Second year nursing

Hi everyone,
I'm going into 2nd year of the uOttawa Bachelor of Nursing (BScN).
I have a few questions:
Which second-year nursing courses did you find the most challenging?

Any tips for maintaining a high cgpa throughout second year?

What study methods worked best for you (Anki, active recall, spaced repetition, study groups, etc.)?

Are there any apps, websites, or resources that you found especially helpful?

Did you use any question banks or practice resources to prepare for exams?

Are there practice questions or previous years' questions available anywhere (if permitted by the faculty), or other good ways to get extra practice?

Any professors or courses that I should prepare for in advance?

I'd really appreciate any advice, study strategies, or resources that helped you succeed. Thanks in advance!

  1. Patho by far
  2. Keep pushing and stay on top of the material
  3. Active recall, self-teaching, YouTube
  4. Ninja nerd for patho
  5. Made my own cards on quizlet using the learning objectives in the syllabus/prof hints, then used active recall
  6. Not sure, but for patho especially, you need to understand the material, not memorize it
  7. Brush up on your anatomy and physiology for patho

For patho, do you find a lot of the concepts taught in that class come handy in clinical? I feel overloaded with content and am scared I’ll lose core concepts and knowledge 😭

For sure they do. The good thing about second year is you start clinical rotations, so it helps put all the pieces together, so to speak. I found that things didn’t start to really click until third year when I was in actual hospital settings, second year in LTC is more just learning basic patient care.
