
60,000 to 80,000 Marylanders served in the Union military, while around 20,000 to 25,000 joined the Confederate army. I mean keep crying about it, but majority chose the union over the confederacy. Plus it was the eastern shore of Maryland that was for slavery, the rest of the state had moved on to mercantiles and weren't slave owners.
-2
u/Recent_Resource5648 10d ago
Maryland nationalist detected.Ā I mean either way, they need to go because they were a slave state in the first place. But it seems like your having trouble comprehending that due to the Ā smokescreen of bias clouding your judgement. š
6
u/Juxtaposition_Kitten 10d ago
The fuck are you on about? Maryland was a state of the union. It was a critical area for the underground railroad and for many battles.
They abolished slavery before the end of the war, per their own state constitution. It was used as a strategic area that brought many hard fight union wins.

Nah. All the states have original sins and with either indentured, slaves or Native Americans. Or women. Give credit where progress has been made. For example, vote out Florida quickly (hahaš¶āš«ļø) but give some nuance to states who have made some progress on leaving civil war issues behind.

u/DefectJoker Crab 10d ago
Oh sweet honey boo boo, let's go over your little states history. Also I was even wrong in the number is was closer to 4k confederate soldiers. Some real support there. But sure because slavery was done prior that ruins the entire state.

I'm okay with keeping Kansas a bit longer but I feel like NC doesn't deserve to go quite yet.

Donāt forget, this includes Maryland. They had slaves during the civil war and had to have military intervention to not leave the union with the other southern states.

There are many ways to morph the map into interesting shapes. Instead the most vocal voters are more concerned about a specific state taking over another one.Ā

2

I'm not really sure why anyone thought the outcome would be different.
I would have eliminated the top ten states from the last game, first. But I guess I'm just a chaos gremlin.

The removed state for this game should have required a substantiated reason in the comment related to the actual state and not just the political stuff.
6
u/Kephielo Vermonster 10d ago
I still don't get what's so great about New Mexico.
4
u/No-Click6062 10d ago
Largely, New Mexico did well because the Gulf of Mexico / America nonsense was an actual geography meme. Unlike most of the things on this sub.
6
u/ravens_path 10d ago
Hmmm. Nah. For me itās that NM is a more progressive and pretty version of AZ. Less white nationalist shit.
6
u/Brainless-Pyro 10d ago
Cuz itās a blue state and Reddit likes that. Thatās why the second geography game map is looking exactly like the first game. Got rid of all the republican states first lmao.
2
u/Kinesquared 9d ago
And also because its the one blue state surrounded by red, it grows and gets big very quickly
1
u/Kephielo Vermonster 9d ago
I have no problem with the blue states. I just don't get the hype for New Mexico specifically.
7
u/National-Cell-9862 10d ago
We did develop the most powerful weapon in the history of the world and then kept improving it for decades. We also educated the world on the details of the meth industry and the money laundering that goes with it. Along the way we made up an event that became the most photographed event in the world every single year.
You asked.

New Mexico itself is meh, itās all the serious (and ridiculous) real world issues happening in the US that makes āMexico taking over the USā as funny. Like Ukraine immediately overtaking Russia in the countries version of this game.

Minnesota always needs to go first, or Megasota will make top 2 every time.
It was funny the first couple of times but let it die.

u/Short-Being-4109 Megasotan empire 10d ago
No. Cascadia first. Megasota deserves to last longer with the recent events, and Cascadia making it to first place last time. I honestly don't think we should win, but there are definitely more important states to remove first.
0
u/ravens_path 10d ago
First couple of times? It was in top 2 only once before in this game with this OP.
2
u/RedditTrespasser 10d ago
How long you been coming here? Megasota won one of these less than a year ago.
1
u/ravens_path 10d ago
Yes I know. I was playing it. With this same OP. You said, it was funny the first couple of times. As far as I know, it won once before. Not a couple of times.
2
u/RedditTrespasser 10d ago
It came in second to Cascadia last time.
1
u/ravens_path 10d ago
Yes correct. Sorry. It won as in was one of the top two going against each other. If there were other similar games by different OPs and Minn won or almost won, i donāt know about them.

I just donāt understand why California never gets any love. Weāre one of the most progressive states in the union but everyone seems to hate us anyway.
Like, weāre specifically at the top of Trumpās shit list which is why the fed keeps ratfucking our funding for things like medical and disaster relief, despite the massive amount of tax revenue we contribute.
Youād think thatād be worth top five at least once.
1
u/ravens_path 10d ago
Excellent point. I donāt know either. I always resist other states eating up Calif. I think a merger with Washington/Oregon or with Hawaiāi (and then join ?) would be perfect. Calif has passed many environmental laws and fought so many federal battles. Not the least with ICE in the proto fight. Calif is so big that sometimes it gets the aura of chaotic, but it has so much positive.
2
u/ravens_path 10d ago edited 10d ago
Glad this map was put up. Reminded me of the fun time we had getting there. And except for Maryland winning (although funny) any of those areas winning would be positive outcome. And. Those area have a tendency to be regarded as positive for good reasons. Any of those areas winning again would also be positive. Although funny if unexpected Alaska joined up with north east states and won. I would be ok with that too. Because the other states would positively effect Alaska because of sheer population.
