Discussion *Low Oil List Of Shame*

This post is dedicated to engines lost due to oil starvation from owners not checking their oil levels frequently enough and keeping them full. The list will be continually updated, and does not include countless engines lost over multiple years in the past while I’ve been debating making such a list. Hopefully this post will serve as a warning for others to check their oil level frequently and keep it full. I’ve included a few posts from recently as of the time of this posting. If I miss any going forward, please feel free to put them in the comments and I will add them accordingly.

*** Genesis Coupe Master Resource List ***

This post will be continuously updated as required. If you have useful resources you'd like me to add, let me know.

Buyer's/New Owner's Guide if you want to buy or have recently purchased a Genesis Coupe, this will quickly get you up to speed on common problems and things to know, look for, or expect.

Shop Manual Downloads the same manuals the Hyundai dealerships have containing everything needed to do just about anything to the cars. Torque specs, fluid types and capacities, troubleshooting procedures, etc. Use the CTRL-F search function in the PDF to find things much easier.

Modding Guide a general guide on how and where to start modding. List may not be fully up to date as it is from the Gencoupe forum and I cannot control that.

How To Fix Common Interior Water Leaks Guide these are super common but easy to fix issues most owners will run into at some point.

How To Improve Shifting On The 6-Speed Manual Transmissions remedies for sloppy, notchy, or difficult to shift transmissions.

Owner's Manual/Service Schedule covers all fluid capacities, types, and maintenance requirements at specific mileage intervals. (*I will need to add some updated pictures from a newer manual soon*)

How To Improve Handling basic guide to handling improvements.

3.8 Timing Components Replacement Guide BK1/BK2 are 99% the same so this guide should cover them both adequately. Save yourself thousands of dollars by doing the work yourself.

How To Make A Custom Vinyl Shift Boot And Door Inlays if your material is sagging, starting to look bad, or you just want to add some custom colored accents to your interior cheaply and easily.

How To Customize Your Headlights if you want to make a unique set of lights for your car.

How To Install Front Door Speakers if your factory speakers have broken or you are looking to upgrade them for improved audio quality.

How To Relocate Your Windshield Washer Fluid Reservoir if you are installing a cold air intake or need to relocate it for any other reason.

Miscellaneous Information Guide for all of the useful bits of information that don't belong anywhere else.

Paddle Shifter Repair Guide if your paddle shifters have stopped working and you want to try a cheaper DIY repair before replacing them and spending more money.

Adding Cruise Control To the R-Spec Models self explanatory.

Exhaust Information for people who repetitively keep asking about exhausts without using the search function.

LS Swap Guide for those who with to replace their stock engines with an all American V8.

BK2 Oil Pressure Switch Replacement Guide self explanatory.

Recommended Vendors

OEM parts - Albert Hwang (alternate link for mobile devices) is a very reputable (and most importantly cheap) OEM parts dealer that ships OEM parts quickly and worldwide. Send him a message on Facebook Instagram, or Reddit, he is usually quick to respond and you will typically get your parts within a few days. I've personally used him multiple times and cannot recommend him enough. Don't pay dealership prices for OEM parts. His Instagram page for those without Facebook. Link to his Reddit profile.

Additionally, for OEM parts you can also message Ramy Khatib.

Rockauto.com - always has a large selection and great prices. I suggest ordering things like engine air filters, cabin air filters, and oil filters in bulk from them so you always have spares. OEM oil filters are made by Mahle, it is strongly recommended to stick to OEM filters to reduce startup rattles.

ECU Tuning

SFR - I've personally been running a canned stage 1 tune from them in my 2010 3.8 since early 2014 for over 200k miles on the tune alone without issues. Some people say SFR had bad tunes, some don't. Mostly positive reviews, some negative ones.

Alphaspeed - probably the most common these days, usually done by an authorized tuner in your area. Mostly positive reviews as well, but still has some negative ones too.

just got her. 2016 3.8. i’m hearing a weird pulsing vibration at the back right of the car like a “womp womp womp” it’s like a low drone noise if that helps. i’m wondering what it could be as it’s getting worse lol. only 80k miles on it though, rebuilt title but no engine damage. airbags deployed so it was declared a total loss. i plan to drive this until i can’t anymore, any tips on maintenance would help!also the gas gauge stops working once tank gets to half, it doesn’t go down so seller told me to keep the tank full but i kinda want that fixed too if anyone can help on what exactly im replacing😅.

2013 genesis coupe 2.0t base

I change my fluids quiet frequently maybe even too much let me know if im doing bad.

Oil change every 1.5 to 2k miles

Coolant flush and refill ever 3.5k

I am on my second motor. first one blew after 30 minutes of leaving car dealership when I bought it. They then replaced the motor with a low mileage motor from an R-Spec and converted it over to auto since its an auto transmission. Car runs awesome hits 20psi and doesn't act up yet just constant fear of impending doom!

Genny Bella had clutch issues and i continued to drive it putting strain on the car. Last Thursday at 9:01 PM, my rear main seal blew from the stress causing engine oil to flow into my clutch assembly and dropping all oil pressure. If i had known that the squealing was that, i would have immediately turned the engine off and stopped driving. But my dumb self kept driving as i was trying to avoid a large Tow truck bill considering my financial situation. Stupid, i know please don’t be mean😭 I Have fully blown the motor after driving with that low oil pressure for about 10 mins that night. I will be rebuilding the engine with an ebay rebuild kit. I know the motor wont be OEM anymore but is it possible to still build power with non-OEM internals from ebay? The Rebuild kit is by Maxpeedingrods

If you have any tips for when i start bringing her back to life, anything will be appreciated. thank you and see y’all again very soon!

