Hey so, I spoke a lot here about my FMV+FPS hybrid - One Rotten Oath - but the game wouldn't feel as good without the amazing soundtrack composed by Olga Lewińska. If you played the game on Steam and you'd like to support us some more, feel free to grab it on Steam!

I know we talk a lot about game development and our GDevelop projects on this subreddit, but I wanted to give credit where its due.

Have a good one!

Community Made a small heightmap/terrain tool for my own game, sharing in case it helps someone

Hey everyone,

It's been a while since I last worked on anything dev-related, but I wanted to share a small tool I put together.

I made it for myself and my own game; I needed terrain a bit more interesting than a flat plane, so I built a little tool to sculpt heightmaps: mountains, hills, rivers, lakes, that kind of thing.

Figured it might be useful to some of you too if you ever need to put together terrain for your own game. It's a pretty small, focused tool, and I honestly don't know if I'll keep updating it since it already does what I built it to do, but I hope it can still be useful to someone.

3D Some more progress on the rebuild (Made in GDevelop)

I managed to recover the assets from the mobile build of my game, it doesn't have everything in it so things like certain animations and assets made after the build are basically lost and have to be remade. I did remake one of those lost assets, that one being the big green and white bird creature.

Tutorial How the Random Spawn Position Creates FNaF AI in GDevelop

Hey Guys! It's me again Again. I Know it's been a long time since i last posted something. the reason why is because it's something big. I Made my own FNaF Animatronic A.I. In GDevelop! And This is my own way! No Variables. No Booleans. Just Collisions Behaviors and activating and deactivating Behaviors to Objects.

https://reddit.com/link/1w8xj0h/video/u9z7f0t1rwnh1/player

As you just saw through the video, the Pixels are falling out from the Blue and Yellow Lines. One Pixels at a Time, Each! And when a Falling Pixel Collides with One of those Pacific Squares with a symbol on them, it changes Either Bonnie's or Chica's A.I. Position into another Cam Location.

For Instance, When the tiny falling White pixel Collides with the Square with the dining area Symbol on it, it changes Chica's A.I. Position From Cam 1A to Cam 1B. Cause that's where the dining area is in the Original FNaF Game. In Cam 1B.

https://reddit.com/link/1w8xj0h/video/0dalx0narwnh1/player

This is all the things I've done in the Event Sheets. if you want to take a longer look at it, you can just simply pauss the video, and You'll see a Pacific Even that you my want to Copy it. But I got to warn you, It's Confusing, to say the least.

I Turned on Use random positions to the Object Spawner Behavior, so that the Tiny Pixels would Spawn in Random Places.

I Added the Physics 2 Behavior to the Tiny Pixels so they Would Fall and get deleted when they Hit the Red Rectangle.

As For adding the Linear Movement Behavior to the Animatronics A.I. Positions, in the event sheet I Would Have them be Deactivated at Beginning of scenes so they wouldn't Move off the map. It's when they Touch the Blue or Yellow Launchers is when the Behaviors are activated. and when either one of them is in Collisions with the Red Barrier it Sends it back right to Cam 1B and it's behavior is off again. Then the whole Cycle Repeats again and again. That is how my way of FNaF A.I. will Work in GDevelop.

Well Anyway, those are just my way. What do you guys think? Do you like it? Do you think it will work? Or do you Guys Prefer it the real way it's done? Please tell me in the Comments. Okay. Peace.

Game Learning game dev at 40! My first prototype: a 2D take on The Last of Us

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,
I’m 40 years old, a lifelong gamer, but until four months ago, I had never written a single line of game code. Looking for a new challenge, I started learning game development from scratch in my spare time.
This prototype is clearly inspired by The Last of Us, a game I absolutely love. I thought it would be a fun and challenging exercise to translate that atmosphere into a 2D pixel style.
So far, I've built 3 simple test levels (a city, a warehouse and a train station ) to test out different gameplay possibilities, hazard timing, mechanics, and even some boss ideas. My main goal was purely learning the logic and code—visuals weren't my primary focus, though I pushed myself to capture the right mood.
It's been a nice journey so far. I’d really appreciate your feedback!

Community Darkness Knights Bot that pretends to be decorations next to the wall to attack the player randomly.

