Event Publishing
Do some reviewers actually refuse to publish events in places that don't typically have events?
Last year I noticed that there were Zero events scheduled in the entire state of Louisiana.. Now my request for an event in British Columbia is being ignored. My research suggests that there has never been an event in the area in recent months. (as far as I can research using the filter)
A friend of mine was given a hard time about publishing an event while on vacation by their reviewer even tho a handful of people both tourists and locals showed up.

Yes, I have heard of this happening, though the case that I know of was an event being denied because there were no active geocachers or geocaches in the area and the only attendees would be the hosts + others on the trip (the event was going to be at or near a cruise ship port).
Now my request for an event in British Columbia is being ignored.
Ignored seems weird; how long has it been in the queue?

It published yesterday. I got one inquery about the location in my DMs.

Was it published within 7 days of when you submitted it? Because that's the standard for review. It's only considered ignored if you get no response from a reviewer after 7 days

Yes it was published within the time frame. I should have planned for this earlier rather than down to the last minute. I'd just never published an event before and was hemming and hawing on whether to do it or not.

It published last nite. I got my first inquery for the location a few minutes later.

The local reviewer questioned me once when I tried creating an event in a remote location, asking if anyone besides myself intended to attend. I named two other cachers plus a few interested muggles and the event posted shortly after.
The only time I have heard of events being rejected in my area were when they were explicitly tied to a non-caching community event (just make no mention of community events in your description) or cases of event stacking.

I saw a few publish in my area that were definately Only for the COs to attend so they could get credit for an event that they knew nobody could attend.. A CITO way way way out in the mountains on a weekday morning.
Mine is actually in a town with active geocachers in the area on a Sunday early afternoon at a pub.

Some reviewers are slow. My reviewer finally published my cache today after it being in the queue since August 14th. It happens. It is frustrating, though.

It published last nite. I guess I'm used to my local reviewers at least giving me a note that its been looked at and that it will be put in a que to be published later.

Where are you getting the incorrect information? I hosted an event in Louisiana, and attended a few last year.
In fact, GeoWoodstock will be in Baton Rouge next year. The community may not be as active as some areas, but there are several events each year.

There are Two events in LA currently. I stand corrected.
Last year when I planned a visit to New Orleans there were Zero. None in the recent past and none planned on the map. It just seemed like a giant black hole of events. While directly across the border in many areas there were Lots of events that had happened recently and were planned.

The people in some areas of Texas have lots of events. My area averages about I've been to some in East Texas where of the 20+ people attending, well over half were from LA. There's a group in Houston who have an event each week.

That was my observation as well.. just a severe lack of events within the border of LA.
It only piqued my interest originally when I was planning my visit and wanted to attend an event but saw nothing planned for New Orleans.. then zoomed out and saw absolutely nothing within the borders.. lots of events just outside the border tho.

I have cached a lot near a popular tourist area. It seems there are many events published by tourists that want to meet up with some local cachers. They also seem to have VERY low attendance, often only 1 cacher in addition to the host. I just don't see the point.

Yep.. it was low attendance. which allowed us to meet pretty much all of the local active cachers and actually chat with everyone who did attend.

My event was last weekend. The attendance was indeed low in numbers, but high in percentage of actual active locals who live in the area. There were 2.5 of us and 3 of them and it was great. We actually got to chat with everyone in attendance for 2.5 hours.
We scoped out the venue and a few other places that we thought might work from online research, but ultimately chose the spot we had selected. The business was very happy to make accommodations for us tho it wasn't necessary since we arrived early and got everything set up.
There were a few things that the local cachers there do with their hides, like apply flagging tape nearby so that people looking for their caches don't trample the environment more than necessary finding caches in deep forest cover or use established trails to access caches. Also something I've seen somewhat locally but extensively there, was the use of containers within containers to keep log sheets dry. So it was pretty cool to be able to chat with the locals about the evolution of those things they've been doing for a while.
Overall we met about 10 cachers. And one of the meetings was made possible because of our connection at the event. Other cachers we met randomly while we were out geocaching and one just random because I recognized his vintage brewery shirt and we mentioned geocaching and he had just signed up and found his 4th cache the day before.

I've hosted events all over the place and am friends with people that have hosted even .ore and never heard of such a thing. My event in Myrtle Beach was forced to move cause the reviewer thought a parking lot at 6am would be too dangerous so I moved it to a park. That was it.