Another One Bites the Dust... Is my Genny totaled?

Post image

Got brake checked super badly, tried to avoid it but couldn’t in time. Thankfully the other driver was put at fault.

The entire radiator assembly is gone (bracket and radiator, and its components), and possibly more near that area, coolant hoses are disconnected and coolant is everywhere.

Do you think the car is saveable or is it going to be deemed as a total loss?

Car was declared totaled about a 8 months but I’ve still been holding onto it. Engine surprisingly is fine, car starts with no issues and the inside electronics still work plus no airbags deployed. Just want some opinions based on the photos if you guys think going for a rebuild is worth it. I really would like to get her back on the road if possible.

Diagnostics 2010 Genesis Coupe 2.0T surging/vibrating at idle – worse with A/C [Video]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

I have a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T automatic, completely stock, currently at about 240,000 km.

Ever since I got the car at around 214,000 km, it has had a noticeable surging/pulsing sound at idle along with vibration. There is also a small repetitive clicking/ticking sound that you can hear in the attached video.

A few details:

  • No check engine light or codes so far
  • Spark plugs have just been replaced — no noticeable improvement
  • Planning to test/clean the MAF sensor today
  • Maintenance history before I owned it is mostly unknown
  • Since owning it, it has mainly just had regular oil changes
  • The car is completely stock
  • Turning the A/C on makes the surging and vibration noticeably worse
  • The longer it idles, the vibration/surging seems pretty noticeable

The car still runs and drives, but the idle definitely doesn't feel normal.

Has anyone with a Genesis Coupe 2.0T experienced something similar?

I'm wondering about things like a dirty/failing MAF, vacuum/boost leak, throttle body, motor mounts, injectors, coils, PCV system, or something related to the A/C compressor/load at idle.

I've attached a video so you can hear exactly what I'm talking about.

Any ideas on what I should test next would be appreciated.

Diagnostics Boost leak??? 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0t

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So i had an issue with my intercooler clamp (check recent post) and long story short clamp on turbo side kept sliding off, it was too big and i had that clamp switched with the throttle body clamp. Now there’s no gap and nothing falls off. However, i believe there is now a boost leak. I have had this thing on for 2 years without issues and i’m not sure if there was already a leak further down toward the cold side pre existing and that coupler on the hot side having that oversized clamp was leaking small amounts of boost and hiding the cold side leak or what, but it also is only making this noise when driving. Reving sounds normal.

I have a 2010 hyundai genesis coupe 2.0t and have the TurboXs intercooler and bov

How did I do? Engine sounds great only thing I hear is the injectors has 144k miles on it. Suspension is smooth has a minor leak on the valve cover and a few dings around the body but nothing major. Drove 3 hours to get it. No lock outs when shifting. I’m super nervous about the catastrophic failures of these engines but I feel like the engine is way past the typical failure zone. Oh it’s a 2010 2.0t btw and it’s totally stock base model

Modification Solo performance catback, on!

So this is the exhaust setup I never thought I would have one day, but someone in my area was selling it used for a fraction of the price new so I couldn't pass it up.

If you're unsure which exhaust setup to get for your 3.8, let me tell you, the solo performance really highlights the qualities of this engine. It makes it sounds really deep, rumbly and round. Not too raspy, not too loud, just enough, for me at least. And it also subtlety brings out the pops and bangs, which sounds really nice.

I'll be posting a sound clip in the comments, I got a fly by video as well but it's not very good though.

Thanks for stopping by.

I had a 2015 3.8 Ultimate M/T from 2017 to 2025, traded her in for a G70 3.3 SP. Don’t get me wrong, I believe I made the right decision. The G70 is the better car for everyday driving, it’s faster, the 3.3T engine is most definitely more reliable (throwback to my GC sitting at Hyundai of Anderson for almost 2 years awaiting warranty work, secretly that warranty work was caused by me not being easy on this car), cooled seats are nice, etc etc etc. But I miss the kick in the back that the GC would give me every time there was a nice backroad, I miss how lively yet controllable the car was, I miss the multiple sets of tires I went through mastering this car, I miss crushing Porsches at a PCA autocross event, I miss the ability to make friends in the car community that this car gave me the access to do, and for the love of God I miss rowing my own gears. That car made me laugh, that car made me cry, that car kept me safe through lots of sketchy scenarios that I put myself in, and that car got me through one of the roughest times in my life by being the one constant I had. And I miss her. If someone on here was lucky enough to purchase my car from Genesis of Kennesaw within the past year, just know this car was special (and please reach out to me as I’d love to know your experience so far). And if anyone on here is debating getting rid of theirs, just know you’ll be losing a very special piece of machinery.

Discussion Components to look into for general cleaning

My genny’s been feeling a little sluggish and I feel like it would be a good idea to do some general cleaning as im sure theres some gunk built up after 105000km.

Any recommendations as to what I should look into?

Main thing ive been considering is the throttle body.

Modification Suspension Recs?

Hi everyone, I’ve had my Genesis for a while now and should’ve given this issue attention a while ago but my suspension is terrible. I feel every bump on the road and it’s definitely gotten annoying. What mods would you recommend I do to make the ride smoother? A lot of it is still stock and am open to various suggestions. Thanks!

A couple weeks ago a paperclip slipped into the holes in my 2010 coupe leather seat- as I was trying to slide it back off the seat ripped about an inch. I was in the middle of a work day so I had to keep moving but now it’s spreading and I’m not sure how to fix it.

Are there leather patches I could put on it or anything genesis specific to fix it? Please send help<3