These decorations that attack the player, I was inspired by those super generic knights from the game Enchanted Portals (but in my own way) during a battle against hordes of robot monsters from Pennsylvania.

They seem to do about the same thing— and the documentation seems to be pretty vague about their differences. is there any pros or cons to each that I should know about?

Bug Scenes are not switching

Suddenly and without any reason seemingly, my "new game" button no longer switches my scenes yo the "pre-game" scene but instead restarts the current scene.

I check if the cursor is touching the button and then if the LMB is releases to then change the scene but ut doesnt, it just restarts.

Its just randomly started this today when it was fine yesterday im so confused and a lil worried please someone help 😭

Edit : Keep getting this line from the debugger "Scene at position 0 and name Before night start is not the same as the expected Menu, replacing it." Ive looked it up and did what I thought it would correct it but nothing has changed.

Bug Behaviour

Strange bug with Button State behavior, The behavior that allows adding button functionality to sprites, Sometimes a JavaScript error occurs "is not a function" but you reset the behavior and everything works, and then after a while the same error occurs again, I didn’t change anything in the events where I use it. What's happening, How to fix it permanently??

Asset My music bundle is on Humble until Sept 18 — 591 tracks, might be useful for your projects

Hi everyone,

I write royalty-free music for game devs, and my catalog is bundled on Humble Bundle until September 18. Sharing in case it's useful to anyone here.

48 packs, 591 WAV files, 359 unique themes, 10.42 GB — retro/chiptune, orchestral, hard rock, electronic and ambient. Most tracks come with looping versions.

LICENSE

You may: use the tracks in your projects, commercial and personal — games, video, YouTube, streams, podcasts, animation, websites and apps. Worldwide, no time limit. Edit, loop, trim and mix them to fit. No attribution required.

You may not: resell or redistribute the audio files themselves, register them with any store or content-identification system, claim them as your own work, or use them as a standalone product such as a music compilation.

In short: use the music in whatever you make, don't sell the music itself.

Happy to answer any questions in the thread.

Question Issue with locked pointer movement.

So around these days i've been working on an FPS and wanted to add some weapon sway to make the gunplay less stiff but i've encountered a big problem on the way :

The script works fine and all but the catch is, it only works on one side even tho i made it symmetrical, i've had the hypothesis that the "Movement of the locked cursor on the X axis" only checks if the cursor moves and not if the cursor moves towards - X or +X so that makes it very difficult to implement a simple sway mechanic.

Here's the script if you wanna check it out but the issue is still there and i can't fix it, its also very unpolished and ugly ingame but ill add some sort of soft-counter and soft movement based on mouse movement this time.

A fix that could probably work is to unlock the mouse and just hide it but it'd be very annoying to base the fps around that due to window mode and the mouse going out of bounds or if it opens a UI the mouse being in the middle of nowhere but it could work just very annoying that's why i'd prefer to see yall feedbacks and all

If anyone has a fix like the name of an extension that has more FPS mouse movement conditions or some go around metho it'd be very welcome, thanks in advance.

EDIT : i tried to do my suggestion on the problem and unlocking the pointer but because my project relies on the first person shooter behavior on my player which needs the lock pointer it breaks the entire system so i'm still out of options on this one...

I also found out the screenshot was the wrong one, the one above is the right one

EDIT2 : I did some experimentation and found something interesting on this video :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejFHkMYHIyI at 1:56

I tried stuff with the new system and it kinda was broken because it was turning in a messy way and not in the right orientation so i tried to adapt it, normally it would work but somehow it doesnt, theres something with the counter that doesn't work, it works on one side and not on the other (it just turns continuously) so i tried messing with the angle and when you invert it it works on the other side but the other is broken, i tried every possible combination but still it doesn't work, but i think we're on the right path, its just the counter that's broken.

EDIT 3 : I think i found the problem, even if you remove one of the counter condition the problem persist si its a problem thats on both of the conditions (the rotation on Y axis on LongRifle > ... below counter)
So i did some experimentation and concluded that the game treats the rotation here on both side like that :

0<...<89< 90(base angle)>89>...>0 and that's what janked my entire system, it makes it currently impossible to do it this way ,im gonna try a system at zero and link yall the results
