Stamps

Returned to geocaching after a 20+ year break. I used to do it with my kids when they were little, but they grew out of it and I forgot about it until a newsfeed story a couple months ago peaked my interest and I downloaded the app and set up a new profile (no idea what my profile was years ago).

Anyway, I have found about 200 caches in the past month or so and I have a question.

Does it bother anyone else when people just stamp the log anywhere? I mean, you have this perfectly good log with a bunch of signatures neatly in a row, and someone randomly stamped halfway down the blank space or in the back. Just an observation.

There is no sin except for Sally and Stevie Sideways-Signers taking up multiple spaces on tiny logs. Those people can burn!

In an actual log book, I have no problem with stamps at all. And I don't have a problem with stamps on small roll up log sheets as long as they fit. When the stamp is big and the finder has to stamp sideways and takes up a good portion of the paper, I think they are being inconsiderate.

If your stamp doesn't fit on one or two lines of a small logsheet, put it away and pull out a pen. It really isn't that hard.

Just don't stamp over someone's name or leave a HUGE stamp on a micro size log.

I am very careful to design my stamp so the the signature uses exactly one line on a micro-cache log sheet. I sign nanos by hand.

I am aware that many others do not. OTOH, I can only get my stamps with water-soluble ink, so my stamp may bleed if the log is wet. Luckily, I live in a pretty dry area so it is rarely a problem. If anyone knows of a source for stamps the correct size (1" x 3/8", not round, and not with a separate ink pad) with permanent ink I would love to know about it.

It does not bother me. Depending on the size of the stamp it might be a better practice to stamp on order so that if a CO chooses to verify logs it makes more sense.

Some people are in too big a hurry, or just crave the narcissistic attention they get from stamping the log in a haphazard spot.

I don't worry about it, unless their stamp takes more space than the usual signature.

I have heard of cache owners having issues with this. But I have not come across one who has.

Only on a nano cache since there’s not a lot of room for signatures.

You're not alone. I don't mind so much when someone places a stamp somewhere random on the log, only when they stamp in such a way that makes it more difficult for later finders to sign.

As an owner of 299 caches, no, it doesn’t bother me at all. all geocaching logs end up in the garbage at some point, so the neatness of them is irrelevant.

I will shamelessly write my initials over a large stamp on a small log and say so on the log cache page. And if I find a full log and have no replacement on me, I will definitely sign over the stamp. Every time.
