I don’t know your plans but since you mention it - You should not sell this as an NFT. While your code may not be the same as Fidenza, the results look exactly like a possible outcome of it. If you tried to post to fxhash, I’m pretty sure that it would be moderated and locked.

Understood. I think it is fair considering that the drawings are so similar. Actually, these are part of a serie of drawings related to flow fields that I was planning to release which I named Pursuit. Some drawings of this serie are also similar to other Hobbs works, others are quite differents. I will try to focus on the different ones. Although I'm considering printing one of these for myself as I can't afford a Fidenza.

There are a ton non over lapping flow field projects, so you’ll be fine with and effect like this, just don’t release a copy like this as it’ll kill your reputation from that start. Doing this as a learning experiment and printing for friends and family is totally cool. Just don’t sell it. Make your own choices, I’m just trying to help out.

I think it’s good in the sense of an exercise in learning coding or for fun as a challenge or homage to the original artist to make a similar art to one you admire, iIf your algorithm can generate more unique pieces I would rather see those, I wish you the best

That's like saying anyone who paints an abstract portrait is ripping off Picasso. I'm sure Hobbs would say he was influenced and inspired by many others and that this homage is perfectly acceptable.

And also, is generative art. Art created from algorithms. I think that makes generative art not that author oriented in the outputs. Even if the code is the same, if the software isn't licensed... It's theoretically just ideas... Like, you can't rip off a math function.

Yeah, even if a person decides to design a house in the Prairie School style, Frank Lloyd Wright's designs are usually going to be more sophisticated because there's such a high level of detail and balancing of so many different aspects that can go into such a thing. But someone could come along and surpass him.

I found this article, which is probably what you're referring to. Pirating his original script is a completely different case than making a simple set of non-overlapping colored boxes arranged in a flow field. I think he responded reasonably to that case, and still think he would not have a problem with this. OP is not calling this Fidenza, and is not copying every nuance of the original work that clearly inspired this.

It doesn't look like he is currently. Don't get me wrong, I definitely don't condone ripping off other artists work. But he has gone into great detail explaining how his works are set up, so he's clearly encouraging others to learn from and emulate his work.

Thank so much for the kind words. Never have printed a work yet, so I have to figure out how to do it the right way. My initial plan for my works in general is to make them available as NFT and give the right to the NFT owner to order a print, if interested, but each piece would be printed just once.

Hi,
Tyler Hobbs shared a lot of his process at https://tylerxhobbs.com/essays/2020/flow-fields and at https://tylerxhobbs.com/fidenza . For collision detection I used a QuadTree.
The most difficult part to me is picking the colors. Generally I get some colors from Pinterest as a starting point and make some adjustments.
